  1. I started on my '69 last Saturday night. I like the model so far as to how it assembles. The front suspension is a little fiddly, but it looks pretty good once assembled. At this time, I pre-built the various assemblies in order to paint them in their various colors. That 240 6 cylinder is very nice, and well done. The only major rub I found with this one so far are the feed tabs inside the pickup bed are very pronounced, and have to be dealt with before painting. I did a little research on the truck, and I came to a conclusion. The truck they measured must have had a few modifications and aftermarket items, such as the below eye line mirrors, which while useful, are from a later year Ford truck, and the rear step bumper, which is an aftermarket item. I looked at Chuck Most's, Mike Wikland;s. Sean Svendsen's and Steve Goldman's builds of these trucks, and they are giving me an idea of the direction I am going to take on my build. I only wish that Mobieus had included the chromed small rear view mirrors and the chromed smooth rear bumper with the '69.
  2. So do I. I think it is drop dead gorgeous!!!! By the way the others are excellent too.
  3. I just got mine in today, and looked it over. I am very impressed. One of the best kits I've seen. I have to do my research, and I will write a review on it. Who knows, I may build it right away.
  4. I plan to do a '66 Thunderbird 2 door hardtop out of a convertible kit. I have a junker '65 2 door hardtop where I can steal the roof from.
  5. My uncle told me that the radios are fully functional. I'll see, and I have a can of compressed air. The radio units look surprisingly clean on both of them. I have an interior tub and a chassis in my junk box for both of them, even though I would rather them be radios.
  6. Earlier this week, I paid a visit to my uncle, who is the patriarch of our family. When I was a kid, he would get a new Thunderbird every few years from 1962 through 1970. It worked out pretty good for me, as his salesman, who was also a good friend, would give him promo when he visited the dealership for service, or when he was buying a new car. He kept a few, but he also gave me a few of the promos, which of course I played with, or modified as a budding model builder. I really liked the cars he had, and I intended to have all of them in scale. One of the models I built as an adult, was a replica of his 1965 Convertible, which was Prairie Bronze, with a black interior. I reproduced this one in scale several years ago. I decided to give him the car for Father's Day several months ago, so I installed an engine (it was a curbside), and gave it to him when I visited him and my aunt Tuesday of this week. He and my aunt really got a kick out of it. They are both in their 80's and don't get around like they used to. Being the nice guy that he is, my uncle went to his man cave, and brought up four old promos from the '60's. A 1964 Convertible A 1964 Hardtop A 1965 Hardtop Radio and a 1968 Hardtop Radio They all were down in the cave for over 40 years, and I truly think he forgot about them, and remembered about them when I gave him the '65. He gave me all of them, but I told him that they will be restored, and returned to him in about a year. Fortunately all of them are complete, just extremely dirty. I asked him did he want them returned as promos, or can I paint them? He told me to do my thing. The plan is to clean, and re-do the chrome on all of them. The '64 Convertible will be repainted Light Blue Metallic, with the Light Blue Metallic interior, as his '64 Convertible was that color combination. It will be fixed, and the trim will be done in Bare Metal. The '64 Hardtop will be painted in his Favorite Football Team's Color Combination, Burgundy, with a Gold Interior, and Bare Metal trim. He has been a season ticket holder of the Washington Redskins for as long as I can remember, and is a rabid fan. The '65 Hardtop Radio will be restored as it is. The '68 Hardtop Radio will be painted and trimmed out like his '68 Landau, which was Pale Blue, with a Dark Blue Vinyl Roof, and Bare Metal foil trim. This '66 was in pretty bad shape when I got it, but I was able to bring it back to life. I have a replacement '65 Convertible to put in my collection, and yes I will do it in Prairie Bronze, with a Black interior and up top, like my uncle's car. He is the last link to my past, and I love him as if he were my Dad.
  7. Another winner Al!!!!
  8. Very Nice Al. You know I love those suicide door Lincoln Continentals.
  9. Beautiful.
  10. without seeing the parts, I would believe that they are the same parts.
  11. Yeah I bought one of those '70 Cadillac DeVille Convertibles, and it is BAD!!!! Can it be built? Yes, but it will take all of my modeling skill to make this thing work. Fortunately, I have an unbuilt Johan '70 Coupe de Ville to take measurements off of. The only good thing about this thing is that it can be ground down, and The Modelhaus has the chrome bumpers, wheels, and tail lights.
  12. This is as close as I can get. The others in this section are exquisite.
  13. As Dirty Harry once said..."Every man has got to know his limitations." I know mine, and with the onset of arthritis, and declining vision, My best work is behind me. I do the best I can, and build the best models I can do within my limitations. Fortunately, I know a few short cuts, and I have a few tools and supplies which aid in my building. I build for myself, and I am happy to share my work with others. And I am not too proud to take constructive criticism and suggestions on how to improve my builds.
  14. I have a couple of the original AMT annuals in my stash. I plan to do a comparo between the two dimensionally, as well as an AMT '65 Malibu SS, and the '64 Cutlass, and I will tell you what I end up with. The PL body looks a bit squat, but it may be more correct than the old AMT annual, which looks sleeker to my eyes. I want to do a very nice '65 Chevelle SS. I have a built-up AMT '65 Craftsman, that I may cut the hood open, and slip a detailed under hood area, chassis and drive train in it. If I do not get any satisfaction from my Revell '65. I want to do a small block car (327/365 fuelie from the skunk works)
  15. I really like that one. I built a '63 years ago that looks similar. I drove a beige one in high school. Other than the atrocious gas mileage, it was not a bad car.
  16. This '69 was a true cold blooded wreck when I got it, but after a lot of work... I have to bring these back to life... One of these '65's may get turned into a convertible.
