  1. I'm sure that's their concern - but they're not making any money either way right now. You can't buy it, and if you did it might not work on your PC/Mac regardless. You'd think they'd want to monetize all that old stuff in the same way Netflix monetizes old shows and movies. Netflix wouldn't be too popular if you could only run it on Windows XP though...they're missing a trick by not having all this stuff available digitally somehow
  2. I haven't really had any trouble building up a stash of the 29s (got 10 plus in the stash now) so hopefully this kit is in similarly plentiful supply too...
  3. You'd think they'd just put them on a disk in PDF format and just be done with it...
  4. Guess it's practically free money at this point if the magazines have long since paid for themselves and they can just put them on a 10 cent DVD. Pity they've discontinued it - I'm hopeful that they'll bring out a revised version with EVERY issue, ever, and that it'll work on current Mac operating systems...but I have no reason to think they're doing that.
  5. I think so - seems like they’ve been clearing out anything related to Scale Auto at much reduced prices. They had that DVD for $40 a couple of months back
  6. Another F1 fan here - welcome!!
  7. Agreed - as long as one has the correct personality to to be able to listen to the advice, soak it in, apply it and figure out what to do if it goes wrong. Some people don’t have that in them…
  8. I've been experimenting (casually) with a kid's rock tumbler that I got at the Goodwill for a couple of bucks to do a similar thing (but with less mess). Seems to work ok, but the motor is dying on it so I need to find another to continue my experiments... I love that metal front axle he'd put together! Way cool!
  9. But all the Coca Cola kits are ok? Must be the extra caffeine that tipped Monster over the edge
  10. What does Hobby Lobby have against Monster Energy? ?
  11. I’ve been hunting for pics of his work, but they’re hard to find, sadly. I guess he posted mainly on Scale Auto, back when that was a thing. If anyone knows if he had a Fotki or a Photobucket, I’d love to know about it!
  12. I’ve seen @LoneWolf15 do some pretty good paintjobs with the Donn Yost method, if that helps
  13. Thanks fellas! I’ve never really seen this done before - normally the wood sits flush with the cowl and then the panel behind it recesses in obviously…looks kinda WRONG compared to most woodies, but I wanted to try it. I THINK I like it too, but we’ll see how I feel when it’s done ? More scratchbuilding fun today - not much in the way of progress photos because gluing one piece of styrene to another isnt that interesting, but we got a roof on this tub today… It’s looking pretty much how I imagined it in my head - looks better with a wheel next to it though… It won’t be THAT low when it’s done, but I like how it’s looking so far! Woodies are often kinda tame looking to me - I wanted to build something with a little more attitude to the shape, with some hard edges and likes that are a little different to the standard old surf-woody. Plenty more to do - thanks for looking!
  14. Thanks fellas! Shot the whole thing with Future clear yesterday to form a barrier coat, then laid down some flame masks and then silver last night as a base for the next part…the stripes to go along with those stars! Masking up over the silver for the stripes: Mixed up some candy red to lay over top, and then shot a fade of red from front to back, with it a little deeper and more intense at the front fading to nothing as the stripes wrap over the trunk lid, and then removed the stripes and added a little transparent black fade over the black to add some depth and interest: And, soon as it was all dry, peeled back the tape to see where we’re at… I shot a coat of Future over the whole paintjob so far before I took these pics, and once it tacked up I shot a second light coat of Future mixed with a burgundy pearl mica powder. Once that dries, I’ll shoot a coat of clear plus bright red pearl over THAT, followed by clear plus bright blue, then finally clear plus some silver and white. I’d really like this thing to sparkle red white and blue when you get up close! Still more paintwork to go, but it’s looking pretty so far I think! More soon!
  15. I dunno - wouldn’t fit a Silverado or F-150 in one of those spots too well ?
  16. They recommend warming the paint in a jar of hot water? ?
  17. Plot twist - it’s yours…your wife is going to surprise you with it as an anniversary gift! ? Spotted in the Walmart parking lot this morning…it has 1:1 versions of those chrome headlamps we dislike so much in kits! ?
  18. While back I ordered a Revell Model A pickup cab on eBay to use for a build I had in mind (and still have, in fact) and the seller just put it in a padded envelope and hoped it would get here safe. It did not. So, I ended up with a cowl, a refund, and a bunch of broken pieces - and I’m going to try and make something worthwhile out of that one usable piece here. I’d been messing with the idea of a scratchbuilt woody to fit on the Revell 29/30 frame and a plan started to formulate. First up, zeeing the frame some. I used a spare Model A frame rather than the Deuce, just for the sake of using the less obvious choice… And a quick mock-up with the cowl: I had a pretty clear idea in my head of how this thing would look, but it took some work to get it to look how I imagined. I ended up with a very slight wedge-shaped side panel which gave the look I was shooting for. Took a lot of washi tape to keep mocking up variations of styrene boxes on my bench though… That done, this evening’s project was starting to add the timberwork - I had the idea that instead of having recesses in the doors like most woodies I’d have the woodwork flush to the edge of the cowl, flaring out towards the back of the car. I made some little triangular boxes for the door pieces and then used styrene square bar for the rear portions: Plenty more to do but it’s a start! Tomorrow’s project will be making a roof…more soon!
  19. Check d my local Walmart today - no kits to be found. I was hopefully because they had the pallet at Christmas, but nothing right now….
  20. Both of those are best practice for any masking tasks with ANY products, IMO ?? Much less chance of cracking or tearing the paint if it’s still a little tacky when you peel the tape off - and it’ll end up giving you a crisper smoother edge if the paint still has chance to settle down a little after the mask has been removed. I painted this this evening, using acrylics - these particular ones are pretty high-build compared to some paints. You can see some of the stars have a visible ridge right now where the subsequent layers have built up: Soon as it was safe to do so, I was unmasking this thing, and my experience is that overnight those edges will flatten down a little bit as the paint cures. Seems to work for me (and will work with Tamiya tape and lacquers, or whatever else you find at your disposal too…)
  21. What are they selling for in stores? Did you notice? Another week later and that one seller who has them super-cheap still didn’t ship mine: Curiously, Frodo had died, which caused a delay for another buyer: But seems to be answering emails this week from wherever he went after he passed: Frodo is risen! Anyway, say all that to say, probably avoid that one eBayer and buy this kit direct from a seller who’s prices AREN’T too good to be true ?
  22. They do come up on eBay pretty regularly for decent prices, if that helps. Certain colors are more desirable (and harder to find) than others though…
  23. I’m looking forward to the Ted Lear episode - I always enjoyed seeing his work and wish I’d had the chance to meet him. Meanwhile, new episode!
  24. Got a Revell Vette snap kit as a gift a while back, and it’s only polite to build kits that you get as gifts…and I wanted to do a patriotic themed paintjob for a while so here goes nothing… The kit, on it’s wheels: The body didn’t take a bunch of prep - I removed the door handles and cleaned up some little flaws and imperfections but nothing too major. After another coat of primer, I shot a base of Wicked Colors silver: And then spent an hour or so laying out some masks that I’ll use to paint this thing: Those components will make sense as we go, hopefully… First step tonight was to cut out a bunch of stars and lay out a pattern, over which I’ll paint the first part of the colorscheme. Next, a little shading with some black: I wanted a very subtle fade from black, at the nose, to a dark purple then into a rich bright blue, so next up was a little band of Createx Candy Red: Then, Createx bright blue candy over the whole thing… …followed by an hour of really careful de-masking - tada! Tomorrow’s job will be sealing what’s there already under a little pearl blue and silver to really make those curvy bodylines pop nicely, and then I can mask for the stripy part of the Stars and Stripes! More soon! ??
  25. A bogus source is remaking long-discontinued rattle cans of paint for model cars and selling them to a reputable online retailer who no doubt has a long-standing relationship with the manufacturer of the real paint? And they can make these production runs of fake paint cheap enough that they can undercut the real manufacturer? This doesn’t sound very feasible to me.
