1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
stump replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
C'mon already.......it's been a few hours hasn't it........................................... Chris, great work on that pedal assembly man......looks darn kool. Been enjoying this build the whole way mate.....even giving me ideas of trying my hand at one......some day. -
Hey Jack, this is one kooooool project mate. Would never have thought about converting an old Funny body. And I can understand the point of view by building upside down, so to say.....it's a good way to make sure it all tucks in for sure. And the project you stopped for this one......Looking very nice too. Subscribed.

63 Pro Mod Vette.......Updated 09/28/14
stump replied to 1320wayne's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Looking eexxxcellent Wayne, loving the colour/decal art combo. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the koolest I've seen....real or model. -
The 4-link is getting a lot closer. I fabbed up a triangulated centre bar, to aid in stabilization..It's not 100% accurate, but it should do the job. Here's the pics of how it all looks now. Once painted, it should look right at home I hope. Ok guys, when next you see things, some extra rear bar work should be in place. No time this arvo tho, gotta get out and watch the F1 telecast. Seeya all again before too long. cheers Greg

Hey, thanks so much Tyrone, Dave, Derrick, Rick and Scott. Ok, a little more detail regarding the front struts. As mentioned, I think I'll hold onto Jim's lovely turned pieces for the next build.......So, this is what I have been working on for this one. Front struts are made up from a couple of size styrene, with an aluminium tube in the very centre. 2 pieces actually, they slide beautifully inside one and other. The smaller has a counter-sunk screw glued and inserted. This screw stops the whole thing from falling apart. Functional ?? Yes. Also in pic you can see the top cap, cut from styrene and 2 small washers. I cut these from very thin foam, they are the bush cushions for the top mount. Partially assembled, the top securing nut is also threaded to the centre shaft. Almost fully assembled, just need to finally sort out the lower mount, plus some steering mounting points. And test fitting the rear shock. Now that I have the working "height" available, the bar work is not far off.... Continues.....

2011 USAC NonWing Sprint Car

Ken, I see another amazing build unfolding for us to ogle...... The way you make these monsters (1/8) come together with such finesse is a pure joy to witness. Subscribed. -
That's the spirit Harry, get back on the horse and soldier on as they say. You got it close enough to "finished" that you can get some pics...? I mean, it's not really my cup'o'tea, but a well built model of any genre is always pleasing to view.

You know, that's a body I would not have given a second glance........ BUT, man....they look pretty darn wicked when given the treatment, hey....I'd say, dive right in Marty, should be a kool project.

69 Nova outlaw prostreet Finished (09/02/12)
stump replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
More greatness..... I missed the beginnings of this build, but I gotta say.....I LOVE where you're headed with it. And I'm with Rom...gonna have to get a seat or 2 off DirtModeler. -
68 Camaro El General Pro Mod (updates 05/06/12)
stump replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Tyrone, thumbs up for diggin' in and giving it another shot man. NOT that I could see a whole lot wrong with it before, but you need to be happy with the results, within yourself. From your past work, I know you won't be happy till you nail it. As you always do mate. Look forward to seeing what you come up with next. -
With it all pinned in place, it really looks like there's something going on here now. Just a couple of different viewing angles, and one with the axle cones in place too. It don't fit on my jig with the cones in place. Doh ! And I made a start on the wishbone.....this is #2 actually....the first attempt crashed and burned. Now that the rear is connected, it will be time to start the rear most bar work. With the shocks bolted on, I'll have a workable zone to work within. Setting up all the rear frame work is going to take time.....I can feel it. But I want it to be right, and look correct too......So........... To be continued. Thanks for stopping by, hope you'll like how it's coming together.....be it ever so slowly...... cheers Greg

Hey guys, finally...a real update. I had a small package waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday..... Micro-Jim (MicroNitro) had made good his word. (insert 2 thumbs up emoticon) Jim's machine work is impeccable.....very neatly turned, precise parts..As many of you all know already. Each piece was bagged separately, in a special plastic bag...a nice touch. Brilliant ! I may still hold these for that next build....I think it only fitting that they grace a proper brass chassis build, hey..? I made the coil from solder, it will get a coat of blue paint towards final assembly. And the fronts as well.... Now that I have a physical 'part' (rear shock) to help with things....I started to get some action happening towards the tail...... The 4-link bars have been cut, glued and assembled. And attached to the diff centre..... Continues.....

Aww Harry, I feel your pain man. I probably would have just 'given up', had one of my builds been devastated by such a horror. It's so pleasing to know you are getting it back on track. This build has been great so far, I want to see it done. As I guess you do.

Great looking ride Mike. Nice blending of the bodies too man...did you re-pop the new body after you joined them ? Looks wicked in any case. cheers Greg

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
stump replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Chris, this is looking waaaaay excellent mate. The chassis is a rolling art piece, or it will be. Kinda makes me wish I could jet over to some of these Show's you guys get too....Would love to see this build in the flesh. Keep the great work going man, your #1 Aussie fan must see more. -
Hey, thanks so much for keeping the support coming guys, your very kind words sure are encouraging. This is only a quick non-pic update again..... though work has continued at a very steady pace..... Been scratching up some shocks/struts. Jim (MicroNitro) has some in "the works" as we speak, but I will keep those for the next 1/12 (TDR) build. And after seeing what Rom and Chuck have, a 1/16 may also come in to play at some point...........?? Thanks for hanging in there guys.
-
So true Daniel. Maybe it's a rule our sanctioning body should look into...?? Maybe they already have, can't answer that one. But it sure would mix things up a bit, stop the class getting stale..... We have a twin turbo late model 'Stang which recently ran into the high 5's @ 260mph (approx) Not sure if the whole car qualifies for ProMod though... GREAT write up too Rom, really helps explain heaps to the in-initiated.....and others like me.

1/16th TDR Camaro Pro Mod and Dirt Modeler mock up
stump replied to ratnasty's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Jealous much.....?? Yeessss ! Chuck, the mock up pics alone won my heart here....... Dirtmodellers parts look amazing too, may need some of those should I tread this 1/16 path....... I'm so pleased you and Rom have landed these safely. Both builds will be a joy to follow. -
1/16th TDR 69 Camaro Pro Mod arrives today 3/09/12
stump replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
OMG ! Saved my enthusiasm for the relevant thread. Rom, these new bodies look absolutely wickedly awesomely fantastico bro ........(thank you Dave and Tim) Your appraisal and honest opinion on the kit is truly appreciated, I thank you for that. Still yet to place my order, but I'm truly torn now.... do I go ahead with another 1/12 build, or get the 1/16, so I can build with you guys...?? (probably end up with both if my heart wins out, but @ 400 big ones, the 1/12 is still a ways off.... ) -
69 Daytona Pro Mod 1/16th scale updated 4/3/12 ..It's a wrap!
stump replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Rom, the linkages look excellent man, and truly add to this stellar build. That's a nice set up actually, great stuff mate. And the 69 looks good too...................................... -
Hey Dave, "as close as possible" will be as good as gold, going by what you have hand machined so far..... Mind blowing... The complete set (dominators, splits and brasswells) will most definately be on my "to order" list mate.

68 Camaro El General Pro Mod (updates 05/06/12)
stump replied to tyrone's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Hey Tyrone, this beast is lookin' hella sweet man..... The detail you master on these builds amaze me...I'm struggling with 1/12. Great work mate. -
Hey, thanks for the very kind words and wishes George. Yeah, was pretty nasty for a while. Thank you too Dalton. Well, as my luck goes...I had a heap of before and during construction pics of my seat. Downloaded them to my 'puter this arvo, now I can't find them..... So these will have 'ta do. This seat started life as a 1/12 Tamiya racing bucket, the old school style found in their Safari rally 240Z. I chopped the front edge off, and added side boulsters to suit. It will replicate (kind of) what a few guys are currently using in their ProMods these days... I have smoothed most of the "seat" area and will hopefully add some carbon decal to it when done. This is the "jig" I made up, for setting up the rear 4-link. Pretty basic, but it does the job as intended. Gave the body another tweak over the weekend too.....thought I'd better try and get that done, before I get tempted into ordering a new 1/12 Camaro from Tim. Need to save a few more $$ before that happens anyways..... More as it happens.....and thanks for your support guys. cheers Greg

stump replied to comp1839's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Hey Dave, nice pics there showing some blown cars. It was actually Kenny Lang's car which first caught my attension and got me started. Good luck with the build of Mike's car, I know it will be something very special...
