Yea I hope it can get passed down and preserved. Unfortunately the younger generations aren’t modelers or have the appreciation for them . There’s less and less drag strips or dirt tracks for them to cut their teeth on these days. On the east coast here who would have ever thought of not seeing a drag race at Englishtown or the nigh of thrills at Atco. I’m feeling like the hobbies that we started when we were kids are turning into old man hobbies.

This is a true survivor that’s been handed down from my dad he built this in 1967 at age 19 . This is what got me into modeling as I starred at this car on the shelf for hours. He was smart not to trust it in my possession until I was 14 . Today would have been his 75th birthday. He built this beautiful gasser right from the amt box. All I do is dust it off every so often , and admire it for inspiration. Thanks dad .As always thanks for looking ?, Mike

I brought this kit at a car show swap meet 40 years ago because it was a red 64 dodge that mom & dad brought me home from the hospital in when i first saw the light of day.This became my first spray painted model which my dad painted for me in our old greenhouse. The red testors enamel went on nice and smooth with no orange peel or runs .However the humid greenhouse environment knocked the glossy finish off of it. I did the assembly and it lived on my shelf for the next six years at this time I decided to replace the kits born with hemi with the wedge from amt’s 49 Mercury. From here it went back on the shelf for 20 years. During a move it fell and hit the floor which took out the a pillar and cracked the windshield into storage it went. This winter I decided to take it apart and make it into the version that I always wanted with the help of smp decals a fresh paint job , and a more detailed chassis/ engine from the lindburg color me gone kit. I also used the new grill from the lindburg kit . The front wheels and tires are some leftover amt parts . The cool looking Jo-Han fender well headers don’t really fit the lindburg chassis to good and the tubes don’t meet the heads on the engine, but they look great from the outside. I think this build captures the look of the magazine cover, and I’m so glad to see it back on the shelf next to my other honker dodge’s. As always thanks for looking ? , Mike

I know that Buick had a air stream edition in the late sixties. It came with a trailer hitch and a assortment of balls in the trunk. Big block engine, turbo 400 and posi rear

Dave it looks fantastic. The green paint looks like a mirror and the shade of green looks spot on . I’ve been wanting to build this one for sometime myself, and my decals just came in the mail last week. Now seeing yours I really can’t wait.. thanks for posting.

This one started off with the amt nova pro street kit. I altered the rear wheel wells separated the front fenders and made a one piece flip front end . In the engine compartment is a big block from the amt 1967 pro street chevelle kit with the injector manifold from the amt 63 corvette the stacks are aftermarket , the timing chain cover was in the amt 1939 ford sedan The wheels are from the old pro nova . The front leaf springs came from the amt 1933 Willy’s the axle is aluminum tubing . I made the roll bar from 0.80 plastic rod . The hurst t- handle shifter is from the mpc flip front 1953 ford pickup. Amt blue streaks out back and Firestone supreme tires up front. The beautiful red enamel is plain old testors topped with slixx decals. as always thanks for looking ?, Mike

I built the 1987 reissue and would love to see it back. The body proportions look fine to me as it’s only a model. I always thought the monogram kits looked a little big , but I also preferred 1/25 scale. I would be nice to have a more detailed chassis plate , and a interior with a removable back seat. A set of Fenton wide and narrow aluminum slots these would work well for a drag and a custom version , Firestone drag 500’s , and a couple of pro stock style hood scoops , optional hemi heads and valve covers , a tunnel ram with dominator carb’s just like the ones in the grumpy’s pro stock vega. A nice t- handle hurst shifter complete with reverse lock out lever, and a simple roll bar could nicely round out the drag option. Even though I usually build drag cars l would definitely build a winged and coned nose nascar version, and a full custom version. If nothing else keep that 440 six pack, and cool pistol grip shifter . I can also see some cool box art with a petty nascar racer , or a Sox & Martin drag car or a full custom even a stock version in that sweet mopar copper color . I don’t think round 2 can go wrong on this one. Here’s a couple of pictures of my 1987 issue survivor

Thanks Jeff , the 4- speed era was the best time for pro stock . You saw who the real drivers were. The Lenco transmission and compact cars changed everything

I built this model sometime in the early nineties from kit bashing the johan Sox & Martin cuda with the new at the time amt/ertl challenger kit. The aluminum slot mags are from the johan pro stock comet . I had to use two sets of Fred cady decals as the black base color bleeds through the yellow. The yellow panels had to be cut and splice together since they were drawn to fit the monogram 1/24 scale body. The hardest part of the build was sanding the molded in vinyl top texture off the roof. The hood scoop was from the mpc 1975 dodge dart kit. The black paint is from krylon topped future floor polish. Before slixx started it was always tough to piece together all the right small sponsorship decals. When slixx decals came on the market it really changed everything for the better. I still so grateful they are still here. As always thanks for looking ?, Mike

I don’t think the 50 degree weather I paint when it’s cool out all the time .I find as long as the humidity is low i ok. If you blow up the dart photo you can see all the tiny decal wrinkles the happened from the clear coat
