Not much of an update, working on taking the Fury trim off to replicate the Savoy trim. Will need to make a Sedan out of the hardtop as well. Working on donor chassis from Lindberg 64 Dodge as well. Had to shorten the chassis about 1/8" or so for wheelbase to align and had to cutthe rear of the chassis by 1/4" roughly to fit into body. May need to narrow abit as well, will see once glue has dried. Body work has been started. Here you can see where I cut the chassis right behind the front sub-frame to shorten wheelbase. Cut out the stock gas tank and shortened rear frame rails. Need to fill in were tank was and either modify the stock tank or fab a new one similar to the Johan 64 Petty tank.

Would anybody have a good reference pics of Richard Petty's 1962 Plymouth? I am looking at building a model of this car but have only found a few pics of the car but, they are not real great. I need to look at Cars of the King book to see what is in that yet. I have a Revell 1962 Fury that I am planning on using with a Lindberg 1964 Plymouth or Dodge as a donor for the chassis.

Yeah I will probably rub it out a little but I am very pleased with the paint job as is since it is straight out of the can no airbrush on this one.

Here is the start of my Chrysler C-300 kit. I have painted it Testors Lacquer Itailan Red and clear coated it with Tamiya Clear. I don't know if I will polish this out or not, looks pretty good I think right now. I have painted the interior Model Master Dessert Tan with Tamiya Semi-gloss clear over that, need to get a few pics of the interior yet.

Did a wikipedia search and came up with this. He drove until he retired in 1967 but came back in 1970 with his last start in 1972. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fred_Lorenzen

Nice looking Mopar. Not into the ProMods but I do like to see great chassis work. Great job on the chassis. It is nice to see something that isn't a Chevy

Looks awesome. Great job Scott. You can be proud of all 4 Petty cars you have built.

Thanks guys. I was thinking black due to sun glare but wasn't sure. I know that dash will be black and the chassis and cage will be Petty Blue. I assume the suspension will be the darker blue, engineering blue?

I have just recieved a resin 1986 Pontiac 2+2 Stock car body and decals for a richard Petty stock car. I am looking for some reference pics of the area within the rear glass. Need to know if it would be a package shelf that was painted black or blue to match chassis or just how they closed the truck off from the interior. Anybody have any idea or pictures of this area? Here is a pic of the car I am looking at replicating.

Awesome I got 2 of the stock models coming my way soon and I will be getting a couple of the Nascar kits as well. Great time to be a model builder. Always like the 300 series cars. -
What did they use a paint roller to paint it? You weren't kidding about the paint. Purple pond will do wonders for it. Looking forward to seeing this build of a car you don't see much of.

So sorry to hear about your loss. It doesn't matter if he had anything to do with your modeling it just takes something out of everyone when we lose somebody near and dear to us. We are all here for you. Dart has been looking great though. I have one to build someday as well. Keep up the great work, looking forward to seeing this completed.

Why are Tamyia Paints so hard to get in this country? I know they come from Japan but most model kits come from overseas as well and we haven't had a hard time with getting them. Any insight fellow members?

Here's a link to the story about the black top roof car. http://richardpettyf...play&thread=840 Ane the story about the white roof car. http://richardpettyfans.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=judith&action=display&thread=841

For those wondering about the number on the roof, here is a picture I found on the Richard Petty Fan forum. Never seen a picture of this car until recently when doing research for my own Petty Model collection that I want to start. By the way Scott, love your builds and will be following this one as well.

Heres another Ebay score that I recievec this week. I got 2 Richard Petty 1971 Roadrunner builts that I will strip and rebuild. They are missing a few pieces and a few are broken but it's a cheaper way then to pay the price for unbuilts. The nice thing is that the bodies are not painted, they were left in the blue that they were molded in. The other one does have the red painted on it for the STP colors but I will strip it.

Love the color Doc. Looks great. Awesome job. Glossy is the way to go.
