Tamiya....lets get it right.
Junkman replied to roadhawg's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
C does take on a t sound in German, exactly like z, so Citroen is pronounced tseetroenn by most Germans, which is completely wrong. Vitamin C is pronounced wee tah meen tsay. Then there is ch, but I won't go there. -
Have question about truck model
Junkman replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'd consider this rare no matter how one looks at it. But with the Inc. and the AG reunited, there is hope. -

Audi rhymes with howdy. Not aw-dee. -

And it's mare-tsay-daz and not mer-say-dees. -
I think the LS one is where it all started. A lot of the 'vintage' Aoshima kits are based on ancient LS tooling. Much of the 1/20 scale LS tooling ended with Arii, but not all of it. I also have the impression (and Scott Hards confirmed this) that leasing tooling from one company to another is common practice in Japan. And yes, Chuck, a healthy dose of the Bosuzoku touch will go a long way with this car.

Have question about truck model
Junkman replied to gray07's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
There are currently none on Ebay. Zero. Zilch. Nada. Niet. Rien. Nemo. You can use this as an indicator for how rare they are meanwhile. Don't forget, it's only going to be reissued shortly after you managed to obtain an origial. -

RAT ROD GRIND HOUSE
Junkman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
So there you go. Why build such useless rubbish in the first place? -
You are completely right. Back in the day when I built the kit, I used the chassis and side panels from a Toyota Chaser kit, that's still readily available. For what they are, many of these kits are indeed overpriced, but then again, as I said before, what is the alternative? If you are into old Japanese sheetmetal Baroque, this is a toad you must be prepared to swallow. Anyway, I just placed an order with HLJ for that thing. Mine will be canary yellow this time around.

RAT ROD GRIND HOUSE
Junkman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Yeah, until it's luffing on top of the first speed hump. Then it's ridiculous. -

That is correct Sir. Like faugh-vay and not veedubblyooh. But how on earth does one pronounce Buick? -
1980-1990 Chevrolet Caprice model
Junkman replied to matador88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Don't we all? And make this a 1977-1990 Caprice. As Darin wrote, your only option is the Modelhaus, which evolved from a heavily modified Ertl diecast stockcar and is an Impala, not a Caprice. I have never seen one built, but after seeing a photo of the kit, I wasn't convinced enough to shell out 62 $ for it. It just doesn't look right to me. -
Ever have a tire shrink?
Junkman replied to Chuck Most's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
You know... It actually is funny. If you wouldn't need those tyres for a project, you'd find it funny too. Too bad I don't have the kit, otherwise I'd happily help you out. -
RAT ROD GRIND HOUSE
Junkman replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
X2 Traditional hot rodding primarily serves the purpose to improve the performance and/or handling of a car. I don't see this spirit carried into most of the VISA card rat rods I see today. I like hot rods that are unfinished in the paint and appearance departments. But for the life of me, I cannot warm up to this rat rod thing as a fashion gag. To me, most of today's rat rodders are nothing but a bunch of posers who think they are soooo different, but in reality just subscribe to yet another zeitgeisty trend. It's a shame really, because they withdraw material from the real hot rod community. And no, Cole, your's isn't a rat rod in my eye, it's a real hot rod. OK, so much for the real rat rods. Now on to the models, which I find is a totally different story. Building a rat rod model must be a very challenging task involving great skills in the weathering department. It perhaps requires more skills and creativity, than building a model of a shiny hot rod. More $$$ too, considering how many kits have to be bashed to build one. -
Why Did Figures in Model Kits Disappear?
Junkman replied to Casey's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
They came with the Dodge. I have it, too. -

OK, how about Daewoo, then? I think it's not day-wooh but day-woh. Kia is key-ah, right? And Hyundai? I think it's yun-die, right? And speaking of Porsche, I noticed that most non-German speakers also pronounce the most prominent maker of the wheels wrong. Fuchs is pronounced foox. Oh, and my first name is not pronounced like the religion. Its kris-tea-un. -
I had a previous issue: Like many of the Aoshima 'Vintage Car' kits, the body is moulded from an ancient 'can be motorized' tool with re-tooled chassis and interior added. The kit does not hold up to today's standards, but it can be built into a quite convincing model. Furthermore, which alternative do you see if you want to build a 78-83 Dodge Challenger?

The sad state of a multimillion-dollar car
Junkman replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Not really. Demand and what people are willing to pay makes the price. There were only 9 Crown Imperial Limousines built in 1959, yet one was sold recently for less than 35.000$. -

Not sure whether people take notice, but those Sno-Cats were Chrysler Hemi powered. -
Opinions on repairing paint bleed

Touch it in with white paint and a 000 brush. -
I know what that is like. Don't do a bloody thing about it, it'll only errr... what's the fancy word for it? errr... frustrate you. Let me know which currently available kit you would like to build and if I have it, I send it to you free of charge.
