Welcome abroad Nick F40 and JAFFA! Kasteer Evilone Diymirage Aaronw ######'n Blaque Willy Survive Texas Funk Jantrix The Madhatter damncranky allgosvo Zukiholic ajulia Nick F40 JAFFA Looks like 15 of us now, and here's the rules from page 2 of this thread. (with some added clarification from ######'n B in blue-from comments along the way) Read em over, and if everbody is cool with em, start posting pics of your unbuilt kits, or whatever you're starting with on Friday, August 22 in "On the Workbench" under "Death Race Build Off"--somebody want the honor of being first? being the one to create the 'DRBO' thread? ________________________________________________________________________________ _________ ground rules so far this is what we have (if every one agrees) objective: to build a car that could (or has) compete in a demolition derby type free for all race. armed with horse power and fire power the car will need to be able to destroy opponents it cant outrun? Curbside models are acceptable, if not preferred as it's all about external appearance the vehicle: anything civilian of your own choice, hot rod, import, american muscle, car, truck, suv or econobox, unbuilt kit, gluebomb, or shelf sitter to start with. as long as it is not a militry kit scale: anything goes? (i would prefer a 1/24-1/25 scale to level the playing field but that is just me) armour: home made or kit bashed, basically anything goes. build time: we start on august 22 end by december 31? Official start in "on the workbench" on Aughust 22 to conincide with the opening of the movie, with posts of what we're starting with (seems like plenty of time to me but this is my first build of too so...) records: i say we show WIP pics at every important step as well as one or two shots of the unstarted kit. i would also say we write a little biography of the car to explain the choice of car, armour and modifications (just so we can fully explain what we did to it) ________________________________________________________________________________ _________ Don't know bout the rest of yinz guys, but Dr ###### has got me havin nightmares with his fine tutorial he's layin on us with PAINKILLER -- that's probly why we're makin mistakes at times! ######! Dr ######! you just keep makin dat PK lookin better & better!

Been a long road to here, but here we am. Got this here little 1/32 scale Lindberg '25 T bucket to do a quik little build pokin fun at them donks, by puttin some 1/25 scale wheels on it. Tables weres turned on me tho, as I got into it, couldn't help myself and started detailing it to the best of my abillillity. The wheels & tires are from the AMT Boydington 32 coupe. They weres dechromed then sprayed with DupliColor 'Chrome' which weres then dulled just a tad with a thin wash of black acrylic and wiped. The body & grille house wered spayed with the DC 'Chrome' and then DC 'anodized purple' which dried powdery . Wet sanded and rubbed them down with a used dryer fabric softener sheet (see my signature ) then I added the flamy decals from the 40 Ford again, I think, then some Tamiya clear stuff...... Anyhows, got that purple shinin and put some Turtley Wax on it too. Scratched the front end, usin sprue and my brandy new heat gun kit bashed the rear end using 'discs' off'n toy choppers. Scratched the headlight buckits outa the ends of a couple ball pointy pens. Used a drinking straw for the scratched gas tank with hubcaps from a 40 Ford for tank ends, thanks to 84Vanagon's suggeztion. Drinky straws for them big honkin pipes comin off the coat hanger wire headers (don't think I'll do dat again--least not in 1/32 ) Whacked the air cleaners offn the trips and used coffee stirrers for da stacks. Popped one of them stirrers on the generator makin it heavy duty. Wired the Caddy (fantasticly detailed engine outa da box by Lindberg, btw) with 30 gauge wire from RadShak which were white, and I had ta paint yeller after it wered put in place . Used one of them chicken feather brushes and all went well. got an incredible day o sunshine the day I finished her up and got some very groovy pix--these last two are my faves I think I done learnt my lesson Hope yinz all enjoy the pix. Ifn anyone feels so inclined, they's 117 http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/uploads/emoticons/default_tongue.png' alt=':P'> pix in my fotki, of this here build http://public.fotki.com/V866/big-wheel-t-rod/

OK, how bout it, guys? I think we should accept old glue bombs, or similarlly already 'built' models as a starting point, like promos. I think the whole idea of the build off is inspired by what the guys in the movie did with already 'built' 1:1s, and anybody willing to cut and weld on a gluebomb or one of their shelf sitters is gotta have some really cool lookin DeathRacer that we just gotta see !! I say we accept RyanS suggestion and Ryan into the battle

Hey Diymirage, From the looks of yer 40, I don't think you need to feel intimidated--looks like you could do a fine job of a damaged DeathRacer. Great thing about this forum is that we all love to see what our fellow modelers do--from simple otb builds to superderailed builds. We inspire each other, which is great and at the same time can drive us nutz and right over to the LHS fer more kits meanin less time fer family and all. I'm planning on doing 2 cars. I'm starting with a 65 Pontiac 2+2 and a 66 Mercury Marquis, probly gonna have the Ponyack as the racer and the Merc as a dead one. The Merc will give me a chance to try some stuff on first before I tries it on the PonyAckAckAck......hmmmm, might be the name for my racer ! Love yer idea for a calendar . Looks like there's 10 of us now that ###### Cranky has said he's in. I'll bet Olle F will join us........dat makes 11......Nick F40?? is you in? Love to see what yinz guys come up with!

I think we should go with what The fartin Madhatter suggesteds- -buildoff coinciding with the movie premiere. First posts August 22cd--unasssembled kit(s)? I also think yer end date of March 1 is way cool, Eric. I just looked back thru the posts and looks like: Kasteer Evilone Diymirage Aaronw ######'n Blaque Willy Survive Texas Funk Jantrix The Madhatter That's 9 of us rarin to go. Aint sure bout Olle F, Nick F40, or ###### Cranky---you guys in on this?

Cool concept there, Diymirage. Love the paintjob too. I started mixing the HemiSphere dragster with one of these Focus's--man are they detailed Only thing I'd do differnt ifn I were to build this up 1:1 would be to put some armour plating on the floor and try and get someone else to sit it in and open up dat hemi --oh yeah, and stand far, far away!
-
I hearby solemnly swear that I, ######'n Blaque, agree with these terms, and can't freakin wait to start on 8-22-08
-

how about "all external weapons and armour must be handmade or kit-bashed" no just glue-ons aint too picky about scale, although I think 1/25 would be good other than that I'm cool with the rest (I can always build a 1:1--just won't post it )
