Bart is correct, TDR may not be for everyone, but if you want the absolute best, there is no better. A 1/16 blower alone is only (?) $19. Now that's the very large 18-71 Kobelco, street versions may be a little less. But this is the quality... The blower manifold from the kit could be modified, or just make a new manifold to suit.

Ok, so the seat isn't exactly co-operating like I'd hoped. Got the centre section cut and removed, then started to add the new piece. Only have one side re-glued at this point. This was the offending detail (upholstery and belts) that I wanted smoothed out....Getting in there to putty and sand was being too difficult. So I think I'll wait for my seat to arrive from Michael. Might still try to rectify this one at a later date........ In the mean time, I started preparing for #2 build......................... Coming (due next Monday, 14th) from TDR, I have a 1/16 Camaro. Along with several key components to build a nitrous car.. Not sure that I want to tackle the chassis in brass...as much as I'd love to, I think it too will be from plastic rod and tube. Easier to "weld" together. And from seeing Rom's great nitrous motor he is making, I decided to try my hand at one from plastic. The bore's are not to scale, though they are spaced at the 5.3" c/c spacing. They were stepped up in size by glueing sections of larger tube around them. It will be a conglomerate of makes, using what reference I could find floating around the net. Still plenty to go, and many refinements to take place, but this is what's shaped up so far................. Cylinder bores.... Basic shape taking shape...( ) Hope to get a reasonable amount more done to this later today. Still got to start on the heads, then sump and onto an intake of some kind. Hey Dave, how's those Braswell carbs coming along?? More on both as it happens guys, and thanks for stopping by. cheers Greg

Hey Roger, nice start mate. This will look kool when done.
-
I can just imagine the fun you had mate, thanks.

Agreed, fantastic news. I wish them well with the new style business. I believe they had some new 1/16 decals in the pot prior to their previous decision to close, hope they fire them back up again.

Great to see you back in the driver seat on this one Jeff. Definitely liking the transition back to the Camaro mate.

Yes Nick, I'd say #3 is the winner, hands down mate. -
Ok Derrick, don't leave us hangin' like that mate. Parts look awesome man, can't wait to see how they all bring the build to life.
-
Dave, they have to be some of the most awesome shots anyone could ask for, specially the guys building nostalgic cars. Nice work man.

Hi Michael, you could give this a try. Mike Garland has done a great job of drawing up plans for a funny car chassis. Hope this helps mate.

1/16 Scale Army Vega Funny Car - Finished 10/14/2018
stump replied to Mooneyzs's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Wicked work Chris, I found it quite handy bolting all the main parts together on my Camaro, as I had that motor in pieces more than I care to remember.. Plus it will save you any heart ache should some errant glue get loose during assembly. Stellar update mate. -
Scott, just a thought regarding discs. Not sure what the general acceptance would be, but the "carbon" cut off discs available for most rotor tools (Dremal etc) do look a little bit like a carbon brake disc..? That's just my opinion, but I'd like for you to have a look at some and see what you think. Now, they are most likely a little large, but it may be possible to turn them down, thus giving them a more "squared" edge as well. Of course, the centre hole would need to be enlarged too. Not sure what these are cost wise, but they might be a candidate. I was so tempted to go this option on my 1/12 build, but in the end I stayed with what I had in resin discs.

1/16th 69 Camaro ProMod 7/22/14 motor painted
stump replied to Romell R's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Rom, hope this is settling down now.....can't believe I just read some of that nonsense back a page or two..... And without wanting to stir anyone's pot, I think you handled yourself and this thread rather well......I would've lost it for sure. Now, back on topic..... I probably would agree that the use of your mill would make this a hellofaloteasier than it is, but you don't have access to it, so you do what you gotta do, hey. Yes, things like this (in their early stages) can. and do, quite often look rough. You can't help but get a little messy now and again. Man, lots (ALL) of my stuff doesn't get photographed in early development............... You on the other hand, show it how it is. And I'll stand up and back you till I'm 6 foot under mate, you WILL make this work. Having said that, I love where you're headed with this, and applaud your tenacity and willingness to do it in brass. Good luck Bro.- 245 replies

Only way to go Chris....too many distractions don't gel with model building. Take that from someone that knows............... Looking mighty fine though Chris, you're definitely gonna have a show stopper when you get done. Looking forward to more mate. -

10.5 tire outlaw Twin Turbo Mustang BACK TO WORK ! :)
stump replied to nitrousnick4710's topic in WIP: Drag Racing Models
Nick, you have taken a giant leap forward with the new chassis and motor inlet. Great work mate. As for the dilemma regarding injectors.... I'd stick to 8. Now, I say this only as an "ease of installation" point of view. Being 1/24-25 scale, it's going to get awfully crowded in there with 16. Totally up to you though. Just remember, sometimes just enough detail is all you need. Build on mate. -
Now c'mon Clay......you gotta know, when you're working on an awesome project like this, there are NO other projects !......................... All in good time mate, we'll be here waiting.
-
Looking good Mike. And I'm another who likes your kool workbench, that's pretty awesome. Good that you were able to add the lazy Susan, should make things easier mate.

Hey, thanks so much Bart, Richard, Romell, Chris, Mike, Nick, Clay, and Corey. Bart, yes, the ball is ideal for the tiny areas along A-pillars and the likes. A bit bigger one would be better, without losing too much freedom to move. And thanks for the tip on using the "snow" with CA. I shall be trying that, my pile is still here....... Chris, yeah.....I got a bit too brave a couple of times. (see tip from Bart above ) Not so sure about setting the bar high tho....I'm trying to keep up. Mike, knowing my rep for completions, I hope to change that with this build. Thanks mate. Nick, thanks for stopping in man. Sorry I've been away to check on your build. I'll get to it though. Clay, thanks for stopping in again mate. Hey, I need a good push along most of the time. No update as yet, sorry guys. Been MIA of late with too much happening down here....and work just won't go away.... Last night I re-started on the seat, as I want to get the brackets/tabs placement for seatbelts and other things all ready for my Dirtmodeler hardware. As I'm using an old F/car seat as well (modified) I was having heaps of drama getting the old molded seatbelt and seat padding smoothed. Several coats of putty achieved nothing.....but heaps of unnecessary sanding. So I have it marked now, ready to cut the entire centre section out. The molded detail on the sides will be easier to smooth, and I'll graft in some flat sheet to re-assemble it. Problem solved........I hope.

Joe, can you send those rears down to me please.? I'll send you some unstarted ones in return. Man, they look SWEET ! As Bart said, looks like you nailed the finish with the decals, great work man. Pleased you got onto Paul's motor too. I was looking at the pic (noticing no blower) and thought, hang on.....Joe's holding out on us. Then..DUH ! I remembered, twin turbo. Also very happy that is should slide straight in mate, that's a huge bonus. Bart, they are indeed the 2-part offset drive. I chose to make my own, and it's probably not as good as Paul's.

This is looking very promising Fred. Love the colour combination you chose, and the motor is looking good so far mate, nice work.

Unboxing the Revell 1/12 Shelby GT 500 Finished 5-17-12
stump replied to cobraman's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Looking pretty good there Ray. I'm pleased to see these kits actually getting purchased and built. Hopefully Revell can surprise us again if they go well enough. Got one here in my stash and I'm unsure of a direction as yet......was thinking Knight Rider myself...We shall see. Should really bite the bullet, get another and follow Barts lead below.....That is AWESOME !
