Suicide or Normal Door Hinges?
Jon Cole replied to TwistedFabrication's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Visible realistic appearing hinges, or can you settle for a way to keep the hood attached to the body, yet functional? Most cars hoods form a point at each rear corner, near the A pillars. Using a fine aluminum wire, glue a short length under the hood at each corner, running length-wise. Have it stick out beyond each corner. Use super glue, or epoxy to attach each wire. Also consider scribing a trough for the wire. Drill slightly oversized holes at the top of the firewall, and feed each glued hood wire through the holes. Bend the wire so the hood stays put. I hope I explained that well. -

I know this is a RC
Jon Cole replied to Joe Handley's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
What a cool concept! 1/24 rock crawlers! The bodies aren't very exciting, but I guess that chassis would make a good home for the Tamiya Grand Cherokee that I have stashed away. Only R/C I have ever owned was a "department store" Porsche GT1, that I bought at a yard sale. It steered terribly... all it was cabable of was a hard left, or hard right. Is that what to expect on a truck like this? -
WoW! That's just too kool! That's going to be a fine addition to those other great kustoms you make!

One part UGLY... One part REAL. I say it be REAL ugly!

No politics or religion.. shouldn't need a vote IMHO, as that is common sense. As for any other topics, based on what I have seen so far, the solution is simple... No one is forcing anyone to open any threads here. In other words, you can "vote" every time you check the board. And I like this board just the way it is... with maybe the exception of scanning about 24 forums to see everything. But I can live with that.

I like this! It is different! And different is good!

whats the deal
Jon Cole replied to buba39's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Um, we here (at least speaking for myself) like to go by actual name. That is why it is an actual rule of this board. It eases communication. I’m sure your truck models are fine. A few things to keep in mind here, this board is a large community, a community of people who are busy, and do not always have time to praise each build. It’s not going to happen. Another issue with this place, is there is (IIRC) 24 forums here. That means there are 24 areas all competing for the viewers limited time. Not all of us have time to check out all 24 sections. The further down the page one has to go, the less likely most will travel, with the possible exception of the most dedicated viewers. Perhaps if “Trucks†forum was moved up higher? -

What is with the 50s?
Jon Cole replied to 50smania's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As model builders, we are often asked to "give back to the hobby" (either literally, or implied) Perhaps someone with the right resourses could ask Carol & Don, (amongst others) if they could volunteer to do some photography and web uploading for them? Another angle on this idea would be when we attend a show where the vendors are set up, take some pics! I know some of us have done this already. I have taken photos of Modelhaus' tire selection, but the photos look bad. Fortunately, someone else had good quality pics (the item #'s should be visible) When I get my computer back, I can post the pics if anyone is interested. Of course, this thread is about resin bodies and whole kits. As Bob has stated, these resin casters are just too small time to devote any time & energy to this. I say we modelers can fill the gap here. The problem here (isn't there always?) is finding a way to make these photos available to everyone when they need them. -
Aw man, close call! It could be a model... ...but it's REAL! Look at the hardware detail under the running board!

With all the work you are putting in repairing the flaws, will you have someone cast it? What a rare animal a Checker would be! That says "Pro Street" to me!

Apparently I misunderstood the original question. I thought you were asking for op's on ALMS vs. other forms of racing. As for the race everyone is talking about, when was this ALMS race on TV? And how long was the race? I ask because they seem to trim (read "edit") the televised broadcast down, and that really is annoying.

Texas DPS Charger is on the worbench - update 10-3
Jon Cole replied to SteveG's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Steve- There is some confusion on what is and is not in each box. Some say eight lightbars on the "White Car" (only?) Or are all eight in each kit? And if so, why buy the white car if the only diff is no decals? I'm thinking "White car- eight light bars; no decals", all others, one light bar, decals for one agency. -
UPDATE: 10/27/09! original 1976 release Revell Porsche Carrera RS!
Jon Cole replied to B_rad88's topic in WIP: Model Cars
FYI, there is much complaining from many builders about the poor quality of BLACK BMF. It has very little "stick". The regular Chrome BMF seems to be OK, as far as the adhesive issue is concerned. The best solution? Spray a sheet of Chrome BMF with your favorite black spray! I did this years ago to a half sheet (used a piece of paper to cover the other half). It still works for me. I did use a fine steel wool on the BMF before spraying. -
Actually, I'm so fed up with "NAPCAR" *>YAWN!< that any other series would look better! While I admit I am no textbook of different racing series across the world, I am all for ANYTHING that would offer us road (NOT just oval!) racing using vehicles that have sheetmetal from ACTUAL automobiles! Maybe a Euro type SUPERCAR series, ALMS, anything other than the Series That Fails To Evolve! If I had a quarter for every negative NASCAR... um, I mean "NAPCAR" comment I have heard, or read, I would be rich!

It don't matter to me. All I would suggest, is that if a new page is added, then PLEASE eliminate another one. Stuff is so spread out all over the place (nothing wrong with that in theory) but there seems to be one or more sections that could be folded into a "General Topics" catagory, due to lack of posts and overall activity. Just my 2¢, minus inflation, of course.

The best part of the NNL Nationals....
Jon Cole replied to tim boyd's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Toledo NNL is an event that I hope to attend some year. This year, or Classic Plastic Club in New England had our contest on the same day as the Toledo NNL. For 2010, we are having it in September, as I know Del Paone and others in our club really want to attend Toledo. Thank you all who posted links and pics from the NNL! It's the next best thing to being there! -
Nice LRW Charles! How 'bout that?! TWO "Little Red Wagon" builds displayed here almost at the same time. I think I want to start mine this weekend!

The 2009 iHobby Expo is in two weeks. Is there anyone here that can report on any new announcements pertaining to our hobby? I’m not even sure if there is anything there to report on. I can, however, remember not too long ago when the two big annual toy shows, iHobby (formerly RCHTA), and the New York Toy Show in February, were big deals for our hobby. The model kit manufacturers would often make announcements of new kits at these shows. Will they be making any new announcements? The link I found for iHobby Expo is: http://www.ihobbyexpo.com/home.html iHobby Expo Oct. 22 to 25, 2009 Rosemont, Ill.
