  1. I have a 115 page Fotki album: "1:1 MOPAR- '65 Coronet" http://public.fotki.com/JCole/11_mopar-1/-...#33;!-----/
  2. Apparently I misunderstood the original question. I thought you were asking for op's on ALMS vs. other forms of racing. As for the race everyone is talking about, when was this ALMS race on TV? And how long was the race? I ask because they seem to trim (read "edit") the televised broadcast down, and that really is annoying.
  3. Steve- There is some confusion on what is and is not in each box. Some say eight lightbars on the "White Car" (only?) Or are all eight in each kit? And if so, why buy the white car if the only diff is no decals? I'm thinking "White car- eight light bars; no decals", all others, one light bar, decals for one agency.
  4. FYI, there is much complaining from many builders about the poor quality of BLACK BMF. It has very little "stick". The regular Chrome BMF seems to be OK, as far as the adhesive issue is concerned. The best solution? Spray a sheet of Chrome BMF with your favorite black spray! I did this years ago to a half sheet (used a piece of paper to cover the other half). It still works for me. I did use a fine steel wool on the BMF before spraying.
  5. Actually, I'm so fed up with "NAPCAR" *>YAWN!< that any other series would look better! While I admit I am no textbook of different racing series across the world, I am all for ANYTHING that would offer us road (NOT just oval!) racing using vehicles that have sheetmetal from ACTUAL automobiles! Maybe a Euro type SUPERCAR series, ALMS, anything other than the Series That Fails To Evolve! If I had a quarter for every negative NASCAR... um, I mean "NAPCAR" comment I have heard, or read, I would be rich!
  6. It don't matter to me. All I would suggest, is that if a new page is added, then PLEASE eliminate another one. Stuff is so spread out all over the place (nothing wrong with that in theory) but there seems to be one or more sections that could be folded into a "General Topics" catagory, due to lack of posts and overall activity. Just my 2¢, minus inflation, of course.
  7. The Toledo NNL is an event that I hope to attend some year. This year, or Classic Plastic Club in New England had our contest on the same day as the Toledo NNL. For 2010, we are having it in September, as I know Del Paone and others in our club really want to attend Toledo. Thank you all who posted links and pics from the NNL! It's the next best thing to being there!
  8. Nice LRW Charles! How 'bout that?! TWO "Little Red Wagon" builds displayed here almost at the same time. I think I want to start mine this weekend!
  9. The 2009 iHobby Expo is in two weeks. Is there anyone here that can report on any new announcements pertaining to our hobby? I’m not even sure if there is anything there to report on. I can, however, remember not too long ago when the two big annual toy shows, iHobby (formerly RCHTA), and the New York Toy Show in February, were big deals for our hobby. The model kit manufacturers would often make announcements of new kits at these shows. Will they be making any new announcements? The link I found for iHobby Expo is: http://www.ihobbyexpo.com/home.html iHobby Expo Oct. 22 to 25, 2009 Rosemont, Ill.
  10. What's wrong with redundancy? What's wrong with redundancy? You should post it here too! (TIP- it's FREE!)
  11. CURT! That's fantastic! That looks great! I have always wanted to build that. Don't know if I will. I like the way you went about it with the aftermarket parts. Maybe I'll start by finding those parts. Support the hobby- put it on a contest table!
  12. The car that influenced me toward the post-teen years, when I tried again at model building, had to be my dad’s Corvairs. His first ‘vair was a 1960 more-door with that “flying buttress†roof. I have a vague memory of being small enough to stand up, holding on to the front seat so I could watch dad drive and see where we were going! I also recall that car stranding our family in a supermarket parking lot with mechanical issues. Second ‘vair was a ’63 Monza Convertible. Kool memories (literally) of dad and I taking home a Christmas tree in the back seat with the top down. After that, dad switched to a ’63 Impala, but I think he always had a soft spot for the Corvair. I eventually adopted dad’s “sicknessâ€, and have owned a 1965 Monza more-door with the so-so 110 HP, a ’61 parts car that I foolishly thought I could fix up, a 1963 Spyder that just had a mechanical rebuild, and finally again a ’63 Greenbrier Van that once again, I foolishly thought I could fix up. In the late eighties, I started hunting for a model of my 1965 Monza. That’s how I found out about the “hobbyâ€, Scale Auto Enthusiast, pricey old kits, and… the rest is history.
  13. That is a big time problem when I make something from scratch! Of course it's not a real issue for me, as I am not a "full detail guy"!
  14. First, welcome to our zoo! For filler (many refer to it as putty), you could start out with Squadron green, or white putty. This is sold at any good hobby shop. I believe it is lacquer base. There is nothing to mix, but you do need to work quick, as it will "skin" in 5 to 10 seconds. It cannot be any thicker than maybe 1/32" thick, some may say even thinner. It cures by air-drying. If you think you may need to do filling time and again, go with a two-part catalyzed putty. This would be found in an automotive parts store in the auto-body section. It's far more expensive too. The big benefit of two-part putty is, unlike the lacquer based stuff, the two-part dries by chemical reaction. In ten minutes after application, it's cured and ready for sanding. The filler is mixed in equal parts with the hardener. That DOESN'T mean if you scoop out a one-inch lump of filler, go and squeeze a one-inch lump of hardener! No! You use equal parts, relative to the container size! So if you were to mix, say, 1/20th of the container of filler, you squeeze out 1/20th of the tube of hardener. And you should have about a 4-minute working time.
  15. One thing you may want to keep in mind as you tape those valuable decals to the window glass... Condensation! Condensation on the window glass can destroy your decals! I have never tried the window sunlight trick before, but maybe sealing them in a plastic "Zip-Loc" bag may protect them?
  16. Good timing! I just answered this Q for someone! Check this out for a diagramed how-to! http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=23769
  17. Looks "Wickid!" Glad I could help with the pics.
  18. Actually, the reason the top-tier builders has been somewhat non-existant this summer, is they have been "cocooning" for most of the summer. Now with fall approaching, they are starting to "come out of their shells" so to speak. I think we will be hearing more from them soon.
  19. Well someone apparently wants to save at least one Pontiac line alive! It won't be under the Pontiac name however. It seems that DeLorean Motor Company is currently a brand without a new car. The Wilmington, Delaware Solstice plant is a factory without a car to build. So DMC is showing interest in building the Solstice with a "few" tweaks. Wonder what the seats will be stuffed with? Sorry, JZD!
  20. Brian, I'll try. But first, I want to suggest that on a '57 Chevy, it would be prototypical to 'tub' the rear, rather than do flares. Maybe you can see something in these pics I took of a Mustang TransAm that needs to be finished. This design wheel flare will need filler to complete the effect. I used aluminum printing plate, and solder glued to the edge to form the lip. I did these on cardboard, or "boxboard" before cutting metal.
  21. NOW... go back to this hobby board, and open up a new post or reply. Then... I hope that helps. MAKE SURE there are NO blank spots! To see if it works BEFORE you post, use the PREVIEW button!
  22. TerrY- What an amazing little car the "first" Porsche is! A few more pics of your build would be nice!
  23. Thanks for the pics, Tom! Anyone have any info on what vehicle this is? Was? It sure is different!
  24. Especially animation depicting blood and violence. We get enough of that garbage on the boob tube (family values!) I couldn't care less which fast-food clown it is, we don't need to see graphic images of blood splatters etc. Someone else mentioned they thought it was done to seek attention... I agree wholehartedly.
  25. Thanks for the kind words! Wish I could take better quality photos at contests! At this show, I set the white balance to "indoor". I'm not sure it mattered. I have an "antique" Sony Mavica 200. Also noticed some focus issues. Kinda like me in real life! If I use a flash, even set at low, the photo looks swamped with light. These pics have no flash. I wish I could have a portable (attached to camera) source of diffused light, just enough to lighten up my pics. I'm no "tech" type, and photography prooves it!
