I kind of feel the same way. I know this has been a thing for many years but I have always just clear coated using the same paint but clear after my color coat. What if you have a blacked out hood (flat black) you pour the clearcoat over it and now its a gloss black hood. Just sayin' clear spray has always worked fine for me.

Making chrome plated wheels to look like aluminum?
Mike C. replied to kincer's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials

I usually soak my chrome in simple green or spick and span (think it's Mr. clean now) and primer the parts so the paint has something to bite into. The paint wont want to bite into the chrome.

Not really an album, just a great live performance.

What would YOU like to see as a model
Mike C. replied to JeroenM3's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Or you could go with a new tooling. how about Fonzie's short lived Knucklehead. I heard one story that Henry Winkler hated it because it was too heavy so the network got him the Triumph he had later on. he didn't even ride motorcycles. Any time you saw him riding it was a stunt double. -

This would be an easy and much welcomed re-issue. I should have bought a half dozen of these the last time they came around. I have a thing for vintage dirt bikes. -
I had to learn the hard way. ? ???

I used to use that stuff many years ago for my 1/18 wheels mostly until they changed the formula (probably to save money) and they have never worked right again. I should have been done with it then. I tried casting a wheel about 2 years ago and can you believe the stuff got even worse. The resin seems to work on my old molds but when they are done, partys over. The silicone simply does not work. Theres a reason they are trying to get rid of that stuff. It's worthless!

What Kind Of Music Do You Listen To While You Build?
Mike C. replied to Miatatom's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When I was a kid I can remember this song seemed like it was on the radio every time I turned it on. It got stuck in my head long ago. The Sultans of Swing was not far behind. I guess I just tuned out the discoey stuff. -

Until the End of the World. Good film great soundtrack.

Finally saw the rest of the movie. It would be interesting to talk to the people that were actually there and see how much the Hollywood version embellished the real story but that is always the case. On a side note, a good friend of mine who lives out in LA and is also a SAG member is an acquaintance of that guy who played Lee Iacocca and I'll have to ask him if he knows any details about this film next time I talk to him. He's always got dirt on these things.

Best glue for fabrics and styrene?

So the Elmers idea is off the table? -
This started out as the Jolly Green gasser that I planed to build as a period street racer but it stalled after I wasn't happy with the paint. It's soaking in the purple pond now.

My '77 Westfalia bus was great when sitting still but not to drive. First of all the fuel injection system would never work right. If you could somehow get past this the thing was not a very highway savvy vehicle. One time a gust of wind hit me from the side and suddenly I'm in the left lane on a 4 lane divided highway. Wind was not your friend with this one. The awful heat system meant that I would just park it in the winter and borrow one of my sisters cars or dads truck.

Best glue for fabrics and styrene?

I used the colander and it just seemed to slow down the entire operation with what seemed like little benefit. For the headlining, it seemed like alot less stayed up there than I thought would. -
I was watching it on DVR up until a scene where Carroll Shelby asked to land the small plane they were in and the recording went completely black and no sound. The entire rest of the movie was like this so I erased it and now I'll have to wait until tomorrow night to DVR it again. I did see one racing scene that was supposed to be around 1964 and I spotted a '67 big block hood on a Corvette. I'm sure I'll see more Hollywood mistakes in the rest of the film.

Best glue for fabrics and styrene?
Mike C. replied to Mike C.'s topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
My first thought was the good ol' Elmers I still have a new bottle that hasn't had a chance to dry up yet. I already did it with expensive flocking but I just didn't like the color or the thickness so I soaked the panels in purple power and they look like they are ready for the next step. For the headliner, I'm just going to glue right over the whats left of the flocking using some cheapo brushes. -
I'm using some fabric as carpet in a van model. What would be a good glue for this? Keep in mind some surfaces will be upside down so gravity would not be a friend here.

That came out really nice and you really nailed that blue interior. Great job! ?

Bought my first glue bomb. Need advice please.
