  1. Milt I've used both Tamiya Clear and Model Masters Ultra Gloss clear over Tamiya paints without any problems If you're not worried about losing detail...Rustoleum Clear Lacquer works well also, it's a wee bit heavier...but comes in a big can as far as a two tone paint jobs...clear coat after applying all of your color coats this also helps knock down ridge lines between the colors good luck c'ya curt
  2. thanx, I had some info on the car...but couldn't locate it or remember it, but figured someone on the forum would know
  3. Ya I know...but my buddy wanted it with BIG stacks! so I found some nice BIG aluminum stacks for him...
  4. Milt Ya can do it before or after clearcoating...try it both ways and chose the one ya like best I've done it both ways, prefer putting it on after a clearcoat...does retain a metallic look and ya can polish it the stuff doesn't lift if applied properly, paint has to be clean...be careful with how ya handle the model...oil from your fingers can comprimize the adhesive but like evrything else in this hobby...it will stick really hard when ya don't want it to and slide right off when it ain't s'posed to...kinda like super glue c'ya
  5. Went diggin' thru the box of instructions (for whatever reason...I keep all of the instructions for everything I build) The kit is an IMC #108 Mecom Lola T-70 The guy I built it for sent me the kit from his collection thanx
  6. Hi Clay I have not had much time to browse the forum...but i'm really impressed with your work on this latest build It's fun seeing the progress you've made over the past 6 monthes keep up the good work...and please stop sending pictures of the trailer with the "saltlicker" sittin' on it...you're making Rauls head swell everytime he see's it just kidding...the "saltlicker" looks great on the trailer What would have really made this build special is if the tow vehicle was a Studebaker pick'em up truck!
  7. Built this for a friend a while back It was a very old kit, but went together fairly well I enjoyed building this kit and was very happy with the final result...one of those rare builds were everything worked! The proud owner has it on display in his dentists office... Thanx for lookin'
  8. While searching for different variations on the Testarosa 250, I came across this car and decided to build it. Don't know who drove the car or what races it raced in... Built straight out of the box using an old set of Umi decals for the numbers Paint is Tamiya TS-16 Yellow - cleared over with MM Ultra Glos Clearcoat did not encounter problems with putting body on the chassis. Was a fun build and probably will turn it up a notch or two on the next one Please excuse the photos... my trusty Olympus SP-320 died - so used the kidz camera thanx for lookin'
  9. I've down loaded a lot of artwork and graphics...so I just size them, print on my old HP inkjet to decal paper, clearcoat it, then cut and slap on the model thanx for the comments
  10. Our model club, 'Monterey Bay Scale Auto Association' had a "same kit build" last year. The Monogram 58 T-Bird convertable was chosen as the kit. This is what I built... Used a Thunderbird Pro street chassis and drive train and slapped the 58 T-Bird body on it Was gonna leave it as a convertable, but didn't like the looks...so shaved down the windscreen and lowered the top. Paint is Tamiya's Pearl White, Pearl Blue, homemade decals and covered with MM Ultra Gloss Clearcoat thanx for lookin'
  11. Haven't been on the forum much lately...other than browsing between a new job and building models...not much time left to play on da'puter! Here's an AMT 53 Studebaker with "Flintstone" resin body and a "Parts Pack" Chevy small block w/Potvin blower hanging out front. Paint is HoC Tangelo Orange, homemade decals...both covered with MM Ultra Gloss Clearcoat 16" Aluminum wheel discs are from "Parts by Parks" thanks for lookin'
  12. The Porsche 550 is one of my favorite cars... this model looks fantastic in resin before paint has even touched it gonna have to pony up the bucks I've been past the location of the James Dean accident. Highway 41 has been widened a little bit...you can still visualize how the accident happened looking forward to seeing you complete this model thanx
  13. Aw-w Shucks!! "evilone"...thank you for starting the thread, Clayton for puttin' the poll together and those who voted Please do not send kits...recognition from fellow model car dudes and/or dudettes is the best prize and Raul... No, I won't be selling the Brute Funnycar and/or Troxels Top Fuel Car on eBay! gotta get back to work on some "rats & cats" for the NNL West in March...
  14. Thanx...i do take that as a complement Raul is always having me check out the diecast kits he buyz...geez they can build some fine lookin' stuff in those factories
  15. excellent model of this car... lookin' at the model brought back memories of watching it race at Sears Point (Infineon Raceway) many-many years ago thanx
  16. Here's my entry...
  17. Yep...they still in business can be found at http://www.indycals.net not just indy cars, trans am, f-1s, etc
  18. I've had a number of these AMT and Monogram Indycar kits taking up space, can't sell'em on ebay So I decided to build a few straight out of the box, but using IndyCal decals - cuz the kit decals suck! plus IndyCal decals provide versions not available in kit form..and vice-versa Here's Al Unser Seniors Hertz-Penske PC17 It has already found a home on Dentist Bill's office in Alburquerque Thanx for lookin...
  19. if spare bodies aren't available...buy a black sharpy and a box of plastic picnic spoons paint the spoons and use the sharpy to record the paint used, etc easy to store and can be referenced later when ya forgot how ya got that weird shade of green, etc
  20. Varoooooom - Varoooooom!!! nice stacks!
  21. You're gonna build another one???..cuz ya done gave this one away It sure is a great looking model and I know Clay will enjoy the work you put into it but you said ya never want to see another avanti kit again...let alone build one maybe a salt flat or dry lake racer other than the avanti, heh! hee-hee!
  22. thanx...i kinda like that thread as well...
  23. Well how'bout... "The Long and Winding Road"...Beatles "Radar Love"...Golden Earing "Thunder Road"...Bruce Springsteen "Little Duece Coupe" & "Surf City"...Beach Boys "Highway to Hell"...AC/DC "One Headlight"...The Wallflowers "NSU"...Cream "Riders on the Storm"...The Doors "Magic Bus"...The Who and "Dead Man's Curve"...Jan & Dean to name a few...
  24. I guess I'm a little slow on this, also not into "text speak"...what is R.O.M.?
  25. thanx for the comments and reminding me about the Union kit. I'd forgot about that one and actually built it for a buddy back some 15 - 20 years ago...
