Looks like a good time for a top chop!

I've been sold on the Molotow pen. I'll use it now for doing those pesky vent window frames that come out looking so awful with BMF. It can also be used to touch up bad spots on BMF.

What's always been a head scratcher for me is the inclusion of the rear brake cooler hoses on the 962 with the sealed rear body and the omission of them from the "full detail" 956 kit.

Micro Mesh Polishing Pads(wet or dry?)
ZTony8 replied to Ferbz's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
I've found that using them wet makes the grit paper separate from the foam so use the water sparingly. -
I smell a rotary powered Monza or Pacer.

Boiling the tires with no driver on board?

I've built the Buick, I've kinda started the T-Bird, and have the Pontiac somewhere in the depths of my stash. The bodies are the best part of the kits. That generic instrument panel with the different decals for the different cars is the worst part of the series. Definitely a cost cutting move.

Ok, I stand corrected on the front axle. I had only a brief look at the parts trees and didn't see the hole. That's a good price with the 40% off Hobby Lobby coupon. Unless Hobby Lobby gets an additional price break that the hobby shops don't get, they're making $1.22 at the coupon price.

I got a look at this kit yesterday and was surprised that it was a completely new tool. I was also surprised by the two metal axles. But the front axle does NOT go through the oil pan. See the instruction sheet. I'll be curious as to the list price that Hobby Lobby will use. 40% off regular list will be right at shop cost. Be prepared for a jacked up "list price" like the Polar Lights Lawman Plymouth.

Yesterday I picked up the Tamiya FXXK, the AMT 1LE 2017 Camaro, a Hasegawa Nissan R89C, some paint , a clear carbon fiber decal sheet, and a sheet of pin striping with the correct shade of green that I needed for a project.

Shizuoka Hobby Show 2017, Few More Pic's Added.
ZTony8 replied to martinfan5's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
For a long time I've wondered what one of those BMWs would look like with a mild top chop. I might now get my chance. -
This isn't USPS related but logistics related. For the GM dealers here in metro Detroit, the main parts distribution center is in Cincinnati, Ohio. So, for example, if a part is stocked at the Willow Run or Dayton Plains or Livonia warehouse it goes down( by truck, not air) to Ohio and back up here to Michigan. Made no sense to me or anybody else. And don't get me started on the way they assigned dealers to the delivery routes. That made even less sense.

I was pleasantly surprised to find some decent kits left at the local Ollies. I bought a Surfite, a '55 Ford Pro Mod, a '99 Mustang, a Sox & Martin '67 GTX, a Dodge Ram pickup, a '32 Ford Speedwagon, and the last Slingster on the shelf( I would have bought more of those). Oddly enough, when I went to this same store about 2 weeks ago none of these kits were there. At that time this store had a lot of the Lindberg Little red Wagons, Bugatti Royales and Mercedes SSK kits. Yesterday they were all gone. I can't believe there's been that much demand for those kits. I wonder where they went?

We fortunately don't need to limit attendance here in the Motor City. We WANT more attendees! Our NNL is November 12th,2017. Come to Metro Detroit and see our show, vendor area( 275 tables for vendors), and facilities. We've recently gotten more participation from surrounding states and I'm sure these participants will attest to the quality of our event.

The Beretta was supposed tp supplant the Camaro. Cooler heads prevailed.

If anyone thinks that Daytonas and Superbirds used all stock parts on the race cars they need to take a good close look at them. Pay attention to the nose and fenders. There's a noticeable difference in the race parts from the street parts.

Tamiya extra thin cement
ZTony8 replied to Dann Tier's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've used the Tamiya Extra Thin cement in several situations. It's good for some basic parts attaching but I think it's TOO thin for many situations. Don't use it to attach painted parts together-it will seep out and ruin the finish. Yes, it's happened to me. I think it might work for attaching windows if you clamp the parts first and apply the glue sparingly to surfaces as far as possible from the visible area of the windows. You might want to try the Tamiya Thick cement.I find that it works better for most situations. -
Update on Revell Model A Coupe and Roadster kits
ZTony8 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
I can imagine the parts packaged like Pringle's potato chips, stacked on top of each other. -
Kudos to Revell for sticking out their corporate neck with these kits but I see them as unsaleable 5$ items( a.k.a. contest prizes and Dirty Santa tricks) in about 5 years- just like the older ones.
-
That 1200 attendance figure is a surprise. I thought it would be much higher given the number of models entered in the show. We pull about 1000 attendees for each of our D.A.A.M. shows here in metro Detroit with a much smaller number of model show entries ( typically 275 to 350 models ).
-
I'll buy a glue bomb if the subject interests me, or if it's a hard to find model( like a Tamiya Ford XR4i), or if I'm building a kit and I think I need some extra parts in case of accident ( not that that EVER happens ).

When I first bought this kit I was originally disappointed that it has no complete frame in it. Now I just appreciate it as a simple basic kit and a quick builder.

MPC Fuzz Buster Volare - lets kick it around
ZTony8 replied to Jantrix's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Aspens and Volares debuted that updated front suspension with the laterally mounted torsion bars so the basic design, however badly rendered, is correct.
