Hello Ernie I just sent you an e-mail. You did a good thing here! It is so appreciated. Get well. -
airbrush questions
Jon Cole replied to hellonwheelz3's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
What Donn said! As for air compressors, I use a Craftsman 4 HP verticle tank. Great for airbrushing in the basement, then I can haul it outside to run my air tools. I bought a water trap, and the pressure regulator. It beats trying to use an airbrush @ 125 psi -
It cannot be emphasized enough, the ALPS printers are no longer in production! What is available (afaik) is refurbished units. Then you need to consider the print ribbons. Yes, ribbons. They apparently do not use ink. Plus, replacing a ribbon is not quite as easy as running down to your local Staples. I believe they are purchased overseas. I don't own an ALPS, so others can supply more details.

Buy a role of 1/8" line tape at an auto parts store, run a line of it around the middle of all four roof pillars. Cut along the top edge with a hobby saw, then along the bottom edge. Glue top to bottom, grease pan, bake @ 350 degrees for 2 hou... No, don't grease pan or bake. But the rest works.

Why practice on scraps? As long as you are learning to mix paint, work the airbrush, and clean it after, why not spray something useful? That's why God invented model kit engine blocks!

A tribute I built long ago
Jon Cole replied to Jon Cole's topic in WIP: Stock Cars (NASCAR, Super Stock, Late Model, etc.)
Thanks for the good words guys! -
I was just getting into NASCAR when Alan Kulwicki died just outside of Bristol, Tennesse. I love it when an underdog like Alan can beat the odds, and win a championship like he did. Later, I attended my first NASCAR race here @ NHIS. I don't recall how Davey Allison did in that race, but I will never forget hearing less than 24 hours later that he was killed in a helicopter crash. I knew right then that I wanted to build this. I built the cars curbside. The display is plastic sheet, and the floor is contact paper. I did the sketch with colored pencils. Not having a computer at the time, I had someone do the drivers quotes for me.

rommels rod
Jon Cole replied to disabled modeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
He can call Revell for replacement decals, IIRC. The contact info should be on the box or instructions. Are the flags part of the decal sheet? If you have a printer, you could get the image off the internet, and print it on paper, or even a return address label, and fold it around a metal rod. -
This is a tough one. I voted "real", but I think the driveway has been manipulated. It's like a message board moderator with art and photoshop experience found the perfect photo!

That is just... sick! I mean, other-worldly SICK! Are you sure that's not a 1:1 build? Because it is THAT good!

Marcos, all really great builds! My fav would have to be the Starliner. I deleted my earlier post here. I thought we were all posting our threads here, but I think I may have highjacked your thread by mistake. Sorry.

Posting pics of non-vehicle models
Jon Cole replied to JayC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
On the debate to let non-automotive model subjects show here, Three words… “Pay-Per-View†On a more serious note, I’m concerned about how many forums here we already have. There seems to be a desire to keep adding to the number, which is already spread out over 24 forums. Not every title can appear at the top, so the further down the page a forum appears, the less notice and activity it seems to get. Before we start adding forums, let’s think about consolidating some. I have read some good ideas here for consolidating, and I hope it gets further consideration. Just my good ol’ 2¢ worth, minus inflation. -
Jeepster25 aka Dan Rosen, awesome trader! The wheels arrived late last week. Now I just need to buy a Wagoneer from RMR, and I can build a model of my Grand Wagoneer!

That's soo dam# cool! Some colors catch your eye... this one grabs 'em and spins them in the sockets! Two thumbs up!

"Since we're no longer on topic anyhoo... did you know that Marilyn Manson once refered to the internet as the "CB radio of the 21st Century"? I'm not sure if he meant that in a good or bad way..." I think I know. If it's kewl (Opps! I mean "cool"... not) with you, that quote will be my new sig line!

From About.com: Was Mr. Rogers a Marine Sniper / Navy Seal? http://urbanlegends.about.com/od/fredrogers/a/mr_rogers.htm Reads in part: "Unless all the biographical information that exists about him is wrong, Fred McFeely Rogers never served in the military in any capacity, let alone as a Marine sniper (or Navy Seal, as another version of this apocryphal story claims). Some cynical folks may be loathe to believe that the gentle, soft-spoken host of "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood" was exactly what he seemed, but he was."

As well as Mark Gustavson!

Bill, Not sure if I understand. When I hit the "return" arrow after I view a photo on Fotki, it takes me back to the page the photo is on. My pages ar set to show a maximum of 48 photos per page, and I see the thumbnail for that photo without touching the mouse.

Beautiful Mach 1, Jeff! Your "signature" opening panels are perfect. Looking forward to seeing that at the NNL East. You are going, I hope?!

"That other so called "model forum" doesn't even allow an avatar. They don't even allow the Rebel flag to be posted on the General Lee. Harry could just as easily said no pics in signatures period but he didn't." Wow. That is absurd! I never been to that forum. I didn't know the Taliban had a model car web site
