  1. Most likely, your device is infected with something that's hijacking the QR codes. That code should take you straight to the build book.
  2. This might belong under irked too, but I think I'll look at the good side of things. Last October, our utility company detected a gas leak. They have trucks with sniffers checking the neighborhoods every 6 months or so, and the sniffer went off at the end of our driveway. Next day, they come out to diagnose the cause, and find a significant leak in the pipe that feeds the four houses in our little cluster. An hour later, there's heavy machinery and three crews digging up the pipe. The pipe was not in good condition, and they decide to replace it with plastic which is much longer lived in underground conditions. To do this, they dug out a trench for a new feeder pipeline and part of that was in our driveway. This took two 24-hour days to complete, and they filled in the driveway cut-outs with asphalt. Today, they came out to put in permanent repairs. So far, the crew is doing a great job, and they're handling the small curve thrown at them. The original repair blocked off a drainage pipe. We like to complain about the local utilities, but from what I've seen, the frontline workers are conscientious and capable.
  3. We learned today that Mike Scott passed away on July 27th after a three year battle with cancer. Mike won an award at this year's GSL, and his T-Bucket will be featured in the next issue of MCM. His obituary can be found here. Our condolences to his family and friends.
  4. I haven’t checked, but I think they compress extremely well. But that’s always the last step.
  5. File size limitations: Trying to share an astronomy-related project on another forum, and they have a 500k limitation on the entire post. After several iterations of resizing, and reencoding, I fell back to a single picture, and if anyone's curious, they can ask me. It does reinforce the wisdom of removing those limitations here. This board would be unusable with any significant file size limits.
  6. Yes. You can order them from Spotlight Hobbies and Model Round Up.
  7. Post deletion is disabled to prevent site vandalism. If you have a post that you feel needs to be deleted, report it, and add a note that you'd like to delete the post. The mods will take it from there.
  8. Delivery seems to have been slower than usual this time around. Send an email to subscribe@modelcarsmag.com and they'll send you a replacement copy.
  9. MCM did not organize GSL. Mark Gustafson and his fellow Trustees did. They should be referred to collectively as they all play major roles in putting on the show. MCM did have a larger than usual presence at the show, which may account for some confusion. Larry is an associate editor and contributor. Most editorial decisions are made by the editorial board which, includes multiple staff members.
  10. The post office is really having problems this time around. If you haven't gotten your issue yet, please send an email to subscribe@modelcarsmag.com We'll send you a replacement issue.
  11. We don't have that theme available for this version of the forum. It may well be available in the next version. If it is, I'll enable it after I upgrade.
  12. I had the once-in-a-lifetime pleasure of seeing Fangio drive his restored F1 car at Laguna Seca. They were doing parade laps, and each new lap was a little faster than the previous one. Eventually, the Mercedes film car spun out and Fangio could drive in a more <ahem> spirited manner. I find it interesting that the mid-fifties F1 car could outdrive a modern Mercedes.
  13. Great subject! (I'm a Fangio fanlet) I wonder if you wouldn't save yourself a ton of work by taking the model files, and have them printed in a liquid resin printer? The layers are much, much smaller and the prep will be much easier.
  14. If it's any consolation, mine hasn't arrived either. Let me know if it doesn't get there by the end of next week, and we'll get you a replacement copy.
  15. We do have digital subscriptions that are not Magster. If you take out a digital subscription directly with us, it's hosted on a platform we control. PM me if you need help setting that up.
  16. Your subscription is still current. Send me a PM if it isn't there by the end of next week and I'll send you a replacement issue.
  17. It should be soon, but might take another week or even two for yours to arrive. It all depends on the US Postal Service.
  18. That cat is a saint.
  19. My understanding from US Navy submariners is that in the event of a hull implosion, people basically get hammered into paste. You have a 4000 PSI shock wave. Nothing biological stands a chance.
  20. I've been using the Vallejo acrylic putty. I like that it's a bit softer than the plastic, so you don't get sanding shadows. That's my main filler. If I need to fill a gap finer than the acrylic will get into, I use Mr. Dissolved Putty. And, I use primer and a brush to fill scratches. Mr. Dissolved putty is great stuff, but it's seriously odiferous.
  21. White doesn't cover very well. The color of the underlying paint/model has a big influence on the final outcome. I have a few suggestions: Use white primer. Tamiya is fine, or use Mr. Color Surfacer, 1000 or above. Multiple very light coats. You need to build up the paint gradually. Use the Tamiya pre-thinned paints. Those seem to spray better, at least for me. If you're still having coverage issues, try the Tamiya matte white. That will cover better. You can follow up with a clear coat. The surface on your model looks rough. The paint is likely drying too much before it hits the model. This is a constant problem in a low-humidity environment. Spray less paint, get closer, move fast.
  22. You could probably submerge the section in water and check it ultrasonically. Back in the '70s we built a machine that did that for tires. The return wave will be different in the presence of one or more delaminations. That said, I'm going to speculate that the cause will ultimately be due to the carbon fibers breaking rather than delamination.
  23. I'm the managing editor, and I've been watching this topic Thank you all for commenting. I'm totally going to steal the zipper idea. ? This forum contains a huge body of knowledge, but it's poorly organized. The built-in search function isn't nearly as effective as we'd like. There is a solution for the search problem, and I'm looking at implementing that. Another possibility is a single pinned and maintained post that gives us a directory of particularly good topics. Or, we could put something like that up on our web site. Putting these in the magazine is an attractive idea, but we need to increase the page count before we consider running it as a regular feature. Could happen intermittently though. As always, we welcome your comments.
  24. The first thing to try is clearing your browser cache. The exact procedure varies with the browser, but you can easily get the procedure with a Google search.
  25. Issue #220 is burning up the presses and includes full coverage from some of the biggest shows. You have until June 18th to subscribe or renew to get this issue delivered to your mailbox. Makes a great last minute Father’s Day gift! https://simplecirc.com/subscribe/model-cars-magazine
