  1. Follow up to Helmut's observation. I found a picture of the Otaki/Scale Craft/ ARii/Owner's Club body online and comparing it to the Airfix/Heller body. The glass area on the Otaki seems to have much better proportions. I have doubts creeping in that pursuing this build with the Airfix body will be good enough. I was not looking to achieve a fully accurate replica but at least a good level of realism. Not sure I can get there with the Airfix kit.
  2. The ARII kit is off the Otaki molds, with separate parts for doors and fenders. As bas as it looked to you it was still better than what I'm dealing with. I wanted to start this project with an Otaki kit but could not find a reasonably priced one.
  3. Looks so so good Ken. Obviously Lister cared for their drivers and comfort was at the very top of the list! ?
  4. So nice that the powertrain can be seen even with the cover on. 1970's F1 cars were so pretty, each one being unique relative to other. This looks like a very complex build but as always you make it look so straightforward. I love following your builds but no way I'll ever try one of these "kits for experts only"
  5. Very, very, very impressive! 100% scratch built, something rarely seen.
  6. Absolutely agree friend. I got the pen after you did your comparison testing work and finally got to use it. I just followed your lead.
  7. Looks like a fun but challenging project Anton. The body looks generally good but the panel lines look a little soft, but that's easy to fix. I would consider fabricating a diffuser with 0.5 mm Evergreen sheet to improve on the appearance of the crude kit part. You are printing your own wheels? Cool!
  8. Taking a simple vintage git and working it into a great replica of a historic car. I love that and again will be following with great interest. Have you considered printed wire wheels?
  9. While waiting for the USCP stuff to make it here I advanced the build as much as possible.
  10. Wow, what an amazing build. The imagination and skills needed to create this beast are beyond compare. As wild as it is it oozes realism. Bravo!
  11. Looking good Helmut. Doing a mock up, making sure all sits well and where it should is important but mostly shows a path and a nice little energy boost. This looks promising. What a beautiful car.
  12. Extensively researched and beautifully fabricated chassis and mechanical components, You don't do easy kits do you?
  13. Thanks Mark. The kit is rather basic and low part count so I use the old brush to create finishes and textures to add a bit of visual interest and perhaps a bit more realism. Vallejo paints are the secret sauce here and react well to a variety of brushing techniques.
  14. Beautiful model Rich. The Ferrari 89/90 was the most beautiful F1 racer of it's era and one of the most beautiful of all times. The red and black livery is so elegant and the extra layers of clear you applied makes it pop. Today's F1 cars are so big and busy by comparison. Well done sir!
  15. These look fantastic. Design wise they look more correct than Jason's Jag wheels so that's why I too went with USCP
  16. Well... I do have this Aurora DB4 kit on the way. Definitely gonna go to a more agressive type race car. And this one was my attempt at Aston racing green...not a success...?
  17. Finally got a bit of time to do more on this one. Interior and chassis, and now hoping the wire wheels coming in from SpotModel will soon arrive.
  18. Now I get it, you had to get better tires and then create wheels that would fit correctly into them. You gotta do what you gotta do!
  19. That's a lot of work on these wheels. For sure I'm missing something here but the kit wheels looked pretty good, what was wrong with them?
  20. Victory. Take that MFH!
  21. Trevor, what have you done to me... putting the carrot in front of my face...
  22. Noel & Helmut, thanks for the info on Motobitz. I have USCP wheels & tires coming in from SpotModel and look forward to see how they stack up. Trevor, that DB4 looks great and I hope you'll share progress on the Aurora/Monogram kit. I want to build one too. Andy, absolutely please post the interior pictures. I'm building this DB5 as a "mild" weekend racer and doing very little with the interior but I have this plan for an upcoming "more extreme" DB4 with a stripped interior, so these pics will be very useful.
  23. I agree Noel. See the one I built below with picture of the real car in the background. Pretty obvious right. Revell chose tot to tool the taller coupe windshield and used the shorter roadster windshield and the roof line had to be altered to fit. Too bad cause otherwise it's a pretty good kit.
  24. Hi Trevor, I tried to purchase a Aurora/Monogram DB4 but one I was chasing on eBay just slipped through my fingers. So I was willing to buy one but knowing it needs some fixing. Most glaring is the top side glass profile that dips down when approaching the A pillar, the body side is flat but should curve in at the rocker panel area and all the opening panels make body fits a challenge. And of course I would also go with printed wire wheels. I also have read that glass fit requires some work. Call me crazy but I'd love to give it a try.
