Frantic Ford , Lil John Lombardo Mustang
FoMoCo66 replied to dragcarz's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nice work on the body, you can barely tell, I would have sworn thats the original length of the car. Also, what kit was molded in purple that you got that blower out of? -
Who doesn't love a mock-up? Let's see yours!

MPC coke Charger on Revell 30 woody wheels (goodguys release). I think i might eventually try this as my 1st curbside kit. -
I did a lot of work today since I was snowed in today. I had striped the body of paint earlier in the week, I have no clue what I used but it was a PAIN to get off and some still remains, whatever. I cut the body apart like the real car and even thinned the body down on the edges to make it look a little more like thin aluminum pannels. But the main work I did was finishing up the front steering, the main rods are actually paperclips if you can believe that. I think theres are some little clearance issue that still need to be taken car of. Otherwise, next stop, the engine! Thanks for looking everyone! Elliot

Thats must have been a pretty awesome experience! And he sure did, one of my favorite from the early days of drag racing, along with Dyno Don and Grumpy Jenkins (I guess hes pretty cool for being a chevy guy).

What did you see on the road today?
FoMoCo66 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Oh yeah, the snow storm that hit Iowa just stopped after it started around this time last night, I cant say that I have "seen it on the road" because ive been stuck inside. Perfect time to do stuff at the bench. -
I have a recommendation that doesnt involve decals. Have you ever tried using the bmf under paint method, it works really well. Put it on under primer and get as close as you can get to the letters. Then you paint over it and reveal it with laquer thinner on a q tip. This would require the repainting of your hood but it lines up just right with the shape.

This showed up in the mail today! This past weekend I went to the Goodguys Southwest Nationals in Scottsdale Arizona. On Saturday I got to see Don Nicholson's Mustang 2 pro stock car, and his great nephew, also Don Nicholson was there with the car. My Grandpa, Dad, and I got to talking with him about Dyno and John Kasse. My Grandpa shared the story of how he had dinner with the original Don Nicholson in the late 70s in Ottumwa IA while Dyno was racing the Mustang in Eddyville IA. Anyway, that was my 16th Birthday weekend and somehow that got brought up so he told me to email him my address. And this is what came in the mail today.

Wholy Cow! That's an amazing find, did the price lead you to believe they were re-issued?

Can we see some scratchbuilt frames?

This is a model that I finally decide to rebuild, and about time, it was practically disintegrating. I built this thing a little more than 2 years ago when I was just getting into building models. One fatal flaw I made on this model was I painted EVERYTHING separately and assembled it with CA glue. This means it fell apart on the shelf but this also means that it was easy as pie to take apart. I don't really want to redo the body on this because I don't have the decals for the car, but I know it needs it because it has a whole bunch of mold lines and the paint is all scratched ( if any of you guys have a set that your willing to part with, let me know). I first started by completely taking the model apart, but that wasn't much work because my CA to paint bond gave way pretty quickly. I then stripped all the paint and chrome from the kit with easy off so I had a fresh template to start with. I then assembled the big sub-assemblies to the frame and motor. I also sanded those big rear slicks to have more of a crown of the top like the real ones, that is something that always bugged me about unsanded slicks, the lack of a crown to the top profile. I also went ahead and made the front axle steerable, more of the linkage to come. Eventually I want to make some wire wheels with copper pipe and wire and solder it all together as found in this topic. Here is the model as I originally built it: Here it is with all the work I did to it. Thanks for looking, and all of you drag racing nuts that have a comment or critique, PLEASE do so! Elliot

Ollie's strike again
FoMoCo66 replied to GLMFAA1's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ollies, Iowa City, Iowa. They had a lot of the 64 1/2 Mustangs and the 82 corvette's plus other monogram kits. -
I wish. Oh, and welcome!
-
Oh yeah, that's look way better!
-
Or you could do this and just pancake the thing.
-
Wow, amazing work!

Looks pretty good, IMHO I think the rear axle should be moved back to look less like a tweedy pie with a turtle deck slapped on.
