Accuracy isn't the MOST important factor in any class, though it is MORE important in Factory Stock.Things like plug wire firing order correctness or a component's color aren't strong factors unless you have multiple well done models vying for the placing in a class and have to use those factors to break ties for trophies.

Best single year ever?
ZTony8 replied to Harry P.'s topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Every few years factors come together to create good looking cars.1967 was one of those years.1927,1937,1941,1949,1955,1957,and 1965 were others. You could also make a case for 1972,except maybe for most of the Mopars. -
NNL Motor City #11 -- Sunday, November 15th.
ZTony8 replied to PatRedmond's topic in Contests and Shows
We in the D.A.A.M. club would love it if more of the "geographically diverse" modelers(to use Tim Boyd's phrase) who attend the NNL Nationals in Sylvania would make the additional approximately 90 minute drive up to our show.We think you'd be pleasantly surprised at the size of the show(yes,we do have more tables/vendors now than does Sylvania)and,to reiterate Tim Boyd's point, the quality of the models in our NNL. -
Proper judging excludes any "gotcha factor"(a total glue bomb will get noticed for its messiness, too). In the course of judging,an entry's details will be seen and evaluated without being influenced by a bright color or a unique styling feature.Build quality counts first.Everything else flows from that.

Where did you start building model car kits?
ZTony8 replied to Greg Myers's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
I started building cars and have only ever built one ship and one airplane(confession-I have the reissued AMT 2in1 boat and a Hemi Hydro in my stash.)I'm a car nut,not a plane, ship, figure,or tank nut. -
NNL Motor City #11 -- Sunday, November 15th.
ZTony8 replied to PatRedmond's topic in Contests and Shows
Our show will be even bigger this year! There will be even more tables than last year. For those who attended our last show, the additional tables are,at present, planned be on the other side of the curtain where the slot car drags are running. We set an attendance record at our spring show-come to this show and help set a new record and bring entries for the NNL! -
dodge 64' Polara Wagon Cannonball Sleeper build. Completed
ZTony8 replied to TFchronos's topic in WIP: Model Cars
Words of advice-don't use the Hemi from the Magnum wagon kit. It's way oversized and won't even fit in the '64 car's engine bay. -
Can Anyone Tell Me What This Color Is?
ZTony8 replied to Quick GMC's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Ford had a color called Strawberry metallic-or something similar. This looks like that. -
I have this kit in my stash.I've only briefly looked at the kit and that was quite a while ago.I don't remember much about it other than it's typical late edition Heller-not too many parts or much detail. Thanks for the heads-up.

Has Anyone Built This Kit? Quality? MPC 1960 Corvette
ZTony8 replied to Quick GMC's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
When it came out forty plus years ago I thought it was a nice kit with many good features and extra parts. It's been announced that it will be re-issued shortly.Let's hope the kit is as good as my aged memory remembers. -
Regarding your questions on the AMT Dodge Deora kit reissue...
ZTony8 replied to tim boyd's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Other than showing your rump to birds flying how are you supposed to get in this thing?Or does the section between the headlamps open like a swing out station wagon gate(or an Isetta)? -
barn finds you wish you had
ZTony8 replied to oldnslow's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The owner of Sherman Parts body panel business bought a Superbird like the one in the above photo(440 4-v Torqueflight, same color, too) when he was a teen.Matter of fact he bought it twice-he sold it back to the prior owner when he panicked about not knowing how to fix the seized brakes. He was lucky that the car hadn't been sold again before he bought it back.It was eventually given a rotisserie restoration and he still owns it. -
Because of space constraints in my basement I had several large boxes full of kits, some on the floor.Having had my former washing machine bust it's guts and discharge a large amount of water that seeped into the large boxes and ruin several kit boxes I now have the replacement large boxes up on free pallets that I got from work.

Quick Overview: Revell Starsky & Hutch Torino
ZTony8 replied to Chuck Kourouklis's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Kudos to the effort to make it right .But they did miss correcting one detail. The back of the rear side window should have a small kink in it-like a BMW (see the pic of the real car on the box). The model doesn't and I think that's where most of the original criticism of the window shape originated. -
Those look like the "snowflake" wheels from a Trans Am kit.

For Tamiya TS-13 you DO have to follow the few minutes or a month guideline.Otherwise you WILL experience cracking.

Questions about motor options for the 1940s
ZTony8 replied to Helper Monkey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
Add to the list the Studebaker V-8 in the '53 kit. -
Hmmmm-narrow up the front track and it passes for a comic version of a Delta Wing.

Paint session interruption...
ZTony8 replied to aurfalien's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The only exception is when using Tamiya's TS-13 clear. That has to be applied within 15 minutes of the last color coat or wait 30 days-Otherwise you'll experience cracking. -
Those wheels/tires look like some Steve Zimmerman sets that I saw in Sylvania last weekend-he does nice stuff.

I,too, used to chat with John on the old A.O.L. board and did finally meet him at the N.N.L. in Toledo back in the 90s.Sad to hear of his passing.
-
It's going to be a 426 wedge with the cross ram manifold(Max Wedge ?).Saw it at Sylvania with the hood up.

At Sylvania on Saturday I bought a 1/20 Tamiya driver/manager set,a Hasegawa Toyota Celica rally car kit,and picked up two old built ups-an AMT '61 T-Bird hardtop(the engineless version) and an AMT '62 Bonneville convertible.Nothing on the T-Bird was ever painted and only the interior on the Pontiac was painted. The T-Bird needs only wheels/tires now since Modelhaus had the tail lights at the show and they had a front bumper/grille for the Pontiac.

Nice looking build! I'll be looking for it on the table at Sylvania on Saturday.

I've seen larger scale die cast models at prior Nationals.Morgan Barkley brought several very altered models over the years.
