37 Ford panel
bluestringer replied to XYHARRY's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That's a good looking build David. Nice work. I'm starting on a 40 Ford Delivery today. -
Nice kit, went together well. No real problems, had to sand on those slicks a good bit to remove the seam down the middle. Paint is Testor's Sunflower Yellow Enamel, it didn't come out as smooth as I would like. Interior is Createx Black Sealer. Hood was left in flat black primer. Mostly OOB build, added a Connkur wired distributor. I left off the stripe decals, IMO it looked too crowded with all the other decals. I noticed after I took the photos I had forgot the top rad hose, it's been installed now, but I'm not retaking the photos. All comments welcome. Thanks for looking.

Calling it done. I will put photos in under glass. Thanks for the comments and looking.

Thanks David.

Got a rolling chassis, and got decals on the body. I left the strips off because IMO it just looked too crowded with all the other decals.

That is looking great. You are doing a lot more detailing than I did. I didn't even do much painting at all, just threw on a clear coat over the colored plastic. -
Thanks Mike.

Thanks Mike. I knew I had seen these back in the day, we called them sealed beams. Couldn't remember which way they were oriented. -
Ok, the verdict is in, and at the end everyone is going to have a good laugh. I spent most of the morning working on getting it to spray. I started out with cleaning all the passages again, the needle and the cap. I then took a pipette and cut it off so the end would fit tight into the needle where the cup fits in. I filled the pipette with water stuck it in and activated the bulb, water shot out in a nice stream about 3 feet. Ok, I know the passages are clear. I then started checking the air system, looking for leaks everywhere, could not find any. Then I turned the pressure up to 43psi, pushed the trigger on the H and held it, the pressure dropped to 40 and stayed steady. When I released the trigger the pressure went back to 43. Ok, air is good. I then set the needle as Jim suggested, not pushing it all the way in and leaving a small equal amount on each end. I then set the cap as David suggested, just a little past closed. Put the cup on and filled with water, pushed the trigger, I got a little spray but mostly just air. I then filled a bottle and put it on, pushed the trigger, nothing but air. By now I'm pretty well frustrated and angry. I snatch off the bottle, grab the cup again and I jam it it the hole with probably a little too much force and I'm talking to the thing yelling you are supposed to spray you so and so. Fill the cup, push the trigger and it's spraying like a champ. Ok, so now I know what's wrong, and I hate to admit it but I will, idiot error, user caused, I was not pushing the cup and bottle in tight enough to get a good seal, causing the air to not be able to suction properly. Apparently the tubes on the bottle and cup have gotten a little loose over time and now need a little more force to get a good tight seal. I appreciate all the help and suggestions from everyone.

The headlight lens in this kit has a small triangle in the middle. Is it oriented up or down in the bucket, or does it even matter.

I will have some time tomorrow to do a good investigation into this. When I got the new Iwata the other day I hooked it up and sprayed some small items with and it worked fine, but I have not really used it for full on spraying of a body. I will try it tomorrow to get an idea if maybe the problem is not in the H but maybe my setup. I just can't see where the problem is with the H, it should spray. Maybe I have a air leak in my system somewhere and I'm not getting enough pressure to the brush, although I turned it up to 50psi and it blows out the nozzle well, if there is a small leak it may be causing it not to suction properly. I'll get this figured out.
-
Yes, tried two cups. I have the old one and a new one. With the new one it will spray just a little, but I have to hold it about a one inch away from the subject to get any coverage.
-
When I first started using it I had problems getting the paint right, I either had it too thick or too thin, but finally got it figured out and have been spraying fine with it. It act as if there is a leak somewhere keeping it from creating a suction. I wonder if the inside of the body can be removed?
-
I thought that was the problem to begin with, thought the top had slipped and covered the hole, but it stays clear.
-
Thanks Bob. It's the same on the needle, 3.0.
-
Thanks Jim. I will give that a try tomorrow.
-
Thanks Bob. All that has been checked and double checked. I have found on other person on finescale.com that had this very same problem, but there was never a solution found. I'm going to order a new bottle to try. It's a mystery for sure.

AMT 2017 Camaro "Fiftieth" Anniversary Edition

Looking good. It is a really nice kit. I did one a few months ago. I've been looking at those metalizer paints at HL. Kinda expensive but I like how they look, may have to try them. -
I got a brand new needle and cap assembly when it first started acting up, made no difference. I also got a new cup and bottle. With the new cup it will spray just a little, but not enough to cover a body without taking a long time, and I have to hold it about a 1/2 inch from the surface.
-
I have tried it from closed to fully open, no difference.

Yes, as I've said I have cleaned it several times. When I clean it I take it completely apart. I shined a light into all the passages, all is clear. I have taken the packing out and checked it, looks good. I have ran cleaning brushes in all the passages. Yes, it is a simple device that is what's got me baffled, I see nothing that would stop it from working. The only thing I can think of is a crack causing it not to be able to suction. But I can not see any cracks. I have also cleaned the bottles and passages in them several times, all clear. I like the H and would like to get it working, if I can't I will probably just get a new unit.
-
It must have a small crack in the body, but I've looked it over and can't see anything. The last time I used it, sprayed fine, I cleaned it and put it away, got it out to use again and it don't work.

I've tried 2 different bottles and 2 cups. With the new cup it will spray a tiny bit, but not like it should with the needle opened all the way. Sprays nothing but air with the bottles.
