62 Chevy "6"
The Modeling Hermit replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thanks for the information everybody. In searching the net, I've confirmed on big Chevy fact; sixes aren't popular. I only found one color picture of a six, and that was in a junk car and it was painted orange, probably from a rebuild. I owned a 60 Impala when I was younger, and somebody had done a rebuild on that engine, and it was also painted orange. Since those were the only sources I had at the time I was building the engine, I painted it orange. Now I see that I have an incorrectly colored engine. That will be alright, because when I display the car, you'll see that the whole car is wrong anyway. I appreciate all the work that you've gone through for me. -
Boring builds...
The Modeling Hermit replied to '08SEAL's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I ran into the same thing a few years ago. I wanted to try something different to model, so I thought I would try planes. I also found them boring, but felt if I just pushed through a couple, I might spark an interest. I built 2 or 3, and then went back to trucks and cars, and actually found that I had increased my appreciation for that which I do enjoy modeling. My foray into planes did get one of my sons to building them, and he loves them. I can understand why you're attempting to continue building, but once done with it, take some time to evaluate your efforts. -
Why do you build model cars?
The Modeling Hermit replied to nboldman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Because I can enter into my own little world, and forget about the forces of dayly living, also because my wife keeps pushing me to build. Why do people paint, knit, or weave? It's art. It's my form of creating in miniature that which I like in full scale. I've been doing it for over 50 years, and plan to do so until I die. -
62 Chevy "6"

Doug, I'm using the engine from the AMT 60 Chevy pickup. Thanks for the info on the air cleaner. -
I'm attempting to build a 62 full size Chevy with a six in it. I've searched the web most of the morning, and I'm now doing what I should have done in the beginning; coming to the forums. I need some pictures of both the front and rear mounts for the generator. What was the location of it and the power steering pump? I also need to know which side the exhaust ran down. Thanks in advance.

Exhaust building

I also use the K&S metal tubing. I like the hollow ends, and it looks realistic. -
How Do You Use Your Decals?
The Modeling Hermit replied to Dr. Cranky's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I don't use the original decals. The quality can vary greatly from one model to another or one company to another. I scan the decals, and save them on my computer. When I need them, I print them onto a good quality decal paper. This way I still have a copy to use if I need the same decal again. -
57 Ranchero
The Modeling Hermit replied to Phildaupho's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
While they're doing variations, I'd like to see a 58 version, especially a 2 door station wagon, appear. -
You did a great job with it. I hate BMF too, but the end result is worth all of the frustration.

I've been known to get carried away once or twice. Here's a 53 Corvette that got modified a little. I have no idea what was going through my brain, but shortly after this I was certified totally insane. This was a combination of the aforementioned 53 Vette, 53 Studebaker custom engine, and parts box tires/wheels. The color was competition orange with a clear pearl overspray. One that I thought of, but never built, was a 66 Cadillac hearse combined with a monster truck chassis, and using the skeleton from custom rod kit, that slips my memory at the moment. I was going to call it Deadfoot. I'm hoping somebody actually does this sometime.

It's looking good. Are you going to use the regular fuel tanks, or put one up behind the sleeper unit? -

Amp goes to 11? Anytime I turn mine past 6, the neighbors call the cops. -
Reissued kits

I'd like to see the Monogram classic car series make an appearance again, especially the Duesenberg dual cowl phaeton. -
I always said the "blues" and cars go together. Those are both very pleasing builds. I do think that yours would be more fun to chase Ralph Nader with.

I'd caught that and fixed it already. I had a good laugh too.

This is a 70 Torino Cobra(ish) that I built a short time ago. It's wired and plumbed, but I wish that I'd used aluminum tubing for the exhaust. The plastic was too thick to suit me for the side marker lights, so I drilled them out. Watch when sanding the tires; the tread is really thin. I just used a light scuff. The hood isn't sitting flat in this picture as I wasn't completely done with the underhood at photography time.

I'll agree with all of the "awesomes", fantastics, and "beautifuls".

Welcome. There's a lot of talent here, and most are quite willing to share it. -

I'm so glad that you showed the progress pictures, because I would have never believed that was a model otherwise. This is excellent craftsmanship.
