You build some nice models! I like this one particularly because it is a replica of a car that has some actual meaning .great job!

I converted the dash from right to left hand drive opened the center console, flocked the floor then dirtied it up with chalks, and stole the radio. the body is painted testors intermediate gray I used rubber cement applied here and there on the primer to simulate that problem suffered in the late 80's early 90's the rust spots were ground from behind then opened from the outside and weathered with chalks .the green door is missing the trim strip I added clips in it's place the dented door was cut out then copied with foil then dented and then painted I put a bunch of two part epoxy on the inside of the door for strength. the fuel door was removed and replaced with a rag. I also added some mismatched touch up paint in various locations . I built this for a club theme got this far then the meeting came so I never finished the finer details which will include trunk trash (the trunk is already opened up)littering up the interior a bike rack and that bike that is worth more than the car.I appreciate criticism it helps the process.

Hardcore Scratchbuilding Question
randx0 replied to straightliner1's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I am interested in scratch building especially techniques that don't require lathes and mills and other expensive machines.some useful items that elude my ability are tires and wire rims and window trim . -
It looks great but where's the heat?

Need some kit identification help here...
randx0 replied to mustangman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
they are pretty much the same kit except for the trim just like the revell 69 and 68 chargers are the same or the 32 fords. -
I like getting body work done then test fit various sub assemblies .after that I have a 20% chance of getting any further.Maybe I just like the bodywork aspect.

Detail paint question for a 1st timer
randx0 replied to Dankidus's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
both techniques could require more than one coat of either color or both.if you are using a water based paint I would lean more to the second option with the dry brushing.the acrylic paint should dry within an hour or two at the most .good luck and remember don't expect perfect results the first time out just relax and learn from your mistakes .most new skills don't just appear they take pratice and patience .If you have any more questions ask away. -
if it is the pressure in the can you could try warming the can in warm water .

Detail paint question for a 1st timer
randx0 replied to Dankidus's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
one method would be to paint it all silver let it dry then let it dry some more then thin some black paint with thinner flow it into the recesses then wipe away any excess black touch up where necessary . alternatively you could paint the wheel black then dry brush the silver on .dry brushing is accomplished by dipping your brush then you dob on a paper towel to remove all excess paint until there is very little paint on the brush basically dry and lightly paint it on the wheel .hope this helps -
I don't know what kind of bends you are trying to make but a couple of options could be hot water or even liquid glue applied in the area being bent .personally I prefer putting wire inside tube much easier to control the bends.hope this helps.

randx0 replied to Chuck Most's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
Thanks for all the tips. -
look around the craft stores or the craft department at walmart there are lots of options for upholstery from fabric swatches to flocking and even some spray paints .a lot of modelers use flocking it comes in different colors .The martha stewart line has some good options.hope this helps.

post it regardless of the results . Read treehugger daves thread on spray can painting and you should be miles ahead of the game.good luck.

I want to do a model of my dirtbike.
randx0 replied to Corvette.Jeff's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I do not have a clue as to the larger scale stuff but in 1/25th scale all that is available are some seventies vintage dirt bikes.most recently available from revell in the desert rat a datsun pick up with a trailer and two yamaha again these are 70's dirt bikes so the most you could use would be the wheels maybe.there are some dirtbikes in diecast ,Zee company when I was a kid but I have know idea what company is producing them now. and hot wheels made a kawasaki dirt bike about 12 years ago I haven't seen it since. -
Dakar Rally 2010

thanks for the post .I wish this race was covered better on T.V.I love those big trucks. -
measure The doors you have around your house or at a nearby garage .if you want to convert that to scale you can do math or buy a scale ruler usually found in the train department at the good old hobby shop.I would recommend going with two stalls vs three ,in most well executed dioramas less is more, meaning you should imply things and let the viewer fill in the blanks. It should tell a story. The exception would be a back drop for taking photos ,but there again you don't want the background to be too busy .there are a couple of good kits to start out a dio like the one described. fujimi makes a garage and tool kit ,estes made a 1/24th garage a few years ago and theres one more that I can't recall at the moment.craft stores like michaels carry diorama kits leaning more towards foliage, water, snow and other ground cover.try to plan as much as possible before starting .take pictures of aspects you want to incorporate. these are ust a few ideas none are set in stone use what you want but make sure you post some pics of your work I look forward to seeing it .Good Luck
