So true. A #60-#80 drill bit set, and a pin vise are so valuable in model building!

Are we done yet ?
Jon Cole replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
New cars. Older cars. Love one... hate the other. Hate...hate...hate. IMHO, a real car guy appreciates each era for what it is, and what it was. And using descriptions like "hate" for a car... just seem silly; again, imho. Everything has a time and purpose, and so does progress. -
The Missouri tornado has been named the worse tornado since 1950. I am bewildered by the raw power and destruction. What is even creepier is the number of deadly tornados in the US is up from previous years. Then you start thinking about all the other natural disasters… not only tornados, but massive flooding, earthquakes, and wildfires. We even had snow and ice storms that were beyond the norm. Perhaps there is no perfect solution. Perhaps “flimsy†2x4 wood constructions should give way to steel beams. Do we need to live in bunkers just to survive nature?

Oh, that looks so right! Nice job! -
Must agree, this is nice! If I saw it last year, I must have forgot. But then again, I can't remember... this morning.

Probably a model.

I printed this info out, and took it to my local hobby vendor. "Order me a few sets!"

Steve- I may be in my mid fiftees, perhaps my eyes aren't what they used to be. But I have enlarged that photo by 50%, and I see no mid pillar. And yet, they all had them(?) The car appears to be 100% stock, so why would a chrome trimmed post be painted black? That makes me wonder if the photo of the blue '61 is a pre-production car. Because the converts had the pillarless door post, Lincoln would have had the part to build one. 1961 was the fist year of that body style.

To All The Friends Out There!
Jon Cole replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah... one web site is reporting that the radio station those fools run... has gone silent. Well, did you see how old their preacher-leader is? Maybe HIS rapture arrived! -
I had a 15% off coupon for the local hobby store, so I went in with the plan to buy this... ...but instead I bought this:

#158 is a KILLER!
Jon Cole replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
YeaA! 158 just arrived in the mailbox! And... in fine shape, too! I did the 'flip-thru', looks good so far. Jairus' "Sketch Pad" was the usual "WoWzers! I may read it today @ work. And since I drive for a living, that may be awkward. -

I just want my #158. Has everyone recieved theirs yet? I did lapse the subscription, but the renewal was sent weeks ago. Wondering if I should go hunting at the one remaining bookstore for it? -

WHAT ARE THE ODDS?

In a few of those pics, there is a low concrete wall. Hitting that, plus the motorcycle must have sent the Sebring into the '32 "A" body, vs. hitting it @ ground level. No matter... it sucks. -
This happened yesterday in Weymouth, Ma. I cannot even tell if it was a coupe or a roadster? WEYMOUTH, Mass. -- A car made a crashing entrance into a home in Weymouth, Sunday, crossing four lanes of traffic, hitting a pole, and crushing an antique car -- all while in reverse. It happened on Route 3 in Weymouth. Phil Drummy, the house’s owner, said he was inside at the time and the bumper landed just three feet away from him. “I do feel lucky, I’m going to go play the lottery right now,†he said. Weymouth firefighters said the driver was southbound on 3A when he hit a pole. The car then reversed across four lanes of traffic and went airborne into the window, also crushing another car and a motorcycle parked near the home. “It’s an absolute miracle on a Sunday afternoon that nobody was seriously hurt,†Deputy Chief John Haslam with the Weymouth Fire Department said. “He said he blacked out,†one witness said. “He had to have, because he was at high speeds, so he had to have blacked out because there was no braking.†“He said he was sorry, he didn’t mean to do it, and he said he got a new car and it had something to do with having a new car,†Drummy said. The driver was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Police were still investigating what caused him to lose control of the car.

Speaking of superglue, I like the 'thick' stuff from Mercury Adhesives. I have also used Zap. The thick stuff does clog in the tip. I try to prevent this by keeping it upright when not in use, as well as tapping it down when I do upright it after use, then I squeeze; wipe clean the tip, then let go. Eventually it still clogs. I use drill bits in a pin vise to open it up, once it is dry. But last night, I couldn't get it opened, so I chucked a drill bit almost 1/16" and really opened it up using a moto tool! I had to continually clean the bit using a dental pick & acetone, but at least I got it opened up.

The "fastback" 2D with the large rear window is referred to as the late version; the Monogram car is the early version, which fewer photos exist. MK; the link u posted is to a diff car, the 2E... diff body, & aerowing on pillars.

"Researchers at Ohio University are finding success in extracting energy from human urine, enough to power a model car and soon, entire buildings." I bet that model car just whizzes along! -
Niko, I don’t think you want to fill in those seams…

Welcome back to the hobby. Yeah, if you need to reinforce something w/ glue, that sends up red flags. Lots of builders use more than one type of glue. Try experimenting with superglue (it WILL glue your fingers together if not careful), and 2-part epoxy, which is my favorite. Two equal sized drops on a scrap, such as tin foil or whatever... stir it up with a toothpick. The "5 minute" stuff is workable for a 3 or 4 minutes, and holds so much better than plastic glue! Plus, if some epoxy gets where you don't want it, wait until it is semi cured, and peel it away with a toothpick. It's great for installing windows. Hope some of this helps. We like to help!

After 4 days, the paint is well on its way to being cured. That is how the paint most likely chipped.
