AMT 1968 Mustang Shelby GT500
Musclecarbuilder replied to Musclecarbuilder's topic in WIP: Model Cars
I haven't posted anything on the Shelby in awhile, I actually haven't even touched the car in almost a month. I've been really busy and haven't been able to sit at the bench in a minute. But these past few days I've been able to work on it; here's what I've done so far. After wet sanding, filling, sanding, and priming a repeated amount of times, I finally got the car bodywork to perfection. For an old AMT kit the front bumper and bottom piece fit together really well. I painted the 428 engine with MCW Ford Engine Blue, the trans is gonna be a silver color. Finally I painted the undercarriage with Tamiya LP Dull Red to replicated the paprika red color that the 50s-60s fords had sprayed on the undercarriage, its a little too dark to be correct but it works so. ? Hopefully tomorrow or Thursday I can get the body in color. Thanks for looking! -
Wow thats amazing! You did a fantastic job!
-
Wow for using a rattle can that turned out great! I could never get a paint job like that with a spray can. Thats why I went to airbrushing.? Amazing job!
-
What kind of chrome did you use? If you used alclad that s probably why, it rubs off if you don't clear over it. Hope this helps!

Man that clear is amazing! What did you use? An airbrush or spray can?
-

Oh and your charger is looking slick!

I built a '55 bel air from AMT for a friend that was black. I wet sanded it with 4000-12000 grit polishing cloth than I hit it with the Tamiya polishes. After using the Tamiya polish I rubbed the car with Meguiar's cleaner wax that took out 95% of the micro scratches. Hope this helps!

Yes sir I won't! Idk if they'll work for the Shelby because of the way the taillight piece is. But they are definitely going on the '66.? -

Yes sir that 67' kit is fantastic! I've gotta do one of my dad's '66 coupe now. Your WIP on your '66 is inspiring me to make one too!? The guy I got the wheels from was called Canuck3D Models. -

I have a small update for the Shelby, it's been raining like crazy this past couple of weeks so I didn't get a chance to primer until today. I ran out of primer before I hit every part with the airbrush so its not all done but still. The body turned out better than I thought it would. It doesn't need as much bodywork as I thought. The 3D wheels look even better with primer than they did without primer.I ran out of primer right about here?Oh my paint came in too. I think its gonna look great on this car. Its a little more green looking in the picture vs real life but its close. Thanks for looking! -
Man it looks great! I love the sticker on the back window. So cool!
