Wonderful builds, all 4!
-
Thanks, Tom...yeah, I was kind of stunned for a second there! It seems to be not too bad on inspection this morning - the left c pillar breaks are visible, but not too bad, considering. The crack in the back window is visible, but like I said-it will be fine on the shelf. It sure could have been a whole lot worse than it was!

Mike, Terry, Sam - Thanks guys...it was a fun one for sure!

Thanks, guys! I'm glad you like it! It was fun to build.

Thanks, Virgil! Thanks, Tom - I just didn't straighten the wheel out before taking the picture - The wheel and Viper brakes fit the kit suspension wheel mount!! Just a bit of play due to the width and height of the wheels, I had to tub the inner rear wheel wells, and shave the inside of the body a bit. As for the grille, since the car is a custom, and the artwork didn't show a grille, I decided to change it up for the Camaro grille, as I knew I could file it from the back and open it up easily. It also fit between the headlights reasonably easily as well. Glad to be done, and I can't wait to see yours done, too!

A few more pictures: Enjoy!! Here's a link to my build album if you'd care to take a look. This was a fun build, and am looking forward to seeing how others built theirs!! Just after taking these pictures...the model accidentally fell on the floor-I could kick myself! I caught my sweater sleeve on the craft paper base, pulling it off the table, and it fell square on the roof on the floor from the table...I got it back together but the rear roof pillars are a mess-the left one broke, the right one crimped, and the rear glass popped out, and has a crack at the lower right...No other damage, but a few scratches, which another coat of Future will cover, and a couple of parts came off...the rear pillars look terrible, especially the left one. This will still look great on my shelf! EDIT: So after looking at the remaining damage, I was able to use a clothes peg to clamp the c pillar to the rear glass, and run a bead of clear. We'll see in the morning if it holds. The left c pillar may be able to be touched up, and may hide the repair not too badly.

Okay, I'm done mine!! Original Artwork that I was given at the start: Picture of my build (with craft paper black & blue to look like the photo): Slightly different angles: Used Sidewinder kit wheels and tires as the original caption indicated. Also used Revell Viper kit brakes, and the brakes and wheels popped onto the kit suspension with no issues-the wheels do roll! Used the Revell B-M '69 Camaro grille in place of the Impala kit grille, and cut the Impala emblem out and used the decal. At the rear, on the decklid I shaved and filled the rear trunk lock. I should have slightly shortened the Caddy taillights. These were in the kit, and just used Tamiya clear red for the middle pair as they were molded in clear for the reverse lights. This was the kit: The chassis-Rear wheel tubs cut and material added to make room for the lowered suspension and big rear wheels. Cut the 59 spare hump out and added ribs. Rear of the exhaust is solder, and aluminum tubing:

Here's my "Chev Fin" JWAC build done. Krylon White and Burghundy with Pledge with Future Shine finish, Sidewinder kit wheels and tires, aluminum tube and solder rear exhaust, Revell Viper brakes, suspension lowered, rear wheel wells modified to fit the wheels, front grille from Revell '69 BM Camaro, filed the back to open it up, and the rest is box stock. Here's the kit box" Here was the original artwork that was given to me for the build: And my model: Other views: Enjoy! Comments and constructive criticism is always welcome! (I'll also post this in the JWAC thread in the Community Builds forum)

You Say You Want a Spray Booth, Do Ya?
Tony T replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
So I suppose hooking up the old Filter Queen to a length of hose isn't a real good idea for solvent based paints... I used one on a make-shift spray booth (moving box, old vent at the top, filter queen hose taped to it), but strictly used water based paints for the reasons stated. For spray cans I go outside and use the hand held method - pretty good results at -20 recently!! Had to watch for snow blowing off the roof though! Safety first is the best way to go, and knowing the possible hazards involved with any product you use is a good way to limit the possibility of problems. Anything flammable, best to be real respectful of it. -
No issues at all. Refreshing!

Fantastic replica! Well done!

I finally got a build or two out of the way, and got this back to the workbench recently...did some work the other evening... Today I got the body, interior and chassis stuck together, and the grille and taillights into place...into the home stretch! Bumpers, wipers...and to find a pair of black plates-might have to make some...is about all that is left, then to take the final pictures!!

Thanks for the pics...must have kit for sure! -
I got a bit of work done on my build, finished up the interior, and the chassis. I did pick up a sheet of BMF, so will take a go at foiling this and getting to the final assembly. I'll try to remember my camera next time I head for the bench!
