  1. When it comes to weathering, the important thing is to do research before you start building. Good luck.
  2. I don't have any photos, but when the kit was new, I had one given to me as a present. That's the only way I would ever have it. I don't know what was going through AMT's mind, but dents in the hood? The hoods on those are fiberglass; they don't dent, they break. That's just one of the flaws in a kit full of them. Save your money, and buy one of the recently released Mack kits, and do your own weathering. If you've never weathered before, you can still do a lot better than that mess.
  3. It looks great. I've built several of these and can second about watching for the window fit issues. My favorite build of these was turning one into a BelAir. I'd never realized just how many differences there are between the models.
  4. That is a beautifully clean build.
  5. That's an impressive build.
  6. I once had the opportunity to drive a vehicle with a fuel tank mounted right in front of me, and above the engine. It really gives one something to think about. I like your build.
  7. Hurst should have built this. I like it.
  8. Modeler's High=smell of old Plastic. I just can't get enough of it. There's something about opening one of them old kits and smelling that aroma, that just gets the imagination fired up. I'm working on an old Autocar dump truck now, and it's just like going back nearly 40 years when I built the first one.
  9. I have been modeling for 51 years. My first model was a 60 Oldsmobile hardtop purchased in Tulsa OK in the summer of 1960.
  10. That's even got some good truck pictures on it.
  11. Revell kits are generally more detailed, but with that can come problems. I noticed that some of my 53? Chevy pickups sag where the axles met the wheels. It's like the bodies are too heavy for the axles. Revell came out with their series of tri5, 59/60, and 65 Chevies that are some of the best I've ever seen. I especially like those that came out in the "art" boxes of the '90s. Their 58, 62, 63, the new release 66 Impalas and 49 Mercury are some of the best yet, however I wouldn't recommend them to beginners. I know that I'm probably the only one on the board that really prefers the old metal axle AMT annuals from the 60s.
  12. I'll jump in here with some well wishes to both of them.
  13. Danno There's not a thing wrong with your ideas. I'd like to see more modern "family transportation" cars done also.
  14. I've noticed that station wagon variations, except for some Nomads are missing from the list. So I'll toss some in. From Revell's 53 Chevy sedan delivery, a 4 door wagon From AMT's 51 Chevy, the same thing. From AMT's 56 Ford, a Parklane wagon A Del Rio from AMT's 57 Ford If Galaxie Limited wanted to get on the ball again, they could give us a woody from the 48 Chevy sedan delivery. I could sure go for a woody from the 49 Mercury kit (Revell or AMT). AMT, how about a wagon variation of that 76 Caprice? One could go through all of the model kits and add a wagon to them, but I think that the best chance would come from Revell in the tri5 Chevy line. I wouldn't be surprised at all to see a 2 door 57 Chevy Handyman appear in the near future.
  15. The real kick in the pants to our midwestern members, is that here in Kodiak Alaska, it's 40 and sunny. I am originally from Oskaloosa Iowa, so I have a lot of friends and relatives that I'm concerned about down there. The warning always goes out to those who are getting older about taking breaks from shoveling, but the young can also be affected. Take care and keep a watch on your neighbors.
  16. I could go for a 68 Impala version of AMT's 67 Impala. Bel Air/Biscayne version of AMT or Revell 58 Chevy stock 73=77 Chevelle from the old NASCAR Laguna kit Longbed and stepside versions of AMT' 60 Chevy pickup 75=78 Ford LTD Landau from 70 Galaxie 59 Plymouth from 58 58 Desoto fro 58 Chrysler 55 Ford from 56 Ford 55/56 Ford convertible from 56 Ford 55/56 Mercury from 56 Ford 54 Ford from 53 Ford 49/50 Lincoln from 49 Mercury
  17. I've got a lot of family and friends down in the lower 48 that I've been concerned about. I wish you all well and safety. Be sure to take plenty of breaks from shoveling, and look in on the elderly. Good luck to you.
  18. It sounds like there is some interest here. If there's enough I'll suggest a buildoff to the forum powers. I don't want to step on anybody's authority.
  19. Since we have people doing multiples, I'll add some more of my old ride favorites. 52 Olds 88 56 Olds 88 57 Olds 98 convertible 58 Olds 98 64 Olds 88 68 Impala 46 Ford 2 door sedan, mine had a flat 6 which would be cool in a model 55 Buick Roadmaster 2 door hardtop 72 Ford Galaxie
  20. I lived in Oskaloosa Iowa for most of my life, but I also lived in Knoxville for a few years. Most of the big teams came in with the full size trailers, but some of the local budget guys would use 5th wheel trailers like the big Galaxie Limited jobs. The latter very seldom had any advertising on the trailers.
  21. I don't know how many kits there are out there with "6" cylinder engines in them, but I would like to suggest some sort of a "6" build off. I just think that it would be kind of fun to see subjects such as a 34 Ford Coupe or a Bucket T with a 6 instead of the expected 8. How about a 66 Impala with a blown stovebolt? Is this something that would interest anybody?
  22. It is a totally different world from the war that I served in. When I came back from my "all expenses paid vacation" to the jungles of Viet Nam, I was treated like a criminal. At an airport in New York, my Mother and Father were there to greet me. Just as my Mother reached up to kiss me, some woman walked by and spit in my face, and called me a murderer. When I got home, there were, what I thought were old friend, that refused to speak to me. Thank goodness today's military people are treated with respect. I have 2 sons serving in the Navy, one of which is deployed someplace in the gulf. On behalf of them, I thank you for your concern and acknowledgment of their service.
