  1. Thanks Dave, I knew something was up....Somone on another board mentioned a simialr issue, that the engine in the 40 Ford was a smaller version both physically and HP wise....guess I need to break out my 50 and use the engine in there if I want to have a flattie with the Thickstun heads.... tks again....
  2. Lyle, Thanks for those pictures....can I ask what engine that is they are on? I am staring to wonder if my lack of flattie knowledge is why I think they are too big. Maybe I am trying to put them on wrong? I will use some white glue to assemble it, then take a pic for some feedback. tks
  3. I am working on the Revell 40 Ford Street Rod kit, and decided I'd use these Thickstun head covers on this engine. The package says they are 1/25 scale, but they are HUGE compared to the kit pieces. Am I missing something, are they supposed ot be that large? A quick Google Search exposed no photos to use for reference, so here I am... Any help or light that could be shed would be appreciated!!!!
  4. I just received my 2008 edition of the Corvette Black book, I use it to plan my Vette builds. A week or so before, I opened an MPC 84 Vette and decided to build it. So into my little black book and I find there was one yellow (code 35) Corvette built that year. Usually there is some info in the book on odd balls, but nothing of this Vette.... Anyone have an insight they can share? Tks...

  6. Anyone know where I can have some custom paint masks made? Tks,
  7. Guys.... Thanks for all the tips, guess I gotta get to work. I think I am going to build a small one to test some of these suggestions. I will try and post some progress pics!!!!!
  8. I have decided that the curio cabinets in my basement aren't enough to display my built ups. I have decided that I want to build a garage / shop diorama for my fictional hot rod builder. I found a local building that I want to use a s a template as it will provide me with all of the aspects I think my dio should have. I also think these are constant works in process, and are rarely finished. Anywho, a few things I'd like to find out to begin with, 1) Walls, what is a good idea for walls? I was thinking foam boards from the craft store. 2) Stucco, how can I make the exterior walls look like they have a stucco finish? 3) Windows, how can I make windows that look realistic? Can I just cut holes in my foam board and add clear plastic? 4) Concrete, what is a good way to simulate a concrete floor in a shop? I already drew a layout drawing of the building as it should be and want to pick up some building materials this weekend. I already started a base from plywood and want to get started on the concrete finish that will be the majority of the base... Sorry for so many questions, but I am pretty excited about getting this thing started.... Thanks in advance for all the advice!!!!
  9. Oh, I agree, I have too many kits and decals not to find a way to "use" them....I have started to work on a fix too, so maybe we can compare notes.... Tks...
  10. Guys, Thanks so much for the input, I am happy it wasnt me. But now what to do with all those F/C kits....
  11. Guys, I am finally completing my first, yea, I know, P/L F/C kit and during some final test assembly I found a small problem. When I install the calipers on the rear axel and add the rotor to the rear wheel, there isn't enough depth for the assembly. What I mean is that the tire rubs on the suspension arms, anyone else see this? Did I miss assemble something? I am lost, becuase I have about 8-10 of these kits I want to build in different liveries, but if they build like this, I am not so sure when.... Any input would be appreciated!!! Tks....
  12. Guys, Thanks for all the input, I picke dup some of the suggest materials yesterday during my weekly visit to my LHS. Soon as I get something built and painted I will post some pics for critique.... Thanks again all.....
  13. Thanks for the heads up Bob, I can see where this will help.....
  14. I was reading Bob's latest article in the new SA about his build of the NISMO 350Z and I noticed that he mentioned using "Silly Putty" as a making medium. ANyone else use it? Is there anything special we need to know to use it? I can see the benefits.... Thanks Bob, or anyone who feels so inclined to answer me....
  15. One of the things I'd like to improve on this year is my ability to replicate aluminum parts with paint finishes. Last year I wanted to improve my paint jobs, and I am quite happy with what I have acheived in that department. So I figure it is on to the cast metal finishes. the other reason is since my trip to Germany last month, I have been buying lots of European car models, something that I have typically had only a select few of, but now have been seeking our more interesting rides. My most recent is a new Audi A8, so I figure that using a new "metal finish" method would be a good thing to try on a car with an entire aluminum drive train, suspension included. So, my hope is that some of you can share with me some of you methods of reproducing metal finishes, that will hopefully enlighten me and anypone else who reads this thread.... So thanks in advance, and let 'em ride.....
  16. Hondo, Thanks for the input, I finally shot some pearl white on my first, I am doing a Ramchargers version.....I saw yours and almost tossed mine in the trash..... Tks.....
  17. Picked myself up a R8 kit today, and want to build it in a factory color, can anyone recomend a source for factory paints? I saw someone by the name of Scalefinishes on Ebay, but they sell the paints in "pre thinned" one ounce bottles..... I am not so sure one ounce is enough Can anyone recomend another source where I can get more than one ounce??? Tks....
  18. Coming from you that is quite the compliment....Thanks so much!!!!
  19. Guys, Here are some pics of my last completed model.I built this as a display piece for my sons room.....Shot in Tamiya Mica red over bare kit plastic that was preped by removing mold lines and some paper polishing.... It was a nice easy build that, I think has a nice clean look.....I added some Z06 wheels and brakes from a parted out glue kit I have laying around Shot the interior with Tamiya Tan and Semi Gloss black, makes a nice contrast for an open roadster Used some pics provided by Ismael G to detail the chassis of this one, little bit of paint and some washses for that slighly used look... And finally some reading material for our passenger on the ride home.... Last but not least an AUGEDOG license plate, that is the nickname my life long friend gave my son. He clamis eveyone needs a nickname.... And as always, questions, comments or critiques welcome.... ps: yes, I forgot mirrored surfaces for the side mirrors....LOL
  20. Awesome....Did you swap the entire chassis, or just add the tubbs? I have been thinking about one like this for a while TKS
