Scale auto renaissance?
The Modeling Hermit replied to Jantrix's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
As a newbie around here (easing back into the hobby after a decade's absence), I'm finding this discussion very educational and interesting. I'm among those who would snatch up a kit of almost any car I've owned or had a personal connection with--and for me, age 42, that would include various '60s-'80s station wagons and other commonplace cars, though I have sense enough to know a '73 Gran Torino wagon, an '81 Aries, a Fairmont, a Mk I Ford Fiesta, or an '86 Tercel SR5 wagon will never be produced in scale plastic. (Conceivably resin for a few.) Steve The Fairmont wagon is actually made by Atlas in HO scale, so at least you have something. -
1:16 Anyone?

I wish AMT would bring out their 55 & 57 Chevies again. They had a good thing going, and then stopped. It would have been nice to see the 56s added too, and then do the same thing with the Ford and Mopar counterparts. What I'd really like to see is a version of the 57-59 Ford retractables appear. -
That's just normal transportation here. Seriously, that's an awesome build and weathering.

1957er Chevy Bel Air - "Roling Restauration"

That will buff out. This is some great detail work, and shows that you've done some extensive research. -
Ya done shrink rayed somebody's car. They's a goon be mad. Seriously that is absolutely outstanding. That deserves to have a diorama built for it.

FANTASTIC!!! I like the blanket in the first picture. What's the story with it?

I've got way too many to attempt something like this. I'm not even sure which room I'd start in.

New Releases from Revell

Somebody at R/M has been listening to the modelers. There goes my modeling budget, and that's just the first half of the year. That 50 Olds has has been an extremely high priority ever since the metal bank came out, and that 57 Ford in base form...I will be building dirt trackers for sure. -
Gotta get this off my chest
The Modeling Hermit replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I too have made statements that backfired on me, and my attempts to smooth the situation only made them worse, especially if I was in a room full of women. I'm just hoping that others will be gracious enough to accept your apology in a positive manner, and remember that we all make mistakes, and use bad judgement. It's been said, "Let he who is without sin cast the first tire iron". -
These old Dodges had sad faces. Sorry about the glare. Lights are from the parts box. My printer has decided to be a pain, so decals will have to wait. I'd forgot to add exhaust bracing, but caught that before I had the hauler body on, so correcting that was a simple thing. In 1969, this would have been arriving at the track in style.

Anyone here play guitar?
The Modeling Hermit replied to SuperStockAndy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I play an Epiphone hollow body and a fender strat through an Ibanez Mimi65 amp and a Peavey Classic Chorus 400 amp. -
I'm preparing to do a 69 Dodge Charger for a load on a truck. I'm wanting to do a drag car as would have been raced by a local car dealer. In the early 60s, I think what I'm wanting would have been called Super Stock, but I'm not sure what it would have been called in 69. I've attempted to do research on the net, but I can only find General Lee or modern interpretations. Does anybody have an pictures from that era?

Body detail is being added. The Dodge has been "stacked". I used aluminum tubing for the stacks, and the mufflers are simply one size larger, slipped over the original stacks. The wheels and tires are AMT units as are the horns. The car hauler body is starting to take shape. More progress is being made. There's still a lot of work to be done, but it sure looks different than the pile of plastic pieces I had a couple of weeks ago.

This is my current project. It's a Dodge COE that's becoming a local Dodge dealer race car hauler circa 1969. The changes to the interior include air conditioning, sunroof, custom bucket seats & console, different gearshift, sun visors, oval steering wheel from 1959/60, custom pedals, and stereo speakers. I had too much chrome on the engine, and never could get a good picture of it. I took the stock engine and reworked it to somewhat resemble a 340 6pack. Here one can see things coming together.

Kenny-whopper Wrecker build

With all the chrome on these KWs, the Black looks fantastic. Thanks for sharing your progress pictures. -
From what I can find, Ford's L series trucks were gas powered, yet I can remember a local lumber yard having one that was gas powered back in the early to mid seventies. It didn't have the filter on the right side of the hood, and there was no stack. Other than that, it looked just like the diesel units. Is my memory wacky, or did some L series escape with gas engines?
