Shelby Cobra Daytona
Pierre Rivard replied to 2whl's topic in WIP: Other Racing: Road Racing, Land Speed Racers
The big scale offers so many opportunities for adding a lot of detailing elements but requires the builder to have the skills to execute. It is without a doubt the case here. Fabulous work Mr. Cadwell. -
Wind screens that pivot, hood straps that buckle... at 1/24 scale. Extraordinary work Andrew.

Superb work Mark. Might need a mirror base to display this one. -
Daniel, could you make this dragster a convertible please? We can't see the lovely interior anymore. ?

Thanks TJ. I was so worried about my ability to pull off the paint and decals on this monster. I had to get these done before committing to take on the chassis and interior (mostly scratch built) phase of the build. All systems go now! Thanks, but I need to build a chassis and interior first. Wheels from Scale Lab and tires form Tamiya Porsche 956. Huge huge huge improvement over the kit parts. A must do to make this car look right. -

These look like they fit inside the wheels like they should. I think it's a good move. -
I've only built one resin kit (Lemans 1933 winner) and started with parts that look a lot like these. Time, patience, enjoying the journey more than the destination was a must but I surprised myself with the result. I love your work and will follow your journey with immense pleasure. Please post regular updates. I need my fix!

Major milestone. The paint and decals for this body style have been challenging but it all came out good. The seal coat is done and I have good even gloss and no dust particles. Big smiles! -

Huge amount of work and a powerful rendition of this amazing car. The back end shot of the model oozes so much realism I thought it was the real car. Very very impressive! -

The fix on these brake components is a big improvement. The Tamiya discs just don't look the part. Wonderful way of making this old kit better. Skip the doctor thing. Mine says it's an incurable disease! ? -

Thanks Anton. The fender gills were actually pretty easy to do once I had figured out a method of fabrication. You got me worried for a moment and I double checked my paint. No burn through but a few spots where my sand & polish has not fully restored the gloss level. I get that sometimes but the seal coat over decals usually evens the gloss quite well. -

Hood is molded shut. I'm very happy with the decals. I can now breathe easier and carry on with this build. -
Man this looks sooo good. I have to scratch build an interior for my BMW 3.5csl... you mind doing it for me? ?

A small step for man.... ok, not that dramatic. Decals are what scare me the most about this build. Mainly because I am using a sheet from LeMans Decals and these have been giving me fits in the past. They are fragile & wrinkly and the surface a bit porous (or so it seems). This car has big stripes that will need to fit compound curves (fenders). I've decided to tackle decals before committing to building the interior and chassis. So far I have the complex decals laid out and have survived it by handling them very delicately. The make or break stripes are done, the rest will come later but none of them worry me at this stage. BIG RELIEF!!! -
Interior is no frills basic yet absolutely gorgeous. What color do you plan for the roll cage, painted or raw steel?
