What Revell should put out as Kits...
Casey replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It wasn't supposed to be out this year, nor was it ever officially announced by Revell. From what I recall hearing/reading, Ed Sexton from Revell was in contact with at least one member here, and the LX project was put on the backburner for now. I'm sure it will eventually be released, but I doubt it will be this year, seeing as both the '99 Cobra and '93 Cobra kits are due to be reissued in the next few months. -

He'll probably backpedal on that later, unless he comes to grips and gets a handle on things. -
Revell 29 Ford Rat Rod (Truck)

You could always post/ask in that topic- I'm sure people who built it would chime in and share their experience with the kit. -

Port hole windows on a van
Casey replied to Austin T's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Make a template out of card stock (index card or similar thickness), and cut a hole out, inside which the porthole window will fit. Take the hole template, place it on the body (tape it in place so it stays put), then trace around the inside or the template's hole. Then, using your favorite scribing tool, carefully scribe through the plastic along all four edges until the hole in the van body is open. Get out your needle files, and carefully file and sand until the porthole window fits perfectly inside. It's always better to not sand enough material away (until you get it just right) than to sand off too much and have a sloppy fit. -
Does anyone know why there are cut lines on the underside of the hood? You can just make out the thinner square area toward the front of the hood in Eric's picture above.

Is that a Paxton supercharger I see to the left of the two license plate bases in the second last image above? I also see an extra pair of (rear, I assume) deeper steel wheels (and tires to go with them), a dual-quad intake manifold, and a very small sprue with only the front suspension and rearend pieces on it. It looks like there are separate fuel supply lines from the fuel pump to the carb(s), too. I was thinking the separate fuel tank part might be a concession to future modified reissues, but I think the spare tire well would pose more of a problem (and wheelbase length?) for a Ranchero or Country Squire version partially based on this tooling.

When Moebius' next new kit is announced, we'll all have Chuck to thank. Nice work on the OHV version, Chuck. I'm sure you'll find it a nice home...if you haven't already.

I had read somewhere (maybe in the SA Tom Daniel-themed issue a few years ago?) that Tom designed the decals, without regard for which engine was actually included with the kit. As has been stated a few times, Tom's designs were never intended to be accurate replicas, so him taking creative license with the engine's displacement on the decals should surprise nobody. It's a "for fun" kit, nothing more...unless you want to make it more than that.

I suspect his issue is money. From everything I've read, he sounds like a "go it alone" type guy, who doesn't have the money to invest in the molding, mold repair, and raw material supply to actually make any new kits from whatever tooling he may possess. I am pretty sure he made and sold resin cast interiors for the '55 Plymouth (Pontiac?), which leads me to believe he doesn't have the ability to make any new injection molded kits nor part with whatever molds he owns. While it would be nice, just for curiosity's sake, what he doe have an in what condition it is in, I suspect we would be a bit disappointed to hear/read the truth...and some just don't want to give up on the dream that JoHan will rise from the ashes and be a player in the injection molded kit business again.

What Revell should put out as Kits...
Casey replied to TheCat's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
These would all be great Revell of Germany releases, but not great choices for Revell. Totally different markets, customers, and expectations. Remember the Revell-AG/Monogram Bugatti EB110 kit?: How many of us bought that kit? And how easy is that kit to find for $10 now at a swap meet? Easy. It has little to no "future" selling power, as it's not a "known" name to most U.S. buyers, unlike Ferrari and Lamborghini. People can instantly recognize and Countach from 30+ years ago, but I bet 3 people out of 100 could I.D. a Veyron or an EB110. I know this is a "wish list" topic, I get that, but the supercars seem more like Revell-AG and Tamiya/Aoshima/Fujimi releases than Revell. -

The tires on the Foose Coronet kit appear to be the die-cast style tires to me, and yes, all four tires on both kits appear to be the same size. No idea on the brakes, but I'm sure we'll see in a few weeks when the Firebird kits drops. -

Mixed messages...
Casey replied to Darin Bastedo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
^ What Dennis said. I can do it faster and more efficiently myself. I don't have someone else drive me to the store, pick my items and place them into my cart/basket, nor bring them to the register for me, either, so self-checkouts are fine by me. My only complaint is that there aren't more of them. -
PVC plumbing pipe?

I would experiment with Bob's technique, using various materials (rubber, foam block) as the carrier for the paint. Essentially you are tampo printing the ink on the letters that way. Otherwise, spray the entire tailgate in the white you want the letters painted, ideally in a lacquer. Then, respray the entire tailgate in the body color (ideally an enamel), and once the paint starts to setup or is fully dry use a blunt ended object with a polyester (you want as little lint/fibers as possible) rag dipped in mineral spirits to remove the body colored paint on the top of the raised letters. Either method takes practice, but you'll get better results than freehand painting them IMHO.

It's possible it was in SAE or Car Modeler, but I can't say for sure. Somebody in another topic mentioned it was his wife.
