  1. That hood is really nice I will have to give your technique a try is there a more in depth description of the process?
  2. It has been a long time since I started thinking about considering the possibilities of working with metals here are some pics of some tools I found and the beginning of my latest foray into working with brass.this thread is intended for questions, suggestions and tips that alot of us have . I found a set like this at sears then found much cheaper at radio shack a different kind of heat sink again at radio shack this is a fiberglass tipped cleaner which can also be used to remove paint. I had heard of these before but not for soldering or electronics so i had been looking in the wrong place a handy tool when you need it. (yep I went to radio shack) this is the hood I'm working on plastic won't do what I want it to do. a frame and mesh before soldering and after soldering next step is to add those curved pieces(seen in the background of some of the other pics) to the forward part of the frame think tractor grille.they will replace the white portion of the hood and basically replace the "louvres".

Thank you for the kind words this is one of those projects that fell together and was very fun to build. In regards to the wheels I agree they need to go I am thinking some steel wheels and one space saver spare.
  5. You build some nice models! I like this one particularly because it is a replica of a car that has some actual meaning .great job!
  6. I converted the dash from right to left hand drive opened the center console, flocked the floor then dirtied it up with chalks, and stole the radio. the body is painted testors intermediate gray I used rubber cement applied here and there on the primer to simulate that problem suffered in the late 80's early 90's the rust spots were ground from behind then opened from the outside and weathered with chalks .the green door is missing the trim strip I added clips in it's place the dented door was cut out then copied with foil then dented and then painted I put a bunch of two part epoxy on the inside of the door for strength. the fuel door was removed and replaced with a rag. I also added some mismatched touch up paint in various locations . I built this for a club theme got this far then the meeting came so I never finished the finer details which will include trunk trash (the trunk is already opened up)littering up the interior a bike rack and that bike that is worth more than the car.I appreciate criticism it helps the process.
  7. Great Graphics ,it looks great I like the detail.
  8. So that explains the Mustang .Happy Birthday and many more .
  9. I am interested in scratch building especially techniques that don't require lathes and mills and other expensive machines.some useful items that elude my ability are tires and wire rims and window trim .
  10. It looks great but where's the heat?
  11. Nice .I like your clean building style.
  12. they are pretty much the same kit except for the trim just like the revell 69 and 68 chargers are the same or the 32 fords.
  13. I like getting body work done then test fit various sub assemblies .after that I have a 20% chance of getting any further.Maybe I just like the bodywork aspect.
  14. both techniques could require more than one coat of either color or both.if you are using a water based paint I would lean more to the second option with the dry brushing.the acrylic paint should dry within an hour or two at the most .good luck and remember don't expect perfect results the first time out just relax and learn from your mistakes .most new skills don't just appear they take pratice and patience .If you have any more questions ask away.
  15. if it is the pressure in the can you could try warming the can in warm water .
  16. one method would be to paint it all silver let it dry then let it dry some more then thin some black paint with thinner flow it into the recesses then wipe away any excess black touch up where necessary . alternatively you could paint the wheel black then dry brush the silver on .dry brushing is accomplished by dipping your brush then you dob on a paper towel to remove all excess paint until there is very little paint on the brush basically dry and lightly paint it on the wheel .hope this helps
  17. I don't know what kind of bends you are trying to make but a couple of options could be hot water or even liquid glue applied in the area being bent .personally I prefer putting wire inside tube much easier to control the bends.hope this helps.
  18. I am already there!
  19. Just thought it should be brought up again
  20. In regards to the the bad picture just turn the mustang around and show us the front !Congrats hope it is as much fun as it looks!
  21. great looking VW .I like your style!
  22. That is sweet.Great job making it look cool in 2 colors or less .I dig it.
  23. Thanks for all the tips.
  24. look around the craft stores or the craft department at walmart there are lots of options for upholstery from fabric swatches to flocking and even some spray paints .a lot of modelers use flocking it comes in different colors .The martha stewart line has some good options.hope this helps.
  25. post it regardless of the results . Read treehugger daves thread on spray can painting and you should be miles ahead of the game.good luck.
