Felonious trash picking-what a concept!

I don't have much display space so most of my finished models stay in boxes in the basement.I am presently in the midst of a large repacking project to consolidate the built ups into fewer but larger boxes in an attempt to gain some storage space in my shelving units. Maybe it's time to get rid of my several boxes of old races on VHS tapes.

Why do you build models?
ZTony8 replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I'm a car guy so building is a part of being that person. And it's cheaper than having all those builds as real cars! It may be the wrong hobby for me,creatively speaking, because I have little artistic ability(stick men give me fits) and my build quality isn't what it should be for my years of experience. But I persist at it,thinking that some day my quality and production will improve-which is the very defintion of insanity. -
I made the mistake of buying a non running '55 Imperial coupe(with factory A/C,no less). It also had rust issues.I thought the floor in it was solid.I was stomping on it and thinking how lucky I was that my foot wasn't going through the floor. Then I took a whisk broom to clean up some rust scale and that's when the holes appeared!Never did figure out that deal.

Congratulations on getting them assembled!I tried to build one of the pre painted ones several years ago and it was one of those malevolent kits that fought me at every step.Mine is stil not done and likely won't ever be finished-too many things broken and missing now.

Just for fun...A Modelers License
ZTony8 replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Danno, when I got married I noticed that the license said on it that it expired in 90 days.It just took 14 years for her to leave! -
Is our hobby, growing or skrinking?
ZTony8 replied to Chris White's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It seems like each generation tends to stick with the things that were in vogue as they were growing up.This is just human nature. For a prior generation of boys it was trains, for us it's model cars, for younger people it will be gaming or "extreme sports".Too bad I won't be around to see a bunch of geriatrics trying to pedal BMX bikes! Our hobby will survive for quite a while. It won't have the "numbers" it did in the 60s but there will always be a core of enthusiasts, just like the train people or the people who re-create Civil War battles. -
Ya know-with a little imagination and more putty that thing looks like it could pass for a NSU or a Triumph Herald.

Just for fun...A Modelers License
ZTony8 replied to The Modeling Hermit's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Would this be akin to a marriage license in that it would expire in 90 days? Or how about a graduated system where you gain more building privileges as you gain experience?Start off with snap kits, move up from there with demonstrated proficiency acknowledged by a board of master modelers. Can you just imagine Juha Airio or Steve Perry having to deal with a snap kit without making it into something else? -
I've been lucky.I've been relatively slender most of my life.I'm 6'1",right now about 170 pounds(was at 165 but cheese puffs took care of that!).Heaviest I've ever been was 190,back when I was married.Being that weight was,for me,uncomfortable because most of it was at my waist. It was an effort to bend over to tie my shoelaces. My weight loss was gradual and my weight would fluctuate over the years.Best part of this was that I mostly continued to eat what I always ate-I just ate less, started drinking flavored water, and cut down on the sugary pop and the amount of cheese puffs.Being physically active also helps-I live about 7 blocks from where I work so I walk to and from work every day, including lunch time,a totaI daily distance of 2 miles. Harry, you bring up a good point about needing fewer calories as a person ages.I wonder if being encouraged to eat everything when a person is young and growing doesn't set up a behavior pattern that lasts into our later years and makes efforts to lose weight difficult ,especially for those with lower metabolisms. I tell people that I shed 250 pounds once. When they ask how I say "Divorced the wife!"

Long time modeler and fellow club member passes
ZTony8 replied to Kris Morgan's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
What most bothers me is that the suspect, who was described as a homeless pan handler, will,if convicted, end up with three hots and a cot.He should be forced to serve the sentence outside in winter.Meanwhile, poor Doug, who never harmed anyone,is gone. -

ZTony8 replied to Kris Morgan's topic in The Off-Topic Lounge
This story is more tragic than Kris mentioned. It seems that Doug was attacked in his apartment and stabbed to death. Some of Doug's personal posessions were taken as was his car which was later found on a Detroit side street. The suspect was arrested. -
Bob Ford IS the name of the dealership. They're descedents of Henry Ford-one of his brothers began the franchise.

Thumbs up for Testor fine grain lacquer primer
ZTony8 replied to ZTony8's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
I was prepared for the usual too thick Testor product when I sprayed this but was pleasantly surprised when it came out thinner than what I had expected.I find it a viable alternative to Tamiya's Fine primer if I happen to be out of that stuff. -
Oh yes! Some of it's lack of motivation, some of it's not having decided on a body color or some other feature of the build. And sometimes a build just fights me for whatever reason.

8th Annual 24 Hour Build January 25th and 26th!
ZTony8 replied to Terry Sumner's topic in Community Builds
I'm not planning to do a 24 hour build but here's a suggestion for you guys with spouses or partners-have them come along and have their own get together. They would be able to do what they'd like to do-like a 24 hour Lifetime Channel marathon or something. -
Thumbs up for Testor fine grain lacquer primer
ZTony8 replied to ZTony8's topic in Tips, Tricks, and Tutorials
That's the one! It's really nice stuff. -
I've recently had a chance to use the Testor fine grain lacquer primer and I strongly recommend it to all modelers. It sprays out nicely once the can is warmed, covers very well and dries very smooth.I find it as nice to use as the Tamiya fine grain lacquer primer and it's generally more available than the Tamiya product. It's available in both gray and white. P.S.-I don't have any affiliation with Testor.

"Exotic" cars don't have a nationality or an era to them.Pretty much any car was exotic at the dawn of the 20th century because cars were such a new item, rarely seen, and few people could afford them.As the the availability of lower priced cars expanded the market it was the fancier, higher priced cars that became the "exotic" car. These cars often had distinguishing mechanical features or bodywork that set them apart from the cheaper cars. That still holds true today although many low priced current cars have features on them (fuel injection, overhead cams, independent suspensions, super or turbo charging, leather seats, aluminum or carbon fiber bodywork, and high power audio systems) that were considered exotic (or unavailable) just 30 or 40 years ago.

Buying multiple issues of the same kit
ZTony8 replied to ChrisPflug's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I've got 6 or 7 of the Revell '57 Chevy 210 sedan plus about 4 of the 150/ Black Widow sedan,4 of the '49 Mercury custom(plus 4 or 5 of the AMT version),4 of the Tamiya Lotus 99T(plus 3 built ups) plus a lot more multiples of various kits.I pick them up at discount from Hobby Lobby or Michael's or at cheap prices at toy shows. With about 1200 kits I've been slacking off buying kits lately.I'm running short on storage space. -
Greg-The quality of R&R products varies. Many subjects have an incorrect chassis and body shape and thickness varies from side to side. The later items are better than most of the earlier items. The 79-80 Malibu, for example,is decent. The '71 Riviera will make you want to take up knitting.
