How often do you visit Hobby Lobby?
Eshaver replied to dantewallace's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Dante, Hobby Lobby for me is a 35 mile trip just one way . Considering that at least in the Craft lines , I have TWO Michael's , I can't justify the traffic and the congestion of the Short Pump near Richmond store . Hey, I used to hate Westhimer road in Houston . Richmond Virginia's far west Broad street pales in comparison .................. -
Revell/Model King '57 Ford police cars
Eshaver replied to charlie8575's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I noticed that the decal sheet provides for Texas hiway patrol, uh known as Public safety here in Texas . I happen to own a ex 1953 Ford that really was a DPS vehicle . The Top lights were just that, kinda like a typical Los Angles Police department set up until they went rotating light bar . The sirens were underhood and actuated via a foot operated switch that resembled a foot operated light dimmer . Cars were Black for Dallas City, Richardson, a suburb city of Dallas and White in Ft Worth . Only the D P S cars had the White doors .............. -

Chrome plating plastic?
Eshaver replied to wvrailfan's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Mr. G's in Ft Worth is a full size automobile chrome plaiting company ..................... -
Generally, since I do exhibit work, I use the High Build Duplicolor Grey Primer. As to testor's One Coat colors , I have no problems with them what so ever . Just watch out using it over most Model master paints . I have had some problems in the "Wet Look " Clear . If you shoot it LIGHT for a couple of coats , no problems .

Most Swoopy car to you ?
Eshaver replied to Greg Myers's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Gee, I'm having a tough time on this one . I see "Experimental cars , Prototypes built to run a race and then real practical street cars . In the Experimental , uh Chevrolet's Astro I . In the Lemans category, uh Ford's G T 40 , In the street category , a 1967 Chevrolet Impala hardtop -
Quick question about contest judging...
Eshaver replied to Rick's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Harry brings up a great point , especially in ANY I P M S contest . Yeah, I'm constantly "Downing " da Propeller heads . Still, when you enter an event like this .look for every conceivable flaw you can . Heck the airplane guys think were no place anyway ....................... -
I wish Generic Motas could still build "OVER" engineered cars like this again. I say that cause if ya look under the hood, notice the steering gear , the heavy trans axle . Great workmanship on this car too !

Whats the most you would spend on a model.?
Eshaver replied to slusher's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Although the question needs to be narrowed , well to me anyway. Normally, I'm like a few that have already chimed in . I just won't buy an Out of production kit . Oh there have been a couple of exceptions . I bought a 61 Buick Special that had been partially assembled four years ago that was advertised at 50.00. I bargained the guy to 30.00. He was desperate and he needed gas money home . I do not under ANY CIRCUMSTANCES USE EVIL BAY OR KRAK LIST . The old kits I have bought are in person and at shows . Now , depending upon the retail shelf price of a given kit , I try anymore to only buy at the shows and even then, only if a kit can be had at a truly better price . We lost our last "REAL " hobby store back last June . It's a free for all now . Thankfully, I'm pretty well stocked with enough Ever Green and Plastruct to do at least two more decent dioramas . After that , hummmmmmm, I guess I'll have to bite the bullet and order my Plastruct from whom ever will sell it to me . -
GEE, this one really is "EXCITEMENT " !!!!!!!!!!

1956 Plymouth Belvedere - Finished Class of '56 Entry #2
Eshaver replied to Ramfins59's topic in Model Cars
So Richard, are you doing all of these vintage cars to display as a group ? -
I've been involved in automobiles for most of my life . When I was coming along, people were still putting Cadillac engines in Studebakers . I've done a couple of Oldsmobile engines in some early 60's Chevrolet trucks . The reason I hear at cruises about the Chevrolet is low cost , interchangeability and availability . Right now , I'm back trying to price out rebuild parts for a Mercury Flathead . The cost is out there in the same league one pays to build a 460 Ford . Sure , I could buy a common 350 Chevrolet an look like everyone else . I'ts not happening ..................

Foam core is relatively in expensive , looks like you already found that out . You seem to have a good deal of imagination , use that too. If you look around , a lot can be had for little or no money out of pocket . I think you'll do fine !

From someone who has knowledge of Ford trucks and a scratch builder, you really have done an outstanding job! Looks as though you might have spent quite a bit of time in a Ford "Big Job" parts catalogue too. -
James , I do archectural models professionally .................

James , I use the Clear plastic from food containers that have say Vacuum formed tops . Uh like the Birthday cake tops that are commonly found at Kroger , Food Lion , and Winn Dixie . That plastic is ever bit of .025- .030, CLEAR, and it glues down real nice with 5 minute epoxy . If you make a mistake and get it out , let it dry first . Now , with a ROUND tooth pick, take it and you can scrape the excess off with out damage to anything . Besides , it's plastic that otherwise gets tossed into the trash . Uh give George 53 the credit on this one ..............
