Revell AG Peterbilt "353"
kingiguana replied to mackinac359's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Tim, all I can say is wow ! Your work and knowlege of these trucks amazes me. Those trucks You build look beyond real. -
WOW ! That thing is amazing, You should have sent Harry a pic before showing it to us, for ROM. With the tight back drop Anyone would vote real.

Mini's Johan cutlass vs newage donk trend !
kingiguana replied to David@MinidreamsInc.'s topic in Model Cars
I gotta admit, I'm not a"Donk" fan at all, but this one doesnt look half bad. The paint is great, I'd prefer "normal" wheels, I'm old school Cragars, Torq Thrusts, Keystones, and so on. But as donks go this is the best one I've seen, in scale, or real. -
Sweet build ! NIce paint, I like that interior shot, looks almost real. Is that pinat Testors Root Beer?

Man, thats a beauty. Great color, and paint work, looks cool with the gold stripes.

Real or Model #139 FINISHED!
kingiguana replied to Harry P.'s topic in Real or Model? / Auto ID Quiz
The reflection in the wheel gave it away for me. It looks like a flannel shirt sleeve, and the camera man's shoulder. -
I used a wheel cleaner we have at work, its in a generic bottle, its made by Car Cleen I beleive. Anyways, its mor of a spoke acid type stuff, I stripped an entire tree of chrome in about 2 minutes. I sprayed it on. agitated witha brush, and rinsed. At this point about 90% of the chrome was gone, I sprayed a second helping, along with a dose on the back side, agitated, rinsed again, ALL of it gone ! I'd wear gloves if You have sensitve skin. I did it in the tubs at work, and rinsed my hands so no ill effects. And no damaged to the plastic, and even the under coating was gone !

AMT flatbed build
kingiguana replied to rronning84's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Nice work there. As for decking paint, I used a light tan and misted gray together, and then rubbed some black chalk into it. It gives a weathered look. You might have to experiment, but unless its a show truck, it gonna look used and abused. maybe some gouges in the wood ? Once I get my C-900 flatbed combo done I'll post some pics. -
Cool, apparently, this is a few blocks away from Mr. Rogers place. About 2 miles south, and just across the tracks perhaps? The trolley stopped running through here years ago, I mean between budget cuts, and the crime. Nice little diorama though, looks the bad side of town in anytown USA.

The Car-Toon Truck
kingiguana replied to Peter Lombardo's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Although I'd rather see this art done on canvas, or a wall. Still its very cool. It covers a lot of our culture. I believe more than one artist did this though, probably a lot of contributions from a lot of people. I think Family Guy was left out though, I might have missed it, with 189 pics. It would take forever to see all of it. -
I have no clue what that is ! In one way it looks older with the grille and headlights and bumpers and wheels. But, on the other hand the glass mirrors and door handles say modern. Looks like a mad scientist combined a Jag, BMW, A new Beetle and a bunch of left over parts. Harry when this is all over please reveal not only make model, but year, and what country or planet this came from.

Cool two thumbs up ! Thats one for real or model ! Theres only a few things that give it away. dare to be different !

What just happened?
kingiguana replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW ! that was sudden ! I just left and came back. I thought maybe my settings on my computer changed. Mmm, I have a craving for a reeses cup all of a sudden ! -
When it comes to cases, inquire about factory seconds, or used cases. I've heard of some deals on used cases. The seconds I've seen are flawed so slightly its no bid deal. I've only bought one case, it was from Mac tools, it rode in the truck and rubbed a blemish into it. I used some polish and, its like 90% gone if not more. I got a used case with a crack in the mirror backing. I cut down a piece of mirror, and slid it in the compartment, and its like new. So keep an eye out for deals craigs list and the like. If my models arent in a case they stay in the box till I get one. Dust is a pain to get off and out of a model.

Basic wrecker
kingiguana replied to Kodiak Island Modeler's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
Sweet build there, but it needs some grafics, like a company name, and some numbers, license plate. Nice work on that wrecker body. -
1/25 Galaxie Ltd. '46 - '48 Chevrolet Aerosedan
kingiguana replied to MikeMc's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Wow, this has got to be the longest review, with out a review I've ever seen. As for subject matter, this kills me,... modelers complain when the same subjects are made ( tri 5 Chevies, Camaros, Mustangs, etc, etc ) And then complain when someone makes something differnent like a 46-48 Chevy? As for the subject matter, I like it, a customer of our brought a 47 Delivery street rod in to our shop for a stereo. So when I saw the Galaxie kit on the shelf at my LHS I bought it back in 98. Of course I have yet to build it, along with all the others. Yes its not perfect, but what kit is? I hope to see more from Galaxie soon. Dare to be Different ! Go to a 1/1 car show and see the subject matter there, now lets see it in 1/25th ! -
1/25 Galaxie Ltd. '46 - '48 Chevrolet Aerosedan
kingiguana replied to MikeMc's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I'd have to disagree with that Mark. First this was a limited production kit. A couple years back I mentioned these cars on here and a few people had never heard of or seen them. Which really surprised me, since they were advertised. Plus a lot of us, have so, so so, many kits that are as nice, but also never get built. My ratio of built kits to unbuilt is like 10 built and about 300 or so unbuilt and or WIPs. I bought the Delivery back in 98 or so, and before I knew it I never seen them again on the LHS shelf. I bought the Sedan online in about 2002. Now I see them back on the shelves. I beleive there have got to be more of these built than what we see, ...at least I hope so. -
Prius Model Kit - Preorders taken
kingiguana replied to Hornistfuller's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
A Prius model? Once You open it,and start building it, it keeps building itsself, and then runs off the end of Your bench ! And it even comes with its own recall notice ! You then have to return it to the hobby shop,...................if You can catch it ! -
You GOTTA see this model
kingiguana replied to Tijuanataxi's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
WOW ! I remember building stuff like that when I was a youngin'. Looks like they forgot to put the tailights on till it was too late. MPC had a line of those Mild or Wild kits, I wonder if this is one of them. Or if someone cobbled this together? Either way, its a piece of model building history. -
The Lou Baney/Don Prudhomme "Shelby Super Snake"

What should I have for breakfast tomorrow?
kingiguana replied to LDO's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Bacon, its not just for breakfast anymore !!! Pig is good, pig is great, put some piggy on my plate. How about a breakfast sandwich? english muffin, with Canadian Bacon, topped with Bacon and American Cheese ? Washes down with Sweet Tea perhaps? -
Two thumbs up for each car,.....which is four thumbs up. I only have two, so I'll give You one of these, since they are both cool cars and the box art to go with them is great !

Ed, I think he means there already is the storage/tire compartment/box intruding into the bed on the passenger side. Ive heard of guys using the drivers inner fender well to make a new plain passenger well. and then filling in the compartment lines on the outside of the box. As far as I know I havent seen a resin converison for this, it would save a lot of putty and cutting work. I also wish there was a short box resin verison. The tire storage was onlyh on the Camper Specials I believe, since getting to the spare under the bed would be real hard with a full camper hanging down over the back bumper. Maybe someone else knows of a resin piece?
