  1. I recently bought the Bobby Allison reissue of the older Polar Lights stock car kit. When I was looking at the chassis I noticed a peculiar thing - there are parking brake cables molded in it. Why?
  2. I like the variety of your builds.
  3. My current cat, Zoey, now only occasionally comes down the basement to visit me at the model desk. Usually it's an indication that he wants me to go upstairs and go to bed. Sometimes he wants just wants attention. But he doesn't come down as much as he did. I think the paint fumes now bother him (He's almost 12 years old). Several years ago one of my prior cats, Chachi or Tazio, got onto my model bench and got hold of the only distributor that I ever successfully drilled for plug wires. Several weeks later I found the part minus some of the wires.
  4. I've got nothing as offbeat as those food stands but I do have some offbeat car kits: 1) A late 70s/early 80s Skoda Favorit (kinda looks like a Omni/Horizon sedan with a different nose and tail) with instructions on the box in Czechoslovakian. 2) A Fujimi Lamborghini Diablo. Not an unusual subject but this not a glue together kit, it's not a snap together kit-it's a screw together kit! Never have seen another one. 3)Bandai currently has out a series of 1/43rd scale vehicles in a Mecha Collection Ultraman Series. The vehicles are sci/fi related EXCEPT for a Science Special Search Party Exclusive Vehicle- a .............................................(wait for it) '62 Corvair four door sedan! There's also a mercilessly hacked late 50s Imperial sedan that reminds one of the Richard Korkes customized '56(?)Chevy. It's so truly hideous that I won't buy the kit.
  5. Bought from the Model Cave yesterday- The Bobby Allison Monte Carlo, Moebius/Model King Butch Leal '65 Satellite, Tamiya Toyoda AA, Fujimi Porsche Cayman, Tamiya '66 VW Beetle, Aoshima Nissan 350 Z, and a bottle of Solvaset. Thanks John and Melissa for a great store!
  6. It's still way too large.
  7. BTW if anyone wants to build an '83 or '84 Camaro with the 305 H.O. engine this kit is the only one with an accurate air cleaner assembly to do the conversion.
  8. Interesting tidbit- for the 1/20 scale Tamiya Ferrari F189 kit someone in Japan goofed and the engine is 1/24 scale. OOPS!
  9. Slightly reminiscient of the Howmet TX turbine racer from the late Sixties.
  10. I hope it's done in time for the D.A.A.M. show or the Detroit Autorama contests next March.
  11. Brown would be my turd choice for a color for the kit.
  12. One of my local Hobby Lobby stores now carries the 1 and 2 millimeter pens in the model kit section. No more hunting around the store to find it. YAY!
  13. ESCI kits seem to be like Heller kits- some were decent, some were mediocre. But each was sometimes the only source for a subject ( How many different Lancia Beta Monte Carlo racer kits were there anyway?). So hooray for that . BTW, the old ESCI BMW M1 kit was recently re-issued by Revell Germany.
  14. I, too, have experienced this. I have several ancient Testor enamel cans that don't leak but have had about 5 of the newer lacquer cans leak. Something, perhaps, in the chemical composition of the contents? I'm interested to find out the answer.
  15. Over 280 tables-another sold out show! Round 2 is coming as is Moebius. Slot car drags, a few real cars and the Motor City NNL. Doesn't get much better than this!
  16. A few years ago, one of our club's monthly theme's was "Cars in Song". Of course there were the obligatory GTOs and '32 Fords and Chevy 409s. I, being the contrarian that I am, built a stock AMT '29 Model A. The song? "Henry Made a Lady Out of Lizzie". Not even our member who's in the Model A Restorers Club caught it.
  17. I'd bet that re-using the 6 lug rims was a cost saving move on Revell's part. Most builders would either put the stock wheel covers on the stock steel rims (hiding the lug nuts) or swap the rims for something else. So no need to substitute for 5 lug rims.
  18. Super Clean is stronger than Purple Power. It works better.
  19. Jesse ( and others)- You need to make plans to attend our Motor City NNL on November 12th. We'll have well over 200 tables of vendors, The Motor City NNL, slot car drags, and a few real cars on display. See the thread on the show for more details.
  20. Bring all you can- I'd like to make it a really well populated category( can we top the "long roofs"?). It was a bit of a late choice and hasn't been added to our Facebook page yet ( it was supposed to have been added 3 months ago). So for anybody who plans on attending our show- please bring lots of Ferraris( street and racing ). FORZA!!!
  21. Watch the next Auto World catalog-It'll have all the kits that Ollie's received with a notation stating '"limited availability". Well, yeah when you dump a large load off to Ollie's that's what happens!
  22. I'm gonna check out my local Ollie's tomorrow or Friday. When I'm in Hershey next week I'll look around there, too.
  23. Once you've done the Fujimi EM kit you can go to a Gunze Sangyo Ferrari 250 SWB or 250 G.T.O. That one will make your EM kit seem like a snap together.
  24. The 13th Motor City NNL and toy show will be Sunday, November 12th,2017 at the Macomb County Community College, 12 Mile Road and Hayes, Warren ,Michigan from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The main theme is 50 years of Camaro and Firebird, the sub theme is "long roofs", and the Cult Theme is 70 Years of Ferrari. The toy show will have well over 200 tables Five dollar admission to the show, NO entry fee for the N.N.L! Bring a lot of models, theme oriented or not!
  25. Does the flake in the paint look as large in person as it does in the photo?
