  1. How long did it take to 3d print all the chassis pieces?
  2. I'm not a scale bigot.I build the subject if it interests me.
  3. You'll probably laugh(or cringe) but I've had good luck using regular Testor putty on resin bodies.I have some Starter 1/43 Ferraris in which I filled voids years ago, painted over, and the putty still hasn't shrunk. Yes, a scriber will work on panel lines.
  4. The main disadvantage to a Potvin type blower system is that, unlike a top mounted blower set-up, the drive ratio cannot be changed. The blower is always driven at crankshaft speed.
  5. I have some kits stored in lawnmower and TV cartons. They're stacked 3 and 4 deep. The problem I have is that I have to stack the full cartons and their weight is causing some deflection of the bottom cartons. So every once in a while I rotate the carton stacking order.
  6. A chopped 30-31 A-how cool! That,to me, says "Hot Rod" even more than a roadster.
  7. My interest in a subject waxes and wanes depending on what I see in my stash when I look through it. Being May now my interest will turn a bit toward Indy cars so I might drag one of those kits out and work on it.We'll see.
  8. With the acknowledged fudging of shapes and sizes by the model companies how many kits are really the accurate scale(s)? The 1/24th scale models are usually noticeably bigger than the 1/25 scale models-not by much but still noticeable. I've sometimes wondered if the use of 1/25th scale pioneered by AMT didn't foretell a move to a wider usage of metric measurements in the U.S.A. in later years for other things.
  9. 80s?Heck,I've got unbuilt kits from the 50s that I inherited from my Dad & Grandfather.
  10. Which color Scotch Brite pad? Different colors indicate different degrees of coarseness.
  11. It's supposed to represent the real tire size.Sometimes the measurements coincide with reality when scaled up,somtimes they don't.You have to measure the tires/rims and convert the numbers to full size.
  12. Steve Zimmerman sells some beautiful wheel sets in several different styles and finishes.
  13. TS-56 (Repsol orange) could work if you're looking at staying with a shade of orange.
  14. Welcome to the world of supply & demand along with a dash of speculation on the part of the seller. Let's flip this around.Would you sell a rare or sought after kit(say, for the sake of discussion,an AMT '65 Coronet) for very cheap(like $10) just to be kind to a fellow modeler?
  15. My first car was a '65 Olds F-85 2 door sedan @60k miles-330 v-8,2 speed Jetaway automatic,power steering,power brakes.Got it for $650 in 1971.
  16. I've been judging the model contest for the past few years at the Detroit Autorama and D.A.A.M shows(plus a few other shows).A build sheet, card ,or book is greatly appreciated as no judge can tell everything that's been done to an entry or how the mods were done.Sometimes an overview is all that's needed-box stock, for example, isn't an involved build class(though there's more opportunity for work than is often taken) so an in depth book isn't usually needed.Other classes where more opportunity for creativity is present call for more explanation of the work done to the entry. Steve Perry, who's models have been featured in Model Cars magazine and has been a winner at GSL,makes excellent, detailed ,build books. His books are so complete and well done that I've kidded him about entering one in the Miscellaneous class at our shows. If you're ever at a contest where he's got an entry read his build book if you have the chance.
  17. One of these years I'll make it.My fellow model club members have gone in the past for a club trip(well before I joined) and they're talking about it again.Going agian depends on when NNL East falls vis-à-vis our club's spring show.
  18. I've seen Tamiya brand photo etched scribers and saw blades at one of my local hobby shops.
  19. Hmmm-maybe the '36 Lafayette. One of the two years is close.
  20. As long as a kit doesn't come out looking like a Palmer or Premier turd I'm happy. It's the parts fit problems that bother me more than some minor body goof. That's why I like to build Tamiya kits.
  21. Added to the stash this weekend -an AMT Chevy G van Rescue Van,an AMT '65 Galaxie,a Lindbergh '67 Olds 442,and a Revell '57 Ford Custom 300.
  22. I was going to finish up a build yesterday(a Fujimi Nissan 300ZX that I've been hacking at for a few years now) but couldn't when I realized I've lost the front valence.Ah well, back into the box it goes.
  23. A neat hint-shoot the clear red over a copper base coat.It gives the red a beautiful deep, rich hue.Think the Mazmanian Willys gasser for the color.
  24. I'd swap the wheels for something else and use the kit wheels for a Mazda rotary powered model.
  25. HMMM-conversion material for an Airflow or perhaps a circa 1935 Nash Lafayette . If it's indeed true about the mechanicals copied from a contemporary Chevy, the AMT '37 Chevy can provide a close appearing drive train.
