More Match fun-- Match fuel jet experiments
Dave Ambrose replied to bobthehobbyguy's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I'm surprised he didn't start a grass fire. Pretty low Isp for all those matches. -
I have that problem too. Happy birthday!

No need. Check out the Klingon language. It's full of wonderful insults too.

At Model Cars Magazine, we're trying to get a better idea of what model car builders need and want. To help all of us build a better forum, we've put together an online poll. It's pretty short and should only take a couple of minutes to complete. Your responses are anonymous and we don't collect any identifying information. We appreciate you visiting our questionnaire and letting us know what you think. Click this link to take the survey. Thanks, MCM

There are lots of ways to enjoy this hobby. E.g. I'm not big into lowriders, but I appreciate and respect the craftsmanship that goes into them.

I think that buying kits is a distinct hobby from building them. Most of us are much better at one than the other. After a stint in the buying hobby, I realized there were two separate categories of kits, want to builds, and like to builds. Like to build kits are nice, but not something whose completion will make me extraordinarily happy. That made the buy/skip decision a lot easier. I also realized that kits are going to be available for a long time to come, as some of these mega-collections hit the market. So, if I change my mind later, it's not likely going to be a big deal. That slowed my buying a lot. And, truth be told, I'm much happier for it. Right now, I can concentrate on building and be satisfied. A little further down this road I added FOMO (fear of missing out) buys. I try to stick to the want to builds, tho occasionally, I'll make a FOMO buy. My biggest FOMO buy is a Scott Brodeen Nautilus kit. This is also very high in my want to build list, and yes, I'm very glad I got it. My wife and I talked that over for several days before getting it.

I'm sure a year from now, some of the information will be obsolete. We can publish an update, but our publishing cycle is short enough that the information in this issue is quite fresh and up to date.

What are the very best drag racing model kits of all time?
Dave Ambrose replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Somebody will want to burn me at the stake for this, but I would include the Monogram Slingster. It was a fun kit to build, and there must be a zillion different ways to build it. At the end of the day, it looked good too. -
One good thing about being, ahem, older, is that it's hard to pick the best concerts. So here is my list: Jimi Hendrix, Charlie Musselwhite, and Iron Butterfly at the Santa Clara County fairgrounds Grateful Dead at Winterland Leonard Bernstein conducting the NY Philharmonic Julian Bream at the Masonic Hall in SF Weather Report at the Berkeley Jazz Festival Al DiMeola at BJF Joni Mitchel with Herbie Hancock at BJF Tragically Hip at the Belly Up Sharon van Etten at the Belly Up Dick Dale at the Belly Up There's one more, but there's a long story attached to that one. And yes, I have eclectic tastes in music.

Model Cars Magazine #215 should be hitting your mailboxes any day now. We jumped into the 3D printing deep end with stories that will inform modelers of all levels. If 3D isn’t quite your thing, don’t worry, there are still plenty of inspirational stories which include 8 pages of NNL West coverage.

Who's the Oldest Builder on the Forums?
Dave Ambrose replied to Miatatom's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
Happy birthday, Snake. The oldest active member I can find was born in 1936, and there are a handful of members with birthdays in '39 to '43. After that, it starts to get pretty populated. I think they call it a baby boom. ? -
Please send me a PM with your name and address.

Interesting. I wonder why he didn't go for a couple of 20,000 tanks? Would have been much easier to transport. That 10 wheel transport truck is one serious piece of transport hardware. Looks like it might have been part of a mobile artillery system in a previous life. That would explain its speed on dirt roads.

Hot Rod Sports Cars
Dave Ambrose replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm gonna guess that the MGA is using something other than the stock 1500cc four banger. My niece's husband tried putting a very large Ford V-8 in an MGA. The frame needs a LOT of reinforcement to make that work right. -
These jokers are gaming the system. I don't know why they think this will get them more sales. I tweaked the settings again. If you get ads like this, click the little report icon in the top right corner and select ad covers content. That seems to get the ad canned.

Something to do with Canada Post. Beyond that, we just do not know.
