Nice work on this! I recently bought an amt 63 tbird annual and hope to do this chassis swap on it. I would also help because the windshield frame is gone.

This is my take on an early 60s mild custom. I used the AMT 55 chevy kit, partly because it is a post car, IMHO they look better than the hardtop. The whole car was lowered with the leaf springs flattened and the spindles the lowest they would go. Ended up painting this car in a Larry Watson style paint job. This was also my first time using Tamiya acrylics, pretty impressed by their drying time (guess I'm used to enamels). For the engine I used the stock one but with the kit included hop up parts. I broke one of the intake stacks so ended up using some wire ferrules for them instead. Several modifications were made to the body such as some trim shaving, wipers removed, cowl vents filled, and all emblems and scripts shaved. The Radir wheels are from the Revell 64 Thunderbolt, the tires out front are from the kit, and AMT parts pack m&h racemasters out back. I ended up doing a lot of work to the interior. Started by scribing the door cards off, sanding the pattern off, using half round styrene for the tuck n roll, and lastly adding some magazines to cover up a tiny booger. Here's the WIP https://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/topic/201760-mild-custom-55-chevy-post/ Thanks for looking everyone Elliot

Yeah, I really want to get it but unfortunately I dont have the money and life is busy. First off, look for 64-65 falcon patch panels, based off the same platform and quite a bit of the sheet metal are somewhat interchangable. The 66 comet is based on the fairlane and falcon of that year. Im pretty sure you can get patches for the 66-67 comet by itself as well.

Love the color, looking good!

Nice work Bob, you really got that mopar front end LOW. I have never owned this kit so just one question, where is the differential on the rear axle, how do you get power to spin the rear? -
I think I've decided for mcw metallic green for this car. The blue window might actually work with this color.

Thanks man, these awb kits are pretty good building blocks if you make the necessary upgrades. On the collectors side, its a shame they removed them but you cant have your cake and eat it to. Besides its a pretty easy upgrade. Right now I am just stuck on what paint I want to do it up in. I was thinking either a metallic orange or dark green, thoughts?

Yeah, I dont think that works...

I really like the idea of seeing model related ads instead of the other, let's just say, interesting ads.

100% agree on this, most of the time I spend on this forum is looking at past WIP's for tips and inspiration. If we do that, a lot of great stuff from the "tips and tricks" section would be lost.

Wow, just read this topic. Looks like a solid car and a good starting platform. Insurance should be cheaper sence the vin says its a 4 banger. This project reminds me of my dad's first car, a 66 falcon that was originally a 200 6 car with 4 bolt lugs. He ended up eventually putting an 8" and 5 bolt rotors. I would definitely suggest going that route, way more options for wheels. Also an extra stud to distribute torque onto wouldn't hurt. I definitely eventually need to get a project car. I was actually at a goodguys car show with my dad and his falcon. Not many people know much about or are interested in the 3rd gen falcons so we were surprised when we saw someone crawling all over the car. He told us that he had a 66 comet post car (same roof line as the falcon) and needed to see some reference. The fact that my dad's car has only been painted and entire rolling assembly replaced for the v8, it excellent reference. All the panels are the factory spacing, everything opens and closes like butter, and no trim has ever been toutched (main part he was interested in). Interior has also never been touched at all. I would say he made a good choice for a reference. Anyway this guy was surprised to see a young guy like me so interested in 60s cars. He actually stopped working on the car after he got a divorce with his ex wife. So he offered the car to us for 8k. Rust has been repaired, built big block ford, all interior pices are there, and basically everything just needs assembled. Life was busy at the time and we have not accepted the offer, still busy now so its still in the air.

Yeah, its a shame what happened. He always had a positive approach to the kits and was straight to it. I hope the negativity doesn't get to him enough to make him stop entirely. I however like to have hpiguy workshop vids in the background sometimes when modeling. He is always the first one to have the new models reviewed. He also knows what he's talking about for the history of the kits, like his moebius 47 chevy kits he tells us how they were originally the galaxie unlimited kits. He even shows all of the stuff he has problems with and how they can be improved, for your and the manufacturer's sake. In general I like how much he actually knows about the different parts.

Mmm scrumptious chocolate

That chrome trim looks like it was molded on there. One question, is the drag city body based on the revell just with a flip nose sence the amt body isnt super accurate?

I think the entire search system needs to be updated. Using site:modelcarsmag.com works but it would be nice to have it integrated into the forum. I don't think I have used the forum one sence I found Ace's solution a couple of weeks into being on this forum. Not the biggest problem for me, but to the people that don't know the way around it, and still use the forum provided one. It would make it a whole lot easier for them. On the pay to minimize ads subject, it would definitely be a nice featur. BUT please still keep an option for free with ads for those of us who don't mind the ads.
