  1. Well I know next to squat about late twenties- early thirtees cars, but I would guess it is part of the "Ford" family, so I'm thinking maybe a Mercury, or a Lincoln?
  2. Not only did you do a great job, but you also have something so... unique! A Dodge Diplomat die-cast isn't something that is easy to find. Way cool. Hope you put that on a table at your next contest or show you attend.
  3. You do have a knack for weathering, Cranky! May I suggest some weathering for the grill as well? Maybe the headlite bezels too? It's gonna look like a rolling advertisement for a Tetanus shot!
  4. This just in! Literally... my "dealer" just dropped off a bag with the Rommel's Rod, and the '62 Buick. Wife popped a head gasket... "WHAT?! MORE MODELS?!" I wonder if it was a multiple choice question?
  5. Dang speed bumps! I used to go over speed bumps @ full speed! "No speed bump is going to stop my Jeep!" Then one day while driving my boss's minivan, I forgot to turn off my attitude!! Hit the Mother Of All Speed Bumps. Ooops! Cracked windshield! "Don't know how that happened."
  6. It's hard to tell in that pic, as it is parked under an overpass. The top is close to a Champaign Gold, with some light tan mixed in. I need to find some better pics. Here is a pic of the Ford Crown Vic using Testors enamels, British Racing Green, and Champaign Gold. The gold is a bit too intense.
  7. Kato's in trouble! During the filming of the movie based on the old TV show "The Green Hornet", Kato crashed the GH's '66 Imperial... and it wasn't in the script! Before: After: Note the flame visible under the car
  8. Billy- You may want to reconsider your plan. Raw plastic without pigment over it looks like plastic! Even with just clear paint. Also, the plastic is not 100% opaque, it does have some translucence. I always paint the inside of any car model body I build flat black. I feel it gives the model a more "finished" look. I guarantee the exterior will look dark where the inside has parts attached, or paint. Avoid problems now, add paint. Furthermore, what type of clear paint are you using? Remember, most white paints do not need a clear coat. If you spray enamel, you must go with enamel clear, which I can almost guarantee it will eventually turn yellow. Lacquer spray is more forgiving, but NEVER use lacquer over enamel! I do not know if the Porsche Martini teams used vinyl graphics (many did), or painted them on. Vinyl graphis are rarely, if ever clearcoated. In fact, I suspect that clear paint would eventually flake off a vinyl graphic in the 1:1 world. Tamiya makes some awesome white sprays, they flow and cover well.
  9. Steve! I can't wait to see these when they're done! BTW, here in my hometown, the local Chrysler dealership is the state drop-off point for the NH State Police order... funny, as the dealer currently has only five (NEW) Jeeps, a PT Cruiser, a few pickups... and 110 new 2010 Dodge Charger 5.7L Charger Police Package cars! Some already here, some on their way. There seems to be about ten cars on the lot at any given time. All the cars coming in are all black. So unless the state is planning a different color scheme, it looks like us taxpayers are going to shell out for each one to have a complete repaint. You would think on a special fleet purchase, one of the two colors could have been sprayed at the factory. Anyhow, let me offer my Fotki Album "DODGE CHARGER- EMERGENCY VEHICLES" for reference for anyone who may need it... now if I could only have my camera handy when the next load arrives! http://public.fotki.com/JCole/emer-dodge-charger-/ Oh, BTW, what is your most recent estimate for the kits to land in the hobby shops?
  10. I just did a quick Google search on Porsche 964. You can check it out: B)http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_964 With all the numeric designations that Porsche (amongst others) used for model ID's, it's enough for another migrane!
  11. I am, and probably always will be stunned by the events of that horrible day. No, I won't ever forget. In the aftermath, I had collected many photos on-line, and saved them to my Fotki. To this day, I cannot look at them. I grieve for those who died. I grieve for those who lost a loved one. I grieve for the wounded. For those who suffer to this day, the widows, the widowers, the EMT/Rescue and law enforcement, and military. May they find some peace in our rememberance.
  12. I used solvaset, works great. Thanks for the compliments.
  13. "So who says the world will end in 2012???" THE BEATLES! Just play their "Abby Road" album backward! No? OK, to find out what REALLY happens in 2012.... ...ask me on New Year's Day, 2013. IF I'm still alive. If not, it didn't go so well. On a related note... what does all this have to do with the price of BS in China???
  14. My first car... 1963 Chevy Nova with the straight six. Dad & I fixed it up, paid a guy $300. to paint it. I found out weeks later that "Nitro-Stan" putty wasn't the same thing as body filler! I remember the cracks from shrinkage of the lacquer putty on top of the fenders. Nice car. The big tires on the back were borrowed from a friend.
  15. BEAUTIFUL work! Check out his web site, it appears to be loaded with gems like this!
  16. Hmmm... no update from Bill in over 3 months. I hope this one hasn't found it's way to 'model cars- the dead zone' It's too cool to give up on! Meantime if ya need reference pics, I have some. Go to: http://public.fotki.com/JCole/cars--british/jaguar-/ Jump to page 4 for some XJ TWR pics. Hope this helps.
  17. OMG! That in my driveway would be enough to make me wake up every morning with a smile! I love the "choose your hides" option! Help me out here- I know it's older than a deuce. What year is it?
  18. My ol' girl passed away from New England Cancer, rotted out the rocker panels, and all four torsion bars need replacement, and front axle joints too. I hate to see it go. I had her for over ten years. Friday, we took delivery on a 2004 Passat W8 4motion. Man, she's sweet! I didn't even know Volkswagen made a V8!
  19. Well Dave, what it's really called, cannot be posted here! Ha. Ha. But seriously, it's all good. I don't have your answer, I guess it's the automotive version of modern art.
  20. How Geezerman got a squirrel skull... This is going to be one "out there" rod! Kind of "out of the box"... rolled off the table... on to the floor... out the door.... into the yard... BTW, keep an eye out for it's relatives seeking vengance!
  21. Rob- You can't go wrong with a short block Chevy.... What? Ohh, sorry. Wrong engine.
  22. I am sure Tamiya Tape works, but it's not available to everyone. What I suggest is your local auto parts store. Not some national chain (PepBoys, Auto Zone, etc.) but the real deal type store that sells to auto body shops. Buy some 3M striping tape. I believe they sell it as narrow as 1/8" width. If they tell you that you need to buy a whole package of it, tell them to get real; time to find another store. A reputable jobber will sell by the single roll. Also beware of lesser quality brands. For example, I have seen masking tapes not made by 3M that are total junk; either won't stick, or sticks so strong it cannot be removed easily. I just say that for an example, do not use masking tape for an edge.
  23. Here is some pics of work I am doing to Testors late-model Charger R/T. First, those big clunky hinges had to go! A grind head in my moto tool did the job. Yeah, it's a pre-paint metal body, but the rest of the kit is just like a regular plastic kit. No hinges, so I filled in the slots in the firewall... Here is the chassis. I did a lot of research on this, everywhere there is masking tape, is black on the real car. I misted a coat of Sub-Lime around the edges as minimally as I could... Here is the 5.7L Hemi. I added a the oil dipstick, and made the "HEMI" graphics for the engine cover. Next, the interior. Thanks for looking.
  24. "I agree with Tommy and his bug." Maybe we should get Tommy a can of Raid?!
  25. My home-made non-ALPS decals are usually for dark graphics on light background, with the exception of these decals I made for a friend. The decal is square, sized to the edges of the door. I made several different ones, each with a slightly different shade of blue for the door area. I told Chris to use the one that looks best. This worked only because the blue was solid, not metallic.
