That's an amazing restoration. -
That's a great build of one of my favorite cars.

49 Ford Coupe engine question
The Modeling Hermit replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Rob. Your question is excellent. I've been modeling for over 50 years, and I learned a lot from this thread that you started. I never paid much attention, and just built all the old Ford kits according to the instructions. It looks like I'll be making a few alterations from now on. -
MPC 72 IMPALA
The Modeling Hermit replied to MyBradKeselowski's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a builder, but some unbuilt kits I have for the sentimental aspect. I'll never build them, just because I like to open the box and remember what it was like when they were new and corresponded to the new car of the time. Some I have just because I like opening the lid and smelling the old plastic. I don't have many that fit those categories, but they have their place. The main thing to remember is that the model was given to you for the fun of building. It might be nice to build it as a tribute to your mother (her favorite color etc.). -
WOW! That is smooth from one end to the other.

I'm looking for information on a truck called the White Constructor (Spelling?) from the mid seventies. I've found one site with a few pictures, that are helpful, but I'm wanting to model one, and need all the pictures and information I can get. This looks like a complete scratchbuild foreword of the cab.

What's the story behind your user name/avatar?
The Modeling Hermit replied to JollySipper's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
When I first started posting on forums, I used the handle, Otto Ray Sing, a play on words of a hobby I was in many years ago. A couple of the forums changed formats, and I couldn't get that handle to work anymore, so I changed it. I live in Kodiak Alaska, so I go by Kodiak Island Modeler, or on forums that don't allow enough letters, I simply use Kodiakmodeler. -

I welcome anybody that brings gold with him/her when he/she arrives, especially when it's packaged as nice as that. -
High rise manifolds
The Modeling Hermit replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Actually I was originally thinking of the 60s single and double carb "street type" manifolds that were often found at car shows, but I like the direction this thread is taking. A lot of good information for different eras is already unfolding, so keep the detail pictures and information for all the different set-ups coming. This just might prove quite valuable. -
I always thought that high rise manifolds looked cool, and used with dual quads, they were quite an impressive sight. I know that they were used a lot during the seventies, but what years were they popular? Why aren't they used much now?

That looks beautiful. It inspires me to get my Dad's old 59 Buick model out and rebuild it.

Sean, that was just meant in fun, because I loaded it up with carbs.

Absolutely amazing

It looks like a time capsule from 1952.

It was pointed out that the front wheel was pointed in the wrong direction. When I got to the shop this morning I had the offending technition repair that, and even though it only took a few minutes to fix it, I docked him a day's pay. Just in case anybody's interested, a proper GTO is powered by 3 dueces. The shifter is hard to see, but is an old shrunken head from a 57 Chvey kit. The question was asked about the headrests, and they are seperate pieces, but are included in the kit. Once again, thanks for catching the tire mix-up. I know that sometimes it takes a lot of courage to point out a modeler's mistake, but I do appreciate it.
-
Thanks for catching that. I carefully set those things out so I wouldn't mix them up, and still did it. I wonder how I managed that. I'll go switch them in the morning when I'm fresh. If I do it now, who knows what I might end up with.

New Guitar Day
The Modeling Hermit replied to philo426's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
That's nice. You'll have to come up and play it on my Ibanez amp. -
This isn't my usual style of build, but my wife got me the cool wheels for Christmas, and I "built" a car around them. This was a fun build, delving into some uncharted territory for me.

In my opinion, the best figures to actually be included in a kit, came in Revells 59 Ford convertible which still surfaces every few years. The worst were from the Revell 57 Ford wagon.

Car Emblems
The Modeling Hermit replied to Stang88's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Maybe I'm lazy, or just not a high quality modeler, but after spraying the primer coat, I hit the letters and emblems with silver paint, then spray the body color. When I use the polishing kit, I let the pads sand gently through the body color over the letters. It would never go in a contest, but looks fine on the shelf. On special models, I've spent hours and BMF'd each letter. What you use depends on the level you want to go into on a model, but I sure do like the photo etch route, but be sure that you have reference as to where the emblems are placed. -
Spectacular details and weathering.

New Dump Truck Project
The Modeling Hermit replied to steve7119's topic in WIP: Model Trucks: Big Rigs and Heavy Equipment
I did a single axle version of the Ford, by simply using the axle setup from the short hauler version. It came out looking good.
