  1. Great idea! Definitely keep the chrome bumpers and trim, I hated the monochrome look, but love the big meats and over the top engines.
  2. Thanks to everyone for the kind words. I stretched myself on this one as I usually build OOB and learned some lessons on the way. I am inspired by all the great builders on here and have more plans in my head than I can possibly complete.
  3. That is so cool! Whoever would have thought to make an Edsel into a racecar. I love it.
  4. Finally finished, been working on this one off and on since Christmas. I cut the back of the chassis off the Model King re-issue and grafted on an AMT 90's Cup car rear to get the truck arm-coil spring suspension. Decals from Cady, I tried doubling up the door numbers but the red stripe still bled through. Oh well, there's always something. Hope you enjoy, comments welcome. Here's the link (I hope) to the WIP http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=54419
  5. I'm calling it done. Could have added a few more contingency decals but I like the cleaner look, like it's fresh out of the shop. I'll be posting some more in the NASCAR section. majel, that's the way the headers came, I just painted the wrap with a flat tan. I want to thank everyone for their kind words of encouragement during this build. Ken, I'm flattered. If you try the 'back-halved' chassis make SURE your cuts are square! I could have saved myself a lot of trouble on this one.
  6. Clean, simple, elegant. Great job.
  7. I like it. Excellent job!
  8. Nice job on a difficult kit. I had lots of fit issues with mine, nearly every part needed some sort of massage. Looks great.
  9. Yes if you put them side by side it would easily show up. What I meant was if you shrunk a Cup car down to 1/25 I don't think it would be noticable. But Harry is right, unless it's a superspeedway or show car they are not that glossy.
  10. From the original post: "Thought I'd post my most recent build. Modified nose and wheel openings, fuel filler and overflow and flipped exhaust to right, added dash wiring, antenna and roof camera pod." Maybe calling it a 'build' could be misconstrued, but it's obviously been worked on. IMHO that qualifies it to be shown and admired.
  11. At 1/24 or 1/25 who's going to be able to tell? If you were building an 1/8 scale maybe, but even then that's getting pretty fussy.
  12. It's getting close. Trying to finish it off tonight, we'll see if the god's are smiling. Thanks for following along...
  13. LOL ! Beauty is in your eye as they say...
  14. Interesting subject. Everyone does the #71 K&K Superbird, this is a nice change of pace, and historically significant as well. Keep it going.
  15. I know, right? Hard to believe the 80's were 20 years ago!
  16. Holy jetpack Batman! Nice concept, great execution.
  17. Very nice. I've got one of these to do as a NASCAR when I get to it. Great job!
  18. I like it. Something different from the same old 'top-of-the-line' trim on most kits. This looks a lot like a pic (maybe a year or so ago) in Muscle Car Review of Zora Arkus-Duntov's 59 Biscayne. Talk about a sleeper! Great job.
  19. I'm working on the exact same thing, back converting the Fairlane 500. What did you use for the door frames, they look great. Excellent job BTW!
  20. I limit myself to 3 under construction at any one time. Any more than that and the ADD kicks in
  21. Wow! Incredible detailing, right down to the pipe clamps on the exhaust. Great job, thanks for sharing!
  22. This is too cool. Can't wait to see more!
  23. Born in the 50's, first car I remember was a '57 Plymouth. Then we had a '58 Impala convertible (that I spilled a McDonald's milkshake down the rear seat speaker, Dad was pleased). After that was a '64 Grand Prix (in which I learned to parallel park), a '66 Toronado, and Dad's '66 Corvette Stingray. He also had a '60 MGA and a '64 Triumph TR4, as well as a '48 Olds at various times. He was always a car guy and I guess that's where I got it. Taught me routine maintenance and explained how things worked. I remember making 8-track mix tapes (I had a recorder!), going to Frisch's drive-in, and stingray bikes. We went to the Indy 500 time trials every year, never the race. I don't much care for anything built after 1980, but that's just me.
