Winns Ford GT
galaxyg replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Great looking GT, and a very nice livery too. Opening doors are very cool. -
Very nice pair of WRC cars there. I also build R2 MRE, last year. It's a great kit.

Thanks, everyone for the comments. To answer the question above - this bit fitted OK on my kit. Only screwing the bumper to the body was quite hard work given I didn't quite have the right sized screwdriver. The lights/mesh combo did need a little pushing in after that to sit right, but that was all I needed there.

Background: I bought this kit as a started model for £7.50 (About $9.30) - the chassis and interior were glued but not painted - and the interior was easily broken down into it's original parts. I'd never considered this car or kit before and I was mainly attracted by the price and a desire to not see something go unfinished. However during the course of building this I've come to appreciate the Murcielago and how it looks very much. Random chance of finding this cheap secondhand kit has brought me into a build I'd never expected and yet enjoyed a lot. Pros: Very nicely moulded, almost all of it fits together perfectly. Nice plated wheels, good tyres, brakes, glass parts, interior and decals. The use of screws for certain parts sounds clunky but it's actually a good solution. There is a partial engine, which is better than none, and the engine cover opens. Cons: The partial engine is just 4 parts and very much lacking in detail if built as-is. The front wheels are far too inboard and need correcting if the model is to look any way realistic. Verdict: Mostly good enough, although I'm sure the Aoshima kit has a lot more detail with it's engine and opening doors etc. However the Fujimi is almost a simple build, aside from the need to correct the wheels. Build notes: Built over the course of 2 weeks in April 2023. Painted with Halfords rattle-can Vauxhall Breeze Blue and clearcoated with Halfords rattle-can lacquer. I've corrected the front wheels by adding 3mm thickness to the steering mounts on either side. The wheel hub and bonnet badges, the number plates and a few engine details are added to what is in the box.I'm happy with the result and Breeze Blue is a colour that for some reason photographs really well.

Revell Corvette C7.R "StreetCar" in Custom Mixed Teal.

I've built this same kit and it's certainly possible - as you have done - to get a great looking result out of what is a simple kit. Very nice. Great colour. -
Background: The S15 Silvia is one of my favourite Japanese sports cars - certainly up there in the top 10. I find it to have a very elegant look. I bought this kit some 10 years before actually getting around to it, part of that delay was indecision over the colour. When I discovered Nissan Silver Moss not long ago whilst researching another kit, I knew I had my S15's colour and started immediately. Pros: Very nicely moulded, almost all of it fits together perfectly. Good wheels, tyres, glass parts and decals and the special edition with PE set made for some useful detail enhancements too. Bonnet is a separate item making painting and polishing easier. Few seamlines and zero cleanup. Cons: No engine. The front bumper mounts are small and weak, and need reinforcement - a common problem with Aoshima kits, I've found. The seats are a bit slabby in appearance and don't really looks like fabric, more like marble. Most of the chromed parts are way too shiny. Verdict: Mostly excellent. It's one of the most straightforward kits I've built in a long time. Build notes: Built over the course of about 4 weeks in Jan/Feb 2023. Painted in Nissan Silver Moss. Clearcoated with Mr Hobby Premium Gloss. Aside from air valves on the wheels, built entirely out of the box.

Heller Citroen DS3 WRC 2013
galaxyg replied to galaxyg's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Thanks. Yes it was. Although the lower red area on the rear of the car I sprayed and painted as I figured the decals would not be up to such changes of angles. -
Background: The Abu Dhabi Citroen DS3 would be in my personal top 10 rally car livery/car shape combos, even though it's not an especially well remembered one and lost in the long Sebastian period of the WRC. At the time I bought this Heller kit it was long out of production but eventually the 2012 Red Bull version cropped up on Ebay from a seller in France (appropriately for a French kit of a French car), auctioned along with the 2013 Abu Dhabi decals. Heller have since decided to reissue the kit, sans decals. Certainly for less than I paid. 3 sets of number and driver/co-driver decals are included but given the overall French-ness of the thing, it would be wrong to give it to anyone except Loeb, so number 1 it is. Pros: It's a good shape and for the most part fits together very well. The glass parts are very good: thin and shiny. The wheel arches and underbody entirely fit the upper body with none of the gaps you get on most models. The decals are also of good quality, necessary since there are so many and so many that are large. The rollcage is very comprehensive. For a Heller kit, it's a bonus that it steers and that it has door cards. Seats and door mirrors have good positive mountings. Cons: The kit lacks a lot of detail - in particular the underbody and suspension is very very simplified and anything related to engine or transmission is absent. The fit and assembly of the roll cage is poor though buildable with some hassle. There's some moulding cleanup to be done and some ugly ejector pin marks on the seats. The instructions are not very clear in parts and do have some errors in both painting and decal numbering. The wheels and tyres seem not wide enough to the real car, and the tyres are a little plasticky. The flappy box is kind of annoying. And then there's the decals.. which are good decals and go on well. But there are a lot of them and there's a lot of decal softener and patience involved. Not Hellers fault but it's a con if you don't like that kind of thing. Verdict: It's a good starting point for either a simple or detailed build. Aside from the roll cage, it's great that it all fits together easily. However the complex decalling requires a lot of prior experience. Build notes: Built over the course of 6 weeks in December 2022-February 2023. A lot of extra detail has been added to this kit, most of which is in the interior and too numerous to list out entirely. Amongst other things (interior): Seatbelts, wiring, Air-con hose, extra boxes, cables, straps. Exterior: those small black domes on the roof, PE pins and aerials. Also the bonnet and grille meshes were opened up from the original kit (which took ages, it's thick plastic) and replaced with real mesh.

I love this. It makes me want to get this kit. Fantastic. -
That's very nice, and a great shine. I've built this same kit and encountered similar problems, also solved by making my own locating tabs.

AMT Matchbox Toyota Hilux 4x4
galaxyg replied to Spottedlaurel's topic in Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
Nice looking classic Hilux. Removing that bull-bar really does make a lot of difference as you say. -
Nice. Did you make those louvres on the windows or are they part of the kit?
-
Only 2 of the cars I've owned exist in kit form, and they are two of my trio of mid-life-crisis sports cars. (The third being a last generation Honda Prelude). Two photos of each, the latter of each is photographed on top of the car itself. Mazda RX-8: Nissan 350Z.
-
Smart. Looks so much better with those style wheels on.
-
Nice. I do like that Yenko.
-
Amongst all the other good ones, that BMW bike is especially nicely done.
-
Stunning looking Lambo.
-
Beautiful. And Beautiful paintwork.
-
Very nice. I don't know what most of these are, but I like them. Especially the Green car with the black bonnet that says "340" on it.
-
Nice! Especially that McLaren, and its engine bay.
-
Very nice. Cracking engine bay.
-
Stunning work. I have the same "Mello Yello" Pontiac in my stash. Did you do a WIP? The Wrangler Thunderbird, the Metro 6R4 and the Galant are my favourites from the set.

Very very nice, and great paintwork. The colour suits it well and now this kit is going on my "might buy" list.
