"Senna" coming to cable TV
ZTony8 replied to sjordan2's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
I think the only way I can get the Velocity Channel on Comcast is to subscribe to the HD service which for me is a waste because I don't have an HD television. -
Last Saturday I picked up some kits: a Tamiya Toyota Soarer and Nissan Skyline,a Revell 2013 Boss Mustang and '62 Corvette Gasser, the Moebius '56 Chrysler B300,a Heller Renault 5(le Car) Turbo rally car.I also bought three MCG photoetch sets, and some Alclad dark aluminum and Hot Metal violet paints. And for buying all of that,Jon at the Model Cave gave me a T-shirt.

No plastic 2014 Stingray kits? Could it be?
ZTony8 replied to Len Geisler's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
No,Joe the floor isn't balsa anymore. In one of the articles I read it mentioned to what it was changed but I've forgotten what they're now using. -
No plastic 2014 Stingray kits? Could it be?
ZTony8 replied to Len Geisler's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Jeff-not all the body is carbon fiber. -
Strange-I went to the Round 2 site and saw no mention of the Garlits car.

You could build one box stock. Then use some of them for parts for other projects and then use the rest for practicing and/or advancing your modeling skills. If you mess them up,so what? You've got more available.Stick off beat bodies on the chassis to make phantom race cars(Rolls Royce,Lexus, or Mercedes S class on a Cup car chassis anyone?)

Models 30% Off at Michaels this week
ZTony8 replied to mikemodeler's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
The Michael's closest to me has a small and seemingly unchanging kit selection.I have all but a couple of their offerings in my stash. -
Ray-Revell has a '66 Impala hardtop available now. My haul from this weekend's D.A.A.M. show was the AMT Petty short track Dart, the Revell 90 Mustang LX,the custom '49 Olds, and the '70 Hemi 'Cuda, the Tamiya La Ferrari and it's photoetch set and a carbon fiber decal set for a Lotus 99T F-1 car.

Does anyone else find it ironic the real Corvettes are plastic but some of the toy cars are metal? -
It's not the cost, it's the value :)

Looking for bigger Torque thrust wheels
ZTony8 replied to Modelmikey's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
There are 19 and 23 inch Pegasus "T"s sets with two different heights of sidewall available. Unfortunately the two sizes of tire have different tread patterns so mixing the sidewall heights may not please you. -
Have you ever noticed ?
ZTony8 replied to Teddy J. Tannehill's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
It's the inventiveness and creativity of some of the builders here that I admire.Once in a great while I have an idea for a build but my ideas are nothing compared to many on here. -
I didn't have great luck putting TS-13 over Duplicolor. It didn't seem to have great gloss.Maybe it was just me or maybe there's some chemical incompatatbility(?). Testor One Coat(non one coat) clear is milder than TS-13 and doesn't seem to harm decals like TS-13 did.I never tried Testor clear over Duplicolor.

Re coat window on Tamiya spray?
ZTony8 replied to freakshow12's topic in Model Building Questions and Answers
The only concern with a recoat window when using Tamiya paint has been when their TS-13 clear was used over the color coat-it tended to crack if applied at the wrong time due to different cure rates from the color coats.Since TS-13 isn't available in the U.S.A. anymore this has ceased to be a concern unless someone has some left over cans of it. From personal experience with Tamiya paint I'll add that if another color coat is added a bit too soon it tends to kill the gloss a little bit.But that's fixable with polishing. -
I'm in the D.A.A.M. club and I'll be wearing my club shirt and/or hoodie.I'll have a table there so if anybody from the board attends the show stop by and introduce yourself. I may be away from the table at times because of show duties like judging but keep checking back. P.S.-the guy next to me will have a bunch of Studio 27 resin kits, detail parts, and decal sets so if you see that,I'm right there.

I'll add this thought-It's rare that well built or contest winning models end up being sold off. Those seem to be retained by their builders or their heirs. I recently did some reorganizing of my stash of my old built ups and separated out the ones that needed repair. My old builds are nowhere near being very good so I have no qualms about re-doing them.I ended up filling up a good size box with them. Those are added to the stash of old builds that I've gotten from a couple of collections that I've obtained in past years.
-
I've bought some old built ups that I won't ever alter and some that I will change . I bought an AMT '59 Buick in Hershey,Pa. during my last visit in 2001 to the big October swap meet. It came in the original box and still had a few unattached parts(it's one of those "let's glue on all the parts we can fit" models) and is unpainted. I'll never change this one- it's not a glue bomb and it's a window on old build styles. I've bought a few built ups from a builder here in my area that I would have no guilt about altering. It's not that most are done badly. Most are fine but could stand updating or polishing. There was one, however, that I definitely had to change. It's a '49 Mercury that's been chopped and had the hood pancaked along with some other changes. The bodywork and paint(solid black) was mostly fine except for the pancaked hood needing reshaping to fit and the tail light areas needing work, but the interior and chassis are a mess.It has no drive shaft, the springs were heated to drop the rear end,and the engine was completely wrong for a lead sled custom(it's a dual quad tunnel ram big block Chevy with a Lenco trans ).The interior was just kinda tossed together(I think the theory was that with the chopped top the inside wasn't too visible) so that's gotta go too.

Amt '66 Riviera: your input, please
ZTony8 replied to Ace-Garageguy's topic in Car Kit News & Reviews
Are the dimensions of the engine/trans in the newer Riviera kit "spot on"?The reason I ask is that the comparable engine in the older '66 Wildcat kit is of a much larger size. The Riviera version looks lost in the engine bay of the Wildcat. -
It occurs to me that if that Okulski fellow was half way paying attention he would have realized that the "cab" was a new Chevy SS, barely out for sale(or maybe not even out yet) when this thing was filmed and should have suspected something right away. I smell another setup.

All of the show tables are sold(well over 200) so it'll be another big show by the D.A.A.M. club(bigger than the Sylvania shows!). Bring some built models to enter in the Motor City Madness judged contest, too!

Nice job on an awful kit.
