  1. Thanks, I will check those two first.
  2. Wow. I was happy to get the 6 x 10 room tucked under the stairs in the basement. It already had some built-in cabinetry installed when we bought our place. These rooms put that to shame.
  3. Great call on going with black for the wheel centers. I've got several sets of those and have never been overly crazy about them until I saw this.
  4. In the past, I used Duplicolor Filler Primer lacquer for pretty much all my priming needs. One used to be able to pick up the big can at WalMart for about the same price as a can of MM or Tamiya lacquers. It was getting hard to find then but now everything at WM is made by Rustoleum. Is there an equivalent to the Duplicolor in their line? Better or worse in terms of quality? I haven't yet tried hitting the auto parts stores around town to look for the Duplicolor as that was my fallback option when WM was out.
  5. I've fallen in love with dark grey on cars. I think that in most cases is looks even more sinister than black. Great build.
  6. Great color choice on a clean build
  7. Great looking color on that Nova and the wheels/tires fit the build perfectly.
  8. Good looking Stang
  9. Have had good experiences with: DPNM Steve Zimmerman mikemodeler PARTSMARTY There's a whole slew of others I've dealt with before I took a break from the hobby but it appears that thread is gone.
  10. Being a CMM programmer by trade for an aerospace supplier this stuff is right up my alley. We receive a CAD model from Boeing, etc. and engineering writes their CNC program from it and I write my inspection routine from the same data. We also reverse-engineer/digitize dies and masters on a fairly regular basis using the CMM to scan it and kicking the point cloud upstairs for the guys to build the CAD files. Count me in the crowd that believes it is just a matter of time before 3D printing is commonplace. I think that it will be the detailing bits long before full kits. $13 bucks for a set of 3D printed wheels as was mentioned earlier in the thread? You can easily pay that now for a set of Aoshima or Fujimi wheels. With 3D printing you could have a great number of designs available. Depending on how the files are set up one could be able to control the width, offset and diameter of the wheels and then be able to print exactly the correct tire sizes and styles to match them. I'd give up having to buy kit after kit just to steal a handful of parts in a heartbeat to have the option to print out just what I needed.
  11. I'll do what I can. I've got to track down a Dana 44 IRS rearend from the newest Revell Viper tooling to do the suspension conversion. It's the closest one in scale to the M50 they are using.
  12. I checked the diameter of the Aoshima tires versus some Revell Z06 Vette tires and they're not much different. They are also shorter than the Cali Wheels tires that came with the kit. I'll get them tucked up as tight as possible. I'm also using the headers and sidepipes from the Stars and Stripe kit which will help visually lower the Vette.
  13. It's a good day around here. One of the major reasons this project has stalled out several times was due to the fact that I wanted to do a full C5/C6 suspension conversion. There was a company that did a chassis conversion for C2/C3 Vettes but they never posted any good up close pics and never responded to any of my emails requesting them. I believe they later went out of business. Today doing some random internet surfing I turned up a company in Alabama called Street Shop, Inc. Their site is a treasure trove of reference material. I also found a link on the Pro-Touring site where an owner documents a build of their chassis for his '64. This is exactly the kind of info I was after to get this build going again. http://www.streetshopinc.com/chassis-packages/c5-and-c6-suspension-for-your-1953-1982-corvette.html Here's the completed '64 chassis but the C3 is very similar.
  14. The master for the crate motor is cleaned up and ready to go. I just received an extra set of engine halves so that I can remake the master for the stand alone T-56 six-speed. Everything will be sent off to VCG in the next couple of days.
  15. Wow, great build. I've got a '65 sitting on the shelf that I was needing some inspiration. I think it's safe to say I found it here.
  16. Great work so far. I may have to pick up a couple of these kits just to snag the wheels and tires for a few pro-touring projects.
  17. Yep, as Eric posted the LSx nickname is a general reference to the post-'97 small block Chevy lineup. This would include the LS motors found in the Vettes, F-bodies and others as well as the Vortec truck line of small blocks which are architecturally identical.
  18. Thanks all. Metallic Orange was a pretty hot color in 1:1 and in scale when I shot it the first time around.
  19. Yep, as has been mentioned, it's when you rub through the color coat into a lower coat or primer.
  20. I've had one of these for years. Picked it up at WalMart fairly cheap off season and even found another set of racks for it. I cut all the centers out of the trays but one. http://www.nesco.com/products/Dehydrators/Dehydrators/FD-60-Snackmaster-Express-Food-Dehydrator/session_6cbdb3652006/
  21. It's a combination of parts from the Revell '02 Camaro SS, Revell C5 Corvette and Revell Silverado kits to make a proper LSX crate motor. I updated this combo to the LS7 from the Revell 2006 Z06 and I'm getting ready to send it off for casting. You can find my thread on it in the Resin section of the forum.
  22. I want to try and finish something for the Heartland Nats so this one is back on the bench. She's about 90% done and was the last project I was working on before I stepped away for awhile. Had I not burned thru the paint while polishing it out she'd be under glass. They've done such a fine job cleaning house around here that I'll post just the highlights of my previous thread rather than resurrecting the old one. LSx/T-56 crate motor A couple of interior shots. Custom-made digital gauges and added some painted headlights to simulate speakers. Tamiya Clear Orange over MM Dark Bronze was the original paint scheme. Had a heck of a time trying to fix my burn-through so it got stripped. Probably black this time around and if I've got enough paint left over from the previous attempt I'll lay down an orange stripe. Otherwise, shaved everything and removed the vent windows. Added in some subframe connectors. I've got a long weekend with the holiday so hopefully I will get the body cleaned up, filler fixed that was eaten away when I stripped it and re-shot.
  23. I packed up some trades that I wanted to ship before work. The forum didn't come back up while I was still at the house so that I could retrieve the addresses. Guess they'll go out tomorrow.
  24. I'm planning to get the master out this weekend. Then it's just a matter of how quickly he can get the molds made up.
  25. I think we're far enough along now to reveal the caster who will be handling this. Manny at VCG has given me an early quote of $15. Given the quality of his work, the layout of some of the pieces and the freedom to no longer have to raid a minimum of 3 kits to pull this off I believe that it is a fair price. It certainly is in line with his other engine kits of similar complexity.
