Is Ira Bulding 1/1 Cars?
Casey replied to Modelmartin's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I really like that. Gremlin Express + trike = this -
Yeah, that wasn't totally accurate, but since Jeff's such a nice guy, I figured I'd mention another of his offerings.

wrinkle wall slicks who sells them
Casey replied to Lownslow's topic in Car Aftermarket / Resin / 3D Printed
Yeah, that would only work on the Back Up Pickup. -

Looks like Speed City Resin makes them in rubber: http://www.speedcity...m/PartsPage.htm -
Patrick, you may want to check out this thread, too: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=48177

Jeep J10
Casey replied to Airfilter's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Pickups, Vans, SUVs, Light Commercial
That looks great, Paul. What is the source for the 5-slot, 8-lug wheels? -
Very cool, Jeff. Now, just park a Ford Nucleon (or a Chrysler Turbine car wagon) on top and you've got an....wait for it....

I'm assuming he wants to build a '79 Hurst/Olds, a car which does not exist in kit form, wants to make all of the parts separately (not group them into assemblies), from plastic, then glue them together...pretty much like a typical model kit. I would suggest you start with the Monogram-based 1/24 Buick GN/GNX kit and the Monte Carlo SS kit, then modify from there. Chuck Most posting in 3....2....

Didn't someone re-do these slicks so there was a left and right side slick now? Drag City Casting, maybe? -
I found some nice pics of the Matador and Gremlin engine parts in Marc's '72 Gremlin build topic: http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=34122&st=0

Is this what passes for Pro Built?
Casey replied to Evil Appetite's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ehem, the seller is the "Kingofmodelcars". I have seen a few sellers which claimed "pro built" and I agreed with them (the CHrysler C-body models come to mind), but I know definitions of "pro built" vary wildly. -
I didn't see this answered yet, but looking at the pics of Dave's built engine, it's hard to say since his has a tunnel ram intake. It would be nice to have an accurate AMC V8, but the cynic in me says there probably has never been one made in scale from either AMT, MPC, nor JoHan.
-
The steep angle of the inner fenders/shock towers looks odd but considering there really is no front suspension, it makes sense for the model. Ah well, you take what you can get from '70s AMT kits. Something about 10" wide Cragar S/S wheels and N50s just works on a Gremlin.
-
Not too bad, Brandon. Definitely better than what I was able to build at your age, but I would still suggest you skip the opening trunk and other advanced building techniques until you master the basics. I think you'll be less frustrated when building, and especially so when you try to install the nosecone on the '69 Daytona kit.
-
I suspect more than one person will end up tossing it, not realizing that's all there is. Is there a similar era AMC model which could donate accurate front suspension pieces? Ideally something without a axle rod, but AFAIK only AMT, MPC and JoHan produced AMC car models of the '70s.

I think you'll have better luck in the trade section, especially for stock parts, as most aftermarket parts will be geared toward custom or non-stock parts. The Modelhaus offer many stock replacement parts for older promos and '60s era kits, but I'm not sure if they offer anything for the Mopar E-bodies. I would try posting exactly what you need (scale, manufacturer, and part such as: 1/25 MPC '70 Barracuda exhaust manifolds) in the Swap/Trade/Free section, as a 1/24 Monogram part will not work on a 1/25 MPC kit, and so on. If it's non-stock custom wheels, engine parts (Mopar Performance valve covers, etc. you are after, there are a few sources for resin cast parts, but sometimes kits contain those parts, too.

Don't get the AMT '61 Ford Galaxie
Casey replied to '08SEAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Doesn't the bottom of the box show the kit's contents? -
No need to get sour. I'm asking you to share what you you know since you obviously have experience and more knowledge regarding RP technology. I don't see what's wrong with debating what the future will hold regarding 3D printing, and if you have information which answers the questions, why not share it?
-
Because we enjoy discussing something which might be very near and dear to our hearts in a few years. Please fully explain the technology to us so that we can better understand it.
-
I'm not blaming them or trying to find fault, but you have to take into account the manufacturer's desire to have it's product represented in a quality manner- something they can control making the kit's contents themselves. I'm not buying into the "all they want is the money from the sale" argument, either.

Looks like the Revell Chevy Van (well, the Monogram 1/24 Chevy van) will be arriving in February.
-
How is that different than printing a duplicate kit, one part at a time? Then doing it over, and over again? I think controlling how the file is used is still something that will not be easy for Revell and others, but I'm sure they'll eventually figure it out. Then there's the issue of quality. 3D Printers (and the medium in/from which the actual parts are made) will no doubt vary, so what happens when someone buys the Lexmark $19.99 printer equivalent in 3D printers, prints out a new 1/8 Revell Superbird, and it's really lacking in the accuracy and quality department because of the poor printer resolution? Yes, it's ultimately up to the end used to make what's delivered inside the box a nice model, but at least with a complete injection molded styrene kit you get a nicely engineered, accurate model of consistent quality. Can we say that about 3D printing? Is Revell going to be pleased to see their product (the developed kit on digital form) presented as a low quality model?

1/25 AMT 1973 Chevy Custom Van - Dirty Donny VANTASY
Casey replied to disabled modeler's topic in Truck Kit News & Reviews
Semi-related question... Why did AMT label this kit as the "KANDY-VAN" on the box art but have "Candy Van" on the decals? -
I think that fact tends to be forgotten when an older kit is announced for reissue, especially by younger builder who may not have experience with older (and by older I mean pre-'90 or so) kits, since we've been spoiled the last 15 years or so with so many new/modern kit from new tooling. As with any model, there is always room for improvement, but how much is up to the builder. Even if you're not a huge fan of older kits like this on, we should at least give credit (and some thanks) to Round2 for not only bringing this kit back, but for taking the steps necessary to reissue it with the stock body instead of the customized body, as it was last reissued. It's probably not a quick and easy process to repair and backdate the tooling, so kudos to Round2 for investing the time, money and effort. And thanks for posting the pics of the kit's contents, everyone. I think that makes huge difference to those on the fence about buying one (or more).
