This is probably the best collection of photos I've found. There are a few of the engine, interior and chassis: http://public.fotki.com/VincePutt/drag_racing/gassers/ohiogeorgemontgomer/

I doubt it's a stock Mustang color. It appears to be a silver-blue in most photos with blue fogging around the wheel wells as mentioned above plus fogging around the door handles and a bright solid blue on the taillight panel. On Slixx' decal sheet they just call for Silver Blue. GMP's diecast was more of a turquoise color and didn't look quite right. Lots of good pics here: http://public.fotki.com/VincePutt/drag_racing/gassers/ohiogeorgemontgomer/

The real car flopped, the movie flopped (though it is a good movie from a critical standpoint), I'd be willing to bet a mainstream plastic model kit would flop as well. It's a good choice for a resin kit (and there's already one) and maybe if car modelling had short-run injection plastic companies the way aircraft and military modelers do it might make a decent choice if it only had to sell a couple thousand pieces to break even. No way a mainstream company could sell 40-50,000 Tuckers in today's market. The time to do it would have been 1988 when the movie came out, that was probably the zenith of public awareness for the Tucker.

Where do you go for research pics
Brett Barrow replied to Psychographic's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I have one to add to the list - I always check RK Motors Charlotte for reference pics. They usually have extensive photo coverage of the cars they have for sale (usually with underside pics) , and they keep those pages up even after they sell the cars. http://www.rkmotorscharlotte.com/ -
AMT is doing a handful of 50th Anniversary edition kits. I think they're done with the tins, though, they're hard to ship without damage and they're dogs from a sales standpoint. Granted, they're not all-new kits, but they are trying to tie in the 50th Anniversary thing. I've said numerous times that if I was in control of the Round 2 brands, my #1 priority would be an all-new family of 1st gen Mustangs under the AMT label in 1/25th scale.

Need to decide how to do chrome trim
Brett Barrow replied to SpencerC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Did you spray the gloss lacquer over a gloss enamel basecoat? If you don't get the timing right, the dissimilar paints won't bond to each other. If you're going to spray a clear over a gloss, you have to do it early, before the base is fully cured, or you have to scuff the base coat (or use a flat) so that there's a mechanical bond between the two. -
Moebius `65 Plymouth Satellite
Brett Barrow replied to FASTBACK340's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No, there's noting wrong with that at all. We've been getting some great kits over the last few years, stuff I never thought I'd see in plastic (57 Chevy and Ford 2-door post sedans, 50 Olds, et al) stuff that has a broader appeal than just rep-stock. Not that there's anything wrong with rep-stock... -
Rusting on a diecast model
Brett Barrow replied to Bullitt's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
If you mean will the salt and water actually rust the die-cast metal, then no. If you mean the technique where you use salt as a "mask" to create random chipping over a rust-colored base coat, then yes. -
Moebius `65 Plymouth Satellite
Brett Barrow replied to FASTBACK340's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
That seems to be Moebius' MO, to get two or more variants out of a tooling with a minimum of additional parts (open wheels, roll cage, rear seat filler, decals, etc). Pretty much every car they've done or have announced has a NASCAR or drag racing connection. And Revel has been following the same strategy as well, that's just the nature of the business in 2014. -
1969 Camaro w/out Hideaway Headlights?
Brett Barrow replied to impcon's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
IIRC, the only Revell kits that don't have the standard grille are the convertible and the Baldwin-Motion. Not all the Z/28's show the standard grill on the box, but it's in there. -

Great show! My first time there, too bad I had to work in our booth and didn't get to spend as much time as I would have wanted browsing the vendors' and show tables. Still had a great time and looking forward to coming back next year. I did manage to find time to snag one of VRM's awesome Gold Leaf decals for the Revell Midget kit.

Tamiya X-21 Flat Base. Add small amount to acrylic paints to make them dead flat. I've never used it in MM Acryl, but I use it in Vallejo all the time. I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work in MM Acryl. Edit: just noticed you said you tried Flat Base. I don't know why it's not working for you. Give Vallejo Model Color paints a try if you can. They hand brush much easier than MM Acryl, and if they're not as flat as you like they can be made flatter with Flat Base (but they're usually very flat out of the bottle). They are thick out of the bottle, but thin easily with water.

The orange one should have been the box art for the Mustang Funny Car. They goofed.

Possibly, but MRC did previously sell both the Texaco and generic Joe's at the same time.

Allison V-12 Powered Thunderbird reissued!
Brett Barrow replied to S. Svendsen's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I see distributors still have some, so they're still available if anyone's interested. Kit # 21877. It was a Model King reissue, not a current AMT/Round 2 item. -
Yes, eBay (not the seller) bases the estimated shipping time assuming the seller has it and will ship immediately after purchase. The seller can't change that, it's done by eBay's software. Seller was more than clear in their description, no need for negative feedback. Our company doesn't do pre-sales on eBay for this reason. On our own site we have to ability to change shipping notices (and people still pre-order items thinking they'll ship immediately).

Japanese drift car thing. One side is a mirror image of the other.

They probably only had an estimate of the shipping weight when you ordered yours, then once they actually had them in stock they adjusted the correct weight. I have to do that as part of my job, guess weights for new items. If I'm off shipping dept will let me know to change it.

Revell and Tamiya wiping their sidewalls clean (and eliminating Goodyear sponsor decals from race car kits) back in the early 2000's was a direct "FU" response to Goodyear's increased demands for higher licensing fees. I've got to think that it was a pretty substantial amount (much more than 25$ a year) if it pissed off two of the largest plastic model companies. The number I hear floated around most often is that they wanted 3% of retail on each kit (Which was what NASCAR was getting from their kits). Mind you, the manufacturers only make around 10% of retail on a kit, so it's a pretty big deal to see your profit margin cut by a third (or half on NASCAR kits). I guess since Round2 doesn't spend nearly as much on new tooling and product development as Tamiya (which has only recently become a Goodyear licensee again) or Revell they're better able to absorb the increased cost to have Goodyear licensed tires in some of their kits, or (more likely) Goodyear has lowered their licensing fees.

A whole bunch of early Polar Lights and Moebius sci-fi kits were reverse engineered Aurora kits, Revell's done it to Rommel's Rod and Tijuana Taxi in addition to the Dragon Wagon. Round2/AMT's "Leif Ericson" space ship had some original parts reverse engineered after they were lost when it was converted to the glow-in-the-dark "UFO" mystery ship. The Neil Armstrong face from Revell's Astronaut kit was lost and had to be reverse engineered... I'm sure there's many more.
