34 Ford Hot Rod Pickup
bluestringer replied to bluestringer's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Thank you. Thanks Bob. Thanks. Thank you. Thank you. -
My first time deviating from a OOB build. Didn't know how this contraption was going to turn out. I guess it's ok, but I know it was fun. I widened the rear axle housing to get the wide tires on without them rubbing the bed, I cut the metal axle in half using it on each side. Wheels will not roll, but that's ok by me. The instructions alluded to a drag version that's similiar, but I wanted a street rod so went with the wide street tires from the 67 Chevelle Pro Street kit. I had to do some building up on the inside wheels to make them fit. I did use the custom engine from the kit, just dechromed the block and intake. I had to make a rod for the front to mount the radiator, this caused it to be too far forward for the hood to work, which I was going to use the top part of the hood without the sides but I am ok like it is. All comments welcome.

The closest hobby shop to me is 70 miles away. Wish I had one local. Hobby Lobby is 35 miles away, but that's where I get most of my stuff. I have ordered some stuff from ebay. -

Thanks Bob. It may not come out looking too good, but it's fun doing these mods. -

Looking forward to seeing your pro street Ford truck Bob. Just the little modding I'm doing on the 34 Ford pickup has got me itching to try more. It is fun. I'm following your build and it's already gave me ideas on doing a pro street mod on a 65 Chevy stepside. -

This is looking good Bob. I like the stock engine also. I airbrushed Testors enamels back a long time ago, never got good results, but I was inexperienced and was using one of those Testors 10 dollar AB. I should give it another try. -

Rear end is ready for those big meats. I was hoping to get the body painted today, but the weather is not cooperating, rainy and humid. Will not get much done the rest of the week, got a colonoscopy scheduled for Thursday and the prep starts tomorrow. ☹️ -

Thanks. The custom engine in this kit is lacking. The distributor and coil are molded in with the heads and intake, all one piece. And they don't even look much like a coil and distributor. I cut the distributor off so I can put in the pre-wired. -

It's looking real good Bob. I've seen these kits at HL, may have to pick up one next 40% week. Looks like a fun build. -

Not sure what headers to use. The set out of the 25 T bucket model will work but this is supposed to be a street rod. May use them anyway. The instructions shows no fan on the custom engine, but there is a fan in the kit so I assume it can be used. I will be using a pre-wired distributor, but I don't have it yet. -

Thanks. I'm skipping the fenders, too much modification for me. This is the first time that I'm trying to deviate a little from a out of box build. Also doing a little kit bashing for the first time. -
