It's not just models but working with your hands in general. With the reduction of music, art, and shop classes in schools and ever more reliance on computers (of any type) to do your thinking and interacting I see an alarming trend in the coming generations. Modeling is as much about problem solving, patience, and discipline as the end product, be it plane, train, or automobile. Young people need those skills and I'm afraid they're not getting them.
