What non-auto model did you get today?
Dave Ambrose replied to chunkypeanutbutter's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I’ve had my eye on this kit for a while. Found it for a reasonable price. Going to get the Amelia Earhart decals for it. -
Have him register for this board, then you can PM each other.

Most likely some machine broke it. I bought a book and a Dan Gurney poster from The Petersen Museum. They get here, and the package is crushed in the middle. Book and poster are damaged. I contact me, and they send out another one. Crushed exactly the same way, but this time the book survived. Third try, the guy at the Petersen double-tubes the poster. The box still arrives crushed in the same place, but this time the poster survived, and it's now on my wall. This was a LOT of hassle for a $20 clearance poster. Sadly, this never seems to register as a problem with the shipping company. Maybe that's something else Amazon has going for them. I almost never have shipping damage with them, probably because that directly costs them money.

I'm frustrated by the poor built-in search too. The software vendor has offered a solution, but that solution takes a lot of work to install, and some unknown amount to maintain. I will eventually take a look at it, but at this point, I too many more urgent things that need my attention.

At this point, the forum serves that function for the magazine's readership. There are a lot of reasons for that, but the big one is timeliness. It's over a month between the latest time for us to receive the material, and the time it gets mailed. Then it takes weeks for the post office to deliver it. Usually, by the time something contemporary gets published, it's irrelevant. It's unfortunate, but that's just the environment we're operating in now. It definitely affects the type of content we publish. If you want to comment on the magazine itself, you can either post it here, or send me a PM and I will share it with the rest of the editorial board. Otherwise, you can post in General Automotive or the Off-Topic Lounge.

Where do all my Models go when I'm gone?
Dave Ambrose replied to Lorne's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I've asked my kids not to fight over my kit stash. They smile and say they won't. Not sure who's going to end up with the Disney Nautilus, but anything they don't want can go to our model car club. -
I missed this too. I liked watching him race when I was young. He was one of the good guys. Relieved that he isn't suffering now. It was a life well lived.

If you want their email address, you need to ask them for it. The email you get from the forum is a notification that you have a PM. Replying to the notification email gets sent to one of the MCM accounts, and I get to see what you sent them. To reply to the PM, you need to come to the forum and reply there.

Google is our frenemy. I went through and blocked a bunch of ads. Reported a bunch too. It seems to be someone's favorite game. That someone isn't me. ?

Sad to see him go, but he got a nice, long run. To Sir, with Love was my favorite of his movies.

There are over 150 breweries in San Diego County. We have a lot of good beer to choose from. My current favorites are Ballast Point Grunion, and 5 Suits Pit BOS Hefeweitzen. I also like, in no particular order, Elysium Space Dust, Sierra's Hazy Little Thing, and Anchor Steam.

A Replica Of My Vintage Race Car
Dave Ambrose replied to Miatatom's topic in Other Racing: Road Racing, Salt Flat Racers
Very nice! I love Bug Eyes, but I just don't fit in one very well. My son has a '70 Midget that's under restoration. -
PROBLEM COPYING PHOTOS ON MCM INTO NEW THREADS ON MCM
Dave Ambrose replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in How To Use This Board
This is strange. I can see those just fine. We did just renew some of the server credentials, so that might be a problem until they propagate. But at this point, I don't have any good ideas. Will check with the server people this week. I have a growing number of questions and issues for them. -
PROBLEM COPYING PHOTOS ON MCM INTO NEW THREADS ON MCM
Dave Ambrose replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in How To Use This Board
There are several ways to copy photos. Are you selecting the photo, pressing cntrl-C, then pasting? You could also copy the image URL. This is probably the best way. Alternatively, you could save the image locally and reload it to your posting. Also, which topics are you trying to reference? Feel free to PM me if you prefer. -
Notifications should be working now.

#211 Probably the best one so far!
Dave Ambrose replied to ratdoggy's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Digital copies are something new to us. 210 is the first issue we put on Magster, and our own subscription service. -
It's not working. I'm trying to diagnose and fix it.

I'm so sorry. Sounds like you had some great years together and lots of good memories. I don't know why, but losing pets seems to hurt more than losing people. We've gone through a more than a few cats in our household, and I still think about them regularly.

Pat, The digital version is available on Magster, or you can subscribe to the digital version instead of the print version. -
This Forum's Purpose
Dave Ambrose replied to Dave Ambrose's topic in Model Cars Magazine News and Discussions
Unfortunately we don't have anyone in the UK. We'd love to have some though. If you have a local hobby shop, perhaps you can point them in our direction. Alternatively, we now have digital subscriptions that should meet your delivery needs. -
My daughter quietly, but sternly, informed me that we would be disowned if we ever got a drum set for my grandson. She has a point. His drumming style would closely mimic Animal's from the Muppets.

I don't know. It probably has to do with how the ad is served. Google has been transitioning to new a new ad serving back end, so you may be seeing old vs. new (and supposedly improved) versions.
