  1. I bought some regular old Bondo body filler yesterday because it seems that my lil' town isn't sophisticated enough for the good stuff..... does anyone have any tips or advice on this stuff???? I haven't tried it yet so I'm not sure if it will be okay or not..... Thanks for all your help guys!!!
  2. Sounds to me like someones just too lazy to build their own beautiful masterpiece..... or just not talented enough to build it themselves!! Bill, this guy aint got sh@$ on ya!!!!
  3. I took the BMF back to Hobby Town and decided to get the Testors tomorrow from Hobby Lobby seeins how its cheaper there. Once I try it I'll let you guys know if I like it or not.
  4. Do you have a Hobby Lobby near you??? If so, thats one thing they do carry is the testors foil.... They also carry a different companies foil adhesive, while I dont know if it is any good, it couldn't hurt anything but a few bucks to try. Plus they have ALLLLLL kinds of different chrome, aluminum, gold, copper, and brass leafing from quit a few different companies in the aisle with the krylon rattle paints.
  5. You must have just gotten lucky and ran across one of the older styles that everyone's been talking about.... LUCKY YOU!!! I was eyeballin the testors foil myself the other day. Does it shine and conform as good as BMF??
  6. The first time I put it on I still had the paint, so I took the paint off and laid down a nice frsh new coat, waited a few hours for my ACRYLIC (will this make a differance???) to dry, and then it still wouldnt stick. That's when I did all of the above. I saw the refrigeration and before I posted this I wondered if it was an old package.... I got it because they had it for $5.75 compared to the usual $8 to $10 I've seen for it on the net so I grabbed it up... It appears to be an original price tag and not a mark down tag as if they were trying to get rid of it. They should put an expiration date if it has a shelf life and that way THEY will lose money for the crappy quality!!!
  7. I just bought some BMF for the first time and am having problems already!!! I can't get it to stick very well. I've scraped the paint off where I need it and washed it with soap and water, rubbed it with alcohol, scruffed up the surface and it still wont stick well enough to stay in place while I burnish it.... MAKING....ME....ANGRY!!! Please, some one tell me what I'm doing wrong??????
  8. WOW!!! I wish it was the same today... I hear quit a few old timers say that this hobby is dying and I couldn't understand what they were talking about until I hear a story like that. THIS HOBBY REALLY IS DYING, ISN'T IT???? That makes me so sad. Either thats the case or the companies have just become so greedy that we will never see cool kits like that ever again. 20 years from now, we could be looking back saying we had it made then!!! How messed up is that????? I just hope this never ends! I dont know what other hobby I'd like to do except 1:1, and we all know how EXPENSIVE that can get! Just for a basket case 70 Challenger (my dream car) with rust everywhere can run up to and beyond $8,000!!!!!!! BTW, I will own one one day!!!!!
  9. EXACTLY!!!!! That one sentence pretty much sums it up!!!
  10. Until last night, anything I couldn't buy at Hobby Lobby I was ordering online and I believe that most of that is just too impersonal for me, but then again, Hobby Lobby is more impersonal than buying online. I also am one of those guys that likes to pick something up and look at it and feel it before I buy it. I was so overwhelmed by everything last night that I had a headache by the time I left. I was there until they closed. I would have stayed longer if I had more $$ and the boys weren't starving.
  11. WOW!!! I wish I would have asked first!!! When I was looking at the Squadron I thought someone said they had used it, but I couldn't remember. They had the Miliput but I couldn't remember what color Cal said he used.... They had brown, blue and I think black or red??? I wish I could remember. Only one of those didn't say it was heat resistant and it was for clay and ceramics. The rest said heat resistant and I was afraid that was gonna mean it was harsh or aggresive. Yeah I ordered another dash a few days BEFORE I used that JUNK because I didn't know I was gonna go to HobbyTown so I figured since I got one on the way I'll just try it and if it doesn't work I'll just go with the NEW dash on my next try... Other than that lil' fiasco the guy up there knew pretty much EVERYTHING else I had questions about.... Kinda nice after spending the last 5 months at Hobby Lobby with those IDIOTS!!!! I just wish I had a cell phone and some of you guys on speed dial so I could get INSTANT input!!! Kinda like the "BAT PHONE", but I'd call it the "IM ABOUT TO MAKE A STUPID DECISION" phone. I looked for the Testors Pro Red and didn't see it anywhere. Well, I'm learnin. One mistake at a time. Thanks guys!!
  12. Mine was last night!!!! KINDA..... I haven't been in one since I was like 11 or 12 and I was there for R/C at that time in my childhood. I know alot of you guys might not remember, so tell me about the BEST shop you been in.... I spent 4 HOURS in Hobby Town last night and my poor boys were with me. They loved it as soon as we walked in, but after hour #2 they started askin me if I was ready to go home or not, I had to bribe them with FISHING!! I also said if they were good I would let them have $5 a piece to spend and they immediately went to the model cars section and started picking out the MOPARS!!! They had to settle for some HOT WHEELS!! I must have picked up about 20 different things and put about 20 things back and picked up and put back!!! Luckily they had an R/C flying game and that kept my boys busy for most of the time..... I wound up going $17 over my budget and still didn't get everything I wanted or needed... I LOVE THAT PLACE!!!! They didn't have ALL the cool stuff, but they had more than I could afford. Got some BMF, Evergreen, Humbrol paint, sanding sticks, glues, Tamiya pimer and clear red, saw blades, and some squadron green putty that melted my dash.... MUST...GO...BACK!!!
  13. Hey Bill??? Can you send me a pic of that Dynatron stuff?? I'm gonna go and try to find some tonight.... I went to HobbyTown USA last night and bought Squadron Green Putty and it MELTED my dash!!!!!! I'm so sick right now!!! I even asked the guy at the counter if it worked and he told me it would work just fine!!! Everything else I asked about he knew so I guess it isn't that bad... He said he builds military so maybe that doesnt require him to use filler??? Also, is it #592 filler??? Thanks again Bill!!!
  14. Just went to Hobby Town USA and bought some Tamiya clear red... Can't wait to use it!!!!! Thanks for all the tips guys!!!
  15. What kind and brand of epoxy do you use Bill??? I need to get some more glues... I only have some of the super glues and a bottle of model masters model cement.... What types of glues do you recomend for all the different applications Bill??? I've been having a hard time with the glue selection. I dont wanna have to order any glues if possible.... So if walley world or hobby lobby has something as a substitute that would be great!
  16. Talk about resourceful!!! I think I have some here from a snowcone maker I had a long time ago. Do you spray it directly into the paint bottle for the airbrush??? I agree with the calling everywhere and getting some dumba$$ kid whose ripped or just too stupid to even realize he's talking to someone on the phone.... Its impossible to get good service anymore!! I went to Hobby Lobby and asked a woman if they carry flocking and she had to go get someone else and when they came they had to go get 2 other people as well..... NEVER got a good answer from all 4 people!!!! IDIOTS!!!! I know more about that store than their own employees!!! I dont know haw many times I've been in the model aisle and had to answer someones question that none of the actual employees could answer!!! Now how sad is that???? If I need to know if Hobby Lobby has something or not I just get on the website and look it up and if they have it I just look at what department its in... If ya have to go in there and ask you'll just get that look of stupidity and before ya know it, you've got the whole place tryin to answer your question!!!!
  17. NO WONDER I DIDN'T FIND IT..... I just looked up "Vacuum Form" and thats not what its called.... How much do they go for usually??? That is so cool!!! So mattel put that out huh??? When? Why? Did they make it for something specific or did they advertise it as just whatever you wanted to do with it? That is so neat!!!
  18. Thanks guys!! This build has been nothing more than TRIAL AND ERROR for me!! This build has been pretty much a stock build except some details here and there and I started in APRIL!!!!! When I started I was just gonna build it the only way I knew how, which is pretty sad when I think about it now, and that just meant puttin as nice a paint job as I could and making sure everything was straight and getting all the little details painted, like the fuel lines molded on the chassis and thats about it!!! I ran into this site about 2 weeks into building it and immediately stopped and started almost from scratch. I have been trying all kinds of stuff. I put some detail wire in the door panels, tore some racing seats out of a die-cast my boys had destroyed and painted and put detail wire in the grooves, trying to run brake lines, I have been trying to fill in the dash cluster so I can place the aftermarket gauge cluster in instead, and then theres some other small details like plug wires, distributer, fuel lines, and a few other things that I'm not going to do on this build because I got ahead of myself and cant afford some of the small things right now. This build is a learning experience. My next build will definetly be much better!! I'm just ready to get this one done!!! I love thepeople here!!! I can't imagine doing all the stuff I have without everyones support. ESPECIALLY YOU BILL!!!! Just about every post I have had, Bill has been the first one to help!!! I think its just because he sits there and waits for me!! He knows that I'm gonna be the one to ask all kinds of crazy questions and I know hes gonna be the first with a crazy answer!!
  19. I found that out the hard way!!
  20. What is the best way to decant a rattle can?? I tried to once and made one HELL of a MESS!!!! I had sprayed it all over the place, including my FACE!!!! It was a good thing I was outside with my sunglasses on!!! If I would have done that in the house my woman would have made me dig my own hole!!!
  21. Never tried any Tamiya products. I have went through their website THOROUGHLY and I have fell in love with alot of their stuff.... I've also seen the paints on your guys' builds and I have been dying to get some of their paints.... I've seen the smoke on the web, but have never tried it. When I finally get back on my feet that will be one of the first things I do is go buy a BUNCH of Tamiya paints!!! Its taken me SOOOOOO LONG to get as far as I have on this build because I've had to buy everything one at a time if I even have enough money left at the end of the week. Money SUCKS!!!! I've become quit resourceful though!!! BTW!!!! THAT MAZDA IS ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!!!! Is that a Tamiya or Aoshima kit???
  22. I was afraid of that. Do I need to thin it or anything??? That stuff is AWESOME BTW!!! I'll just have to go buy some aerosol cans for my airbrush. I need to practice anyway. I tried just pouring it on it last night with semi-satisfactory results. It was building up in spots and I didn't like it so I thought I'd better ask the experts before I waste anymore of it. Whats really sad is that Stude, even wrecked, looks better than anything I've ever completed. The nearest Tamiya distributor near me is about 45 miles north and I haven't even been there before (HobbyTown USA). Are there any warnings about the aerosol cans?? I know you can't shake them before you use them, but thats about all I know. The next big spend is definitely gonna be an air compressor!!! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP, once again, BILL....
  23. What do those mattel vacuforms look like?? I tried to find one on ebay after I posted this and there weren't any.
  24. Hey guys, I'm having some problems getting the Detailer to really stick to the windows. I tried putting on a light coat and then a second coat but when I put the second coat on I just pull up the first coat. Really need some help. Don't wanna waste too much of it...... Oh, I should add that I'm brushing it on and I DO NOT have an air compresser to use my airbrush....
  25. Bill, you always help.... YER DA MAN!!! I looked at the site and I dont know if there is anything special about the box, I might try to make that. I'd just have to run some silicone caulk in the joints to get an airtight seal. The only thing that looks tricky is the frame for the clear sheet. What material works best for vacuum forming?
