Ever wonder about Dr. Cranky
diymirage replied to Mercman's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
thats a great looking bike i actually graduated up from a yamaha (88 DT50LC) that was also a great little bike but nothing like the KDX for some reason i had that yama' for 2 years and didnt get pulled over once the KDX i cant take out of the garage without getting pulled over i added indicators to it (not that i need them to be street legal but just to look more the part) and they STILL hound me -

the first car i bought when i came to this country was a 94 mitsubishi mirage i didnt have any money to make any modifications so i made do with cheap junkyard parts that i modified myself (Do It Yourself) so when i joined the mirage performance forums i came up with the screen name DIYmirage heres a shot of the car, hood scoop from a subaru impreza front bumper from a mitsubishi eclipse (had to resculp the headlight sections of the bumper to make it fit) aftermarket side skirts from a 97 eclipse, also needed some extensive fiberglass work in the rear section not that i was new to this home made car modding, before the mirage i owned a opel kadett (pontiac lemans) with a homegrown sheet metal body kit and hoodscoops from a rover as for my avatar, that a model car i build for the wife a few years ago (thats her on the hood) -

to the best of my knowledge he didnt see me pop any wheelies oh, and i wasnt on the freeway, just a road on the outskirts of town but i can understand how it doesnt look street legal and on top of that its a two stroker so it probably doesnt sound street legal iether...but it is -

yeah but it will be a slow ride...remember the powerded donut comment? today i went to run an errand, no more then 2 miles round trip and guess who i ran into ? didnt get a ticket since the bike IS street legal but he did want to see all the documentations proving that -
looks good i used the same kit for my garage, but i made the floor and walls myself, using the tools from the kits to make it more realistic as you can tell i still need to install the door

if you'd allow me to share a quick story about my dad Doc. i was 16 years old, a snot nosed little punk who knew everything about anything and dad was only good for money, that old geezer didnt know squat well, dad was kind enough to drive me out to this guys house where i was going to buy my first bike...nothing to special, a mid 80s honda MTX, street legal dirtbike up untill this point i had only driven bikes with centrifugal clutches and variomatic transmission, nothing with an actual clutch lever when we got to the house i couldnt believe my eyes, this bike was every little kids dream, big knobbie tires, loud exhaust and a 5 speed tranny i got on it and stalled it 6-7 times in a row, i just couldnt ride the darn thing the old man looked at me and said, let me try that once he hopped on, dropped it in first, popped a wheelie, shifted into second, dropped the front back down and hit third before the end of the street i think it was that exact moment i realised...maybe the old man does know a thing or two -
the real car was indeed a regular fully restored plum crazy purple 440 charger they added the rear window form a corvair (i believe) to make it look like a daytona as for the wheels, they are pretty standard cragars if im not mistaking (but the back ones are deeper) also, one of the fronts is a steelie ? i have seen several nicely build models of this car and im actually gathering parts to make one myself

ages ago when i was 12 or 13 our family dentist decided to retire over the years he had heard that i build models so when he closed up shop he actually gave me an old dentist drill with a few different bits i remember sitting up in my little room with the drill wired into a a powerconverter (12 volt output) putting bullet holes in my model plane as for doing embarrasing things for models, i cant think of anything not mentioned yet actually....there is one thing, i tend to take little tidbits from my job tiny scraps of aluminum tubing, screens, ink everytime i look at something that needs to get thrown out i get this look in my eyes and my boss askes me "gonna use that on a model?"

What would look better

honoustly, when i think recall mags i see a 442...not a mopar -
thanks for the comments guys the interior on ths model is very simple, but i like it in this type of build the pictures dont show it very well but the interior is made to look like a gutted interior, including lack of rear seat and floormats i spraypainted it with allclad to look like just that, a stripped interior all things considered i really enjoyed this build (and im not just saying that because i actually finished it)

this seems to be the most popular way http://www.ebay.com/itm/TSD-450FPS-Airsoft-Guns-spring-air-power-Sniper-Rifles-M-SD700-bb-2X-Mags-Comob-/290669148463?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43ad3b392f -
good looking car but whats with the license plate, shouldnt it be blue and white, beign a classic car? or does it have a re-issued title? never mind, im just getting old i guess, 89 isnt what comes to mind when i hear "classic"

well, here she is, my first completion of 2012 its a MPC kit from the mid 80s and typical for the part there is no mention of the year (74 maybe) the part count is very low (and half of those are optional engine parts) it has little detail and a metal rear axle...it just might be the perfect model kit the paint is model masters rattle can panther pink the white bilboards were donated by green duster the front seats were donated by revshag the rear wheels were made by Alan Raab and painted with alclad, front rims were partsbox every thing else was OOB i did do some plastic surgery to the rear rollpan somehow those never fit properly so it was assembled and bondo-ed before paint since the engine is onyl running headers i had to cut out the exhaust tips that were molded into the pan which is what the last picture shows all things considered i liked this build nothing too complicated, just a nice model to build that looks good on the shelf on second thought i might have put some more detail in the interior but of well

reminds me a lot of the 69 chevelle im building right now the driveshaft/rear-end/exhaust seems to be the same mold the odd way they raised the suspension is identical aswell
