Wow, just read this topic. Looks like a solid car and a good starting platform. Insurance should be cheaper sence the vin says its a 4 banger. This project reminds me of my dad's first car, a 66 falcon that was originally a 200 6 car with 4 bolt lugs. He ended up eventually putting an 8" and 5 bolt rotors. I would definitely suggest going that route, way more options for wheels. Also an extra stud to distribute torque onto wouldn't hurt. I definitely eventually need to get a project car. I was actually at a goodguys car show with my dad and his falcon. Not many people know much about or are interested in the 3rd gen falcons so we were surprised when we saw someone crawling all over the car. He told us that he had a 66 comet post car (same roof line as the falcon) and needed to see some reference. The fact that my dad's car has only been painted and entire rolling assembly replaced for the v8, it excellent reference. All the panels are the factory spacing, everything opens and closes like butter, and no trim has ever been toutched (main part he was interested in). Interior has also never been touched at all. I would say he made a good choice for a reference. Anyway this guy was surprised to see a young guy like me so interested in 60s cars. He actually stopped working on the car after he got a divorce with his ex wife. So he offered the car to us for 8k. Rust has been repaired, built big block ford, all interior pices are there, and basically everything just needs assembled. Life was busy at the time and we have not accepted the offer, still busy now so its still in the air.

Yeah, its a shame what happened. He always had a positive approach to the kits and was straight to it. I hope the negativity doesn't get to him enough to make him stop entirely. I however like to have hpiguy workshop vids in the background sometimes when modeling. He is always the first one to have the new models reviewed. He also knows what he's talking about for the history of the kits, like his moebius 47 chevy kits he tells us how they were originally the galaxie unlimited kits. He even shows all of the stuff he has problems with and how they can be improved, for your and the manufacturer's sake. In general I like how much he actually knows about the different parts.

That chrome trim looks like it was molded on there. One question, is the drag city body based on the revell just with a flip nose sence the amt body isnt super accurate?

I think the entire search system needs to be updated. Using site:modelcarsmag.com works but it would be nice to have it integrated into the forum. I don't think I have used the forum one sence I found Ace's solution a couple of weeks into being on this forum. Not the biggest problem for me, but to the people that don't know the way around it, and still use the forum provided one. It would make it a whole lot easier for them. On the pay to minimize ads subject, it would definitely be a nice featur. BUT please still keep an option for free with ads for those of us who don't mind the ads.

Shoot man, that sucks. Looks like your making good progress on it though. -
Thanks! I knew there was something wrong with the kit ones so looked up a photo and sure enough, there are chrome cross bars.

AMT 60 Ranchero non lump frame

I know a lot of kits from that era have that problem, one that I can think of off the top of my head is the 66 fairlane. -
I got a junk 64 Thunderbolt hood from a parts lot. Ive always loved the way teardrop hoods look on fords. So I carved the scoop out of the Tbolt hood and traced it onto the 63s hood. Next thing to do was to mark out the area that will be opened up. Then drill it out and check. Then I glued the scoop to the hood and carved out the mesh area. I also had to carve the opening to make sure it was flush with the scoop. After some filling, sanding, filling, and some more sanding it was ready for a test shot of primer. After the imperfections were showed with the test shot I had to do yet again more sanding and filling. One last shot of primer and I am happy with how it looks. Thanks for looking. Elliot

I got an old Johan pinto funnycar today from a swap meet, the first Johan I've purchased (restored a sox and martin cuda). The thing is absolutely MINT. It's factory sealed and I can tell by the original pricetag and the markdown. The lady wanted $45 for the car but I got her down to $35. On ebay, a kit of this condition is going for around $100, and an opened kit is around $70. That means if I were to open it I would not loose any money and probably still make a profit. But my other concern is if the kit might be too nice to even open. Should I just buy a different kit if I wanted to build a Johan or a funnycar?

Amazing work, do you mind me asking what you use for your braded line and a/n fittings?
