  1. Whenever this kit arrives my build will be the topless Melrose Missle.I will have a pleasant wait.
  2. There will be about 10 of us from the Detroit Area Auto Modelers attending the show.Look for us in our snazzy flamed grey club shirts. It's the first time for me and I'm excited about going there.
  3. About 260 total vendor tables sold as of last weekend.Come and see the show and the Motor City Madness contest.Five dollars gets you in the door.
  4. I used Tamiya TS flat brown on the roof of my Moebius '53 Hudson. After I sanded out a few dust nibs I polished it with Novus #2 and it came out beautiful.
  5. I use about half of my basement for building and kit storage.
  6. One of the model clubs I belong to bought up a former club president's collection of over 800 car and truck kits, built ups and promos. So yesterday we split a good chunk of the haul.I picked up 26 kits(including 8 Jo-Han mid 80s re-issues,3 still sealed and enough pieces to build a '66 Caddy ambulance plus spares),some wheel sets, and a nicely foiled '59 Dodge Jo-Han(X-EL) promo. Earlier in the weekend I got 3 Heller Citroen rally car kits, the new Moebius Ventura and the Round 2 re-issue of the 1960 Corvette and then my nearest hobby shop put some kits on clearance and I picked up the 1979 version of the Tamiya Lotus 79 F1 car( been waiting 2 years for that to go on sale) and the Wurth liveried Group 5 Capri. I can now walk faster since my wallet is so much lighter.
  7. I hope that our continued support of Round 2 by buying these re-issued kits leads to them being able to tool up new kits for us.
  8. Sometimes I'll leave the small parts on the sprue, sometimes I'll use clips.Or if I have several small parts to be painted the same color I just put them on folded over masking tape and spray them.
  9. Since I'd be taking the lump sum because of my age( I don't expect to live to almost 92), after the tax hit I'd be left with about 570 million dollars.I would take a different route.I'd look into buying Modelhaus and other aftermarket companies and combine them into one full line accessory company operating from a large commercial facility with expanded product lines and consistent production, inventory, and delivery.
  10. The B&N closest to me doesn't carry the magazine.Next time I go there I'll bug them about carrying it. The hobby shop closest to me is where I buy my issues of the magazine.
  11. IF it's a lacquer you burned through and IF it's on an edge or a ridge(a wheel opening or a panel crease line) you may be able to blend in by brushing some of the color on the burned area.It will usually flow out and blend almost invisibly.I've done this a few times with Tamiya sprays and have had good results.
  12. You might look to Tamiya TS-85 which is the red mica for the Ferrari F60 Formula 1 car. It's actually very close to small block Chevy red/orange with a mica in it.The color on that Audi looks like a hot red/orange.
  13. Tom,did your neighbor end up keeping the Yugo for free?
  14. Yes,Bill, there are some of us on here with over a thousand kits(I have between 1200 and 1300).A couple of guys in my model clubs each have three to four times that. My kits are my life insurance policy.I need to live to be about 400 years old to build them all.So far,so good!
  15. Knowing that the engine family of this car is the same as the U.S. J car I had the wild hair idea of putting a Sunfire or Skyhawk turbo 1.8 engine and bigger brakes in one of those cars and picking off a few Camaros and Mustangs.Never did follow through but I still think it's a cool idea.
  16. Issue with plug wires?Wait until you get to the headlights!
  17. Try Studio 27,Tabu,Museum Creation, and Model Factory Hiro.
  18. AMT '62 Buick Special wagon Jo-Han '69 and '70 Road Runner and GTX AMT '60 Buick hardtop-the first kit I ever built myself(at age 5 1/2) MPC '71 Firebird Formula MPC' 70 Trans Am(to compliment my still un-finished original kit) AMT '64 Galaxie convertible with the working lights AMT '65,'66,or '67 Falcon I realize that most (or all)of these are obtainable on the massive auction site but I'm talking for reasonable pricing, not second mortgage or lotto winner territory.
  19. I'll get to my resto-models someday.Right now I have about 1300 future restoration projects to build for the first time.
  20. Eric-good suggestion for the color.I did my MPC Merc in root beer and bronze. It's a nice combination.
  21. Gotta love the engineering on those older AMT kits.
  22. I'm in the midst of building this kit and can't discern the proper placement of the upper A-arms.There are notches on the front chassis rails(3 left,1 right) that don't seem to relate to any part of the arms. There are no locating nubs or slots on the arms either.Do I build the front suspension from the bottom and use the spindles as a placement guide? Something else?Hints or guidance, please.
  23. I'm in the midst of building one of these and am confused as to the correct placement of the upper A arms. There are 3 notches on one side of the frame, one notch on the other side and nothing on the arms matches up to any of the notches.Do I assemble the front suspension from the bottom up and determine the placement that way or do something else?Hints, please.
  24. No kits but I did get some spending loot. Now the dilemma.Do I buy myself some clothes-I could use some shirts and maybe some new boots-or do I add to the circa 1300 kit stash?Hmmmm. That Moebius '61 Pontiac is sure tempting. I forgot to add that my daughter also got me a sub for Model Cars magazine.I knew I raised her right!
  25. Sometimes I'll build for a club or NNL show theme, sometimes an idea pops into my head, and sometimes I decide to try to finish a stalled build. Since I'm not one to build all the same type of model all the time I usually change subject once a build is finished.I just finished a '53 Hudson and now I'm part way through a Pro Street '67 GTO.I may do a Formula 1 car next,or a 1/12 Tamiya bike kit,or a street rod,or...............? I don't know yet.
